  • class 86s sound a lot different to the class 87s

  • @TheNickymcallister No they don't, they have the same traction motors! (Its just that class 87s have their ones uprated to 5000HP).

  • @86501freightliner oh ok but thay still sound grate dont thay m8

  • @TheNickymcallister I think they sound brilliant!

  • I travel to Euston from New St regular and back in the 90s I'd always walk to the front of the train before I boarded to see wether it was an 86 or 87 and what the number was. Nowadays I just jump on and dont even bother looking.

  • Noisy buggers, weren't they?

  • I had no idea till I saw this incredible footage what a fantastic, scary and primitive atmosphere there is in the cab of a working electric loco. I'd always thought that the engines that replaced the class 40s and steam power were clinical, cosy and smooth by comparison. All those years watching 86s and I never knew about this. You are so conscious of electricity...sort of Frankenstein's castle feel. No wonder they say there is a health hazard to those who's houses back onto electric lines.

  • nice this is very good shame it isnt an anglia 86

  • Camera should be closer to the front ..

  • Great Video, 5 Stars! Check out my drivers eye view of the Bekonscot Model Railway!

  • very strange urban landscape here, you have to be optimistic to be able to work on that line without being depressed ! but a certain beauty of all the briges an tunnel one after the other, apparently without an end. Could be the set for a crime novel or film

  • sounds like a bleedin freezer

  • 83,s where better

  • @TheDawnHikari no they were not

  • all controlled by the good old fasioned tapchanger! Fantastic locos these were, i remember them running the London to norwich express on the great eastern mainline

  • Yes, the lovely electric sounds of an 86, and where better to enjoy them then through the deep cuttings of liverpool?

Wish I had been on it, 86s and 87s rock!

  • Listen to that

  • I always find it spooky coming in to lime street hugh high walls, tunnels under liverpool seems to go on and on.

  • Couldn't you have got the camera closer to the window?

  • Smashing up the tracks as she goes!

  • Wow! I enjoyed that.

  • Aaah, the whine of the fans, such a beautiful sound, I miss the 86s on the Norwich expresses.

  • look i loved things in the past' everything was interesting to look at' unlike the plastic world now' these were trains.

  • I would have loved to see this but me forgot it was running, grr. 5*

  • Fantastic! Brings back those childhood 'lecky' cabride memories, when drivers used to let you travel in the cab up the tunnels and back on to the stock. Pity it wasn't off Platform 7 though! Also, I loved the position of the camera, not the usual cab window view. Go to the top of the class! CHEERS! :-)

  • ahh the old whirrer,s better then these plastic pendelinos when trains where trains. R.I.P BRITISH RAIL

p.s my next door neighbour recons im sad for watching things like this im 42 is this true ?

  • Last person that said I was an anorak turned out to be a collector of Cabbage Patch Dolls! And they had also stalked Take That in their youth! Phil Q

  • no,just like reminising, nothing wrong with that,i do it on a regular basis, things were better in the past
