Buying tanchos at small sizes are always risky as their tancho spots are still unstable. There are many incidences of the tancho spot disappearing altogether, leaving the owner with a shiromuji. A tancho showa may be a better bet as you'd still be left with a decent shiro utsuri if the tancho spot disappears altogether. Buying a tancho at nisai is a much better bet.
Looks like my cousin will have to inject his koi interparitoneally with enrofolxacin to fight a nasty bactieral infection. Im trying to get a better idea of how its done.
Hi you know the breed kohaku, i would like 2 get one for my koi pond, were can i get one from, is there like a koi place you know that would sell them. I have 13 koi in total but not sure what breed they are, all differnt but some same. Thank u.
Hi. I bought the ginrin tancho 3 years ago at nisai 50cm. She is 70cm now and almost 5 years old. She still has pop-eye and she gulps air at the surface.....but she is still alive and eats well. :-)
wow... damn good video Paul. so scary... esp when your tancho moved with the needle sticking in it. by any chance, are you a part time surgeon? you are pro bro:-)
Haha, IKK. Not a doctor at all! As a matter of fact, I was just videoing, not injecting. Leave that to the experienced professionals. PM me on Malaysian board if you wanna know who..
Had already tried 0.3% salt treatment, in case it was a simple case of osmotic imbalance, but it did not help at all. This tancho has a decent appetite but it isn't necessarily the biggest eater in my pond. None of my other koi have "pop eyes". I feed only moderately, between 0.5% and 0.8% of body weight during the "growth months" (we have eternal summer where I live).
My ginrin tancho kohaku has "pop-eye" syndrome. Unlikely dropsy since her scales are normal (no pineconing). Some other internal problem. Nika Transmore was used to sedate the fish. Takes 5-10 minutes before the koi is sedated enough for the injection to be done. Injected 1ml (1cc) of Ciprobay into the muscle under EACH of her pectoral fins. Ciprobay is a wide-spectrum antibiotic recommended by Kentaro Sakai. The koi was swimming normally about 10 minutes after being released back into the pond.
nice work.

You would be able to get a lot of help from the many koi forums around. Koiphen would be good for you..
