Our kitty has two ceramic dishes (food/water) never had any acne. But when we got her from the shelter, she had a lot of tiny scabs on her head and neck, with time I was able to brush them out. Now she has beautiful shiny fur, thanks to daily brushing, first she did not like it, now she come for her evening brushing and turns around to get it everywhere.

That one was on the cat's lip so eating may have been uncomfortable for him/her. Plus it was all over and done with in seconds.

I have two of my own cats and would never want to hurt them, but if one of them had a zit like this, I would do the same thing. It would have traumatized the cat to take it to the vet and then the vet would have done the same thing. It would have caused the cat more pain to numb the area, then to just pop the zit.
