I just came across this, and wanted to see if it was as bad as I remember. The problem I had with this show, the pilot aired in the end of July of 1990. I left early the next morning for a field exercise (I was in the 82nd Airborne Division) and while we were in the field Saddam Hussein invaded Kuwait. So I went right from the field to Saudi Arabia. This was the LAST thing I saw on television. I went through Desert Storm with "it's more than just a mall" stuck in my head. The horror, the horror
@kyropter Thanks for posting this story! So funny that these songs were stuck in your head in Saudi Arabia! For me, it's the Donut Hole song I can't get out of my head.
I remember seeing this on CBS, nearly twenty years ago. Does anyone remember the failed pilot about the black family of witches and warlocks? It was kind of like a black twist on 'Sabrina The Teenage Witch'.
@NitekMuscle It was called "We're a Little Bit Strange", premiered in 1989, and also never got past the pilot episode. I've been looking everywhere for clips of it, but to no avail.
OMG! I've been looking for this show online for years! My VHS copy finally bit the dust. Couldn't remember the Plaza in the name and the darn search engines couldn't read my mind!!
Awesome cast and brilliant lyrics. Too bad it was ahead of it's time and CBS didn't realize it was a gem.
Glad you enjoyed it. I'm so happy I recorded this when it was on and saved it for so many years to share with others. It's hard to explain this show to anyone without actually showing them.
Mark Mueller: has had three Billboard Top Ten singles on the Hot 100 chart (Jennifer Paige's "Crush" (#3); Amy Grant's "That's What Love Is For" (#7); and Heart's "Nothin' At All" (#10). I Am Blessed, Ducktales theme, Chip and Dales theme, many pop / r&b songs.
Nick Castle: Wrote / directed The Boy Who Could Fly, Dennis the Menace, Major Payne, Mr. Wrong, Wrote August Rush, Tap, Escape from New York.
I just realized (after watching this show a couple times--don't judge me, I like Terrence Mann) that the brothers' names are Ira and George, like the Gershwins. :)
I just happened to have the TV on when this aired its one and only time and loved it! I scoured the TV listings all that fall trying to figure out when it was on. Alas it was not meant to be.
This was CBS's entry into the musical show sweepstakes. NBC had "Hull High" set in a High School and ABC had the infamous "Cop Rock", neither lasting longer than a season.
And 1990 Southern California must have been a really safe place if she let her six-year-old (btw, Allison looks ADORABLE) run around outside by herself! Those danceoff thugs look tough! Hangin' tough! (groan)

Thank you so much for posting this! My sister and I had it on VHS for years and it no longer works. I was amazed that I still know every word!

@seatspud That's It! It featured Martin Lawrence and was one of NBC's midseason misfires.

Yeah Many inside jokes.
Groundbreaking in a few ways;
IT WAS BEFORE Cop Rock, Hull High, etc.
the vocals were ALL performed live on set ( outdoors).
It had so little dialog that it was not understood by the network. Imagine all the songs they would have to write if it got picked up...
FIlmed at Vineland and Magnolia, if my memory is correct. across from Circus Liquors.
Composers Craig Safan : Last Starfighter, Stand and Deliver, Cheers, Life Goes On, Mr. Wrong, Major Payne.

On a side note, the creators of "Hull High" are the same ones that are responsible for "High School Musical" movies.

Dude! I remember seeing this that one and only time it aired (and I missed the first 5 minutes while surfing channels).
Is there any way I can get a copy of this! I STILL remember the "donut hole" song VIVIDLY after all these years!
