We see comments about the difference between what alcohol does to people compared to pot. Here's something I can tell you from experience. The best passengers to have in your taxi are pot-heads. I noticed the date of this is the date I was sentenced in Utah for Possesion of a gram of Marijuana. Just the possession of it is costing me around $2000 dollars. $635 for the initial fine, $420 cost for being on probation for a year, $320 for 16 weeks of drug/alcohol classes, $75 dollars for a meeting with a counselor to assign to classes, $15 for every single drug test I have to take, and probably other expenses they haven't told me about. Not exactly the honest way to bring in pot revenue....

The current way the government deals with marijuana only prolongs the problem. If profit is to be made a black market will always exist. It is high time Americans stood up for freedom and demanded these repressive marijuana laws be changed, ending decades of unjust persecution. I noticed the date of this is the date I was sentenced in Utah for Possesion of a gram of Marijuana. Just the possession of it is costing me around $2000 dollars. $635 for the initial fine, $420 cost for being on probation for a year, $320 for 16 weeks of drug/alcohol classes, $75 dollars for a meeting with a counselor to assign to classes, $15 for every single drug test I have to take, and probably other expenses they haven't told me about. Not exactly the honest way to bring in pot revenue....

All the opponents' arguments are moot... people who call it a gateway drug are citing that it leads to the use of other dangerous and (rightfully) illegal substances... that's true, in teens, but if it weren't illegal, it wouldn't be grouped in the minds of teens with those other substances and therefore would not lead to that experimentation. Its a fact that alcohol and tobacco have killed millions of people. Its also a fact that Marijuana hasn't killed anybody. WHY IS IT ILLEGAL?
Time to wake up, the economy is shaky at best and we are turning down the billions that would come from taxing Marijuana. Not to mention the time and money saved from having to enforce the law against it.
To the antidrug folks out there barking about how its bad for you: You drink coffee or soda? Because caffeine has killed people before.

I'm for legalization but there is one thing that everyone seems to be overlooking. As we know it's a multi billion dollar industry , so what happens to the people that rely on that industry once legalization has passed ? Do they all get a layoff sip so they can collect U.I. ? Welfare ? What you gonna do with millions of people that suddenly are without a job that rely on selling marijuana ?

I hope this passes. God put that plant on this planet. I am an alcholic that is forced to drink but I drug of choice is marijuana. If I could buy marijuana in the stores, I know that I would not have a drinking problem anymore. I have never in my life seen a plant that has more uses. It can and will bring are country out of dept. or at the least it will help us out more then any other program out there, to bring us out of this downward spiral that I see are economy is doing

We have crapy soviet style liquor stores though. I would support it if they wopuld have allowed for the free market to take over the liquor stores. But it has been completely state controlled for 70 years since prohibition ended. We pay double the cost for booze here, compared to states like California. Get rid of the state liquor stores and let the free market sale both.
