The Shuttle is LONG overdue to be retired. We should have only had a demo flight. It was a very bad idea to use solid rocket fuel and has held the USA back. The $750 MILLION price tag per launch is absolutely ridiculous. Soyuz has had 1800+ launches to our 120+ launches with shuttle. If we go with falcon9 we can 15+ launches for the price of one shuttle. Thats 105 astronauts vs only 7 with Shuttle. NASA's Ares1 was the dumbest idea ever at 1billion plus per flight price tag.
