  • yeah you rite jazzand. ...i remember many a night at the JCT those years, went to school nearby from 82-86, one of my professors Leonard Goines turned me on to the place..this brings back a ton of memories...jaki byard, tommy flanagan...james p floating through the air, the cookies and tea they used to serve...the posters on the wall and of course what an amazing experience it was to get to know Barry a bit...I wish I had kept up with him.

  • Barry Harris 82nd Birthday! Many thanks for everything he taught us all! I spent a lot of time at the Jazz Cultural Theatre from 1982-87 and this video brings back memories. Sitting a couple feet from Tommy Flanagan while he played a beautiful Strayhorn medley, Tommy and Barry playing amazing piano duets, Barry recording his album "For The Moment" there, or the night Art Blakey donated a set of drums to the Breakfast Jam. I'm so grateful for the times I got to sit in with so many jazz greats!

  • God Bless Dr. Harris!

  • Luminaries in Jazz, Art Literature etc would enter and play or hang out after their gigs. The menu was chicken waffles and coffee molded after the older uptown menus It was an incredible experience and time

  • This video is from Barry Harris' Jazz Cultural Theatre an incredible venue located in NY on 29th and 9th Ave during the 1980s. Lessons and incredible notable Jazz musicians performing on weekends and on Sunday morning a jam which started at 3am

and went to 8 or 9 called the Art Blakey Breakfast Jam. Art would start the session

KuniMikami on piano Yours truly on bass and then Craig Haynes (son of Roy Haynes) on drums

    would relieve Art.

  • Great video. What is this from and is there any more of it?
