I have watched this video so many times this week. I've been on a major Oysterhead kick, and since they only made one album, it is pretty easy to listen to the same stuff over and over. Love it.
this is awesome but trey could have better tone, the guitar's sick, but it doesn't sound like he's using his tube screamers here and he definitely should be! awesome though
The trifecta - the perfect three, Stu, Les, and Trey. Les - a known music god. Trey - a well trained musical genius. Stuart Copeland - Why didn't Sting set you free? In Quake terms... Godlike!!! I wonder what this would look like with Rick Wakeman on keyboards....
I love how the music starts hitting you, and suddenly there's this huge breakdown and Stewart Copeland makes the beat his bitch. I absolutely love this.
man oysterhead needs to make a new album. I love the grand pecking order. I can honestly say that there is not one bad song on there. they are all gems
fursciante sucks at guitar too. and les claypool heads for that voice because he likes to be wierd. know your shit dude.
have you ever seen frusciante try and jam? its fucking pathetic. he is okay when it come to playing shit like it is, but its a joke when he tries to improvise
@duduledhyrule the quirkiness of claypool's voice is what makes it amazing. i mean, he's not exactly singing love ballads. would you want to hear barbara streisand singing about dead puppies? also, i think hendrix's voice is right where it should be. subtle, lyrically complimentary and not obtrusive in a way that takes away from the beauty of the guitar.
Dudes, Trey's guitar is ridiculous. His playing back then wasn't too shabby either. What an interesting period in rock history - that a group like Oysterhead found success, let alone existence, speaks to the weirdness of the times.
@MrStrangeSensation This was probably ripped from the HBO special about the band that came out not too long after the release of the album. I, too, have been waiting for an Oysterhead DVD.... So I'll be back on to let you know when I find one... But don't kill yourself over it.... because there ain't no cure for suicide...
WTF? HOW IS THIS NOT ON DVD!?!?! They obviously had professional cameras covering the show., so why not dammit?! I love Oysterhead so much, I think this was easily Claypool's best project, possibly better than Primus (it's close).
I love Les and have seen him and all the different incarnations of his bands since 92 but there are plenty that are/were better than him - Allen Woody, Alphonso Johnson, Marcus Miller, Jaco Pastorius, etc.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Les Claypool is annoying and over-rated. His bass playing is souless, he dresses like a hobo, and his nasally-a** voice is indecipherable. On the other hand, Copeland and Anastasia was great musical union, but Les doesn't belong with them. There's no chemistry. Another bassist, a groovier, more soulful bassist really would've kicked the music into high gear, and taken it to more melodic places.
Agreed. It would be hard to argue against The Trio of Doom tho (Jaco Pastorius, John McLaughlin, Tony Williams - each of them is probably better at their respective instruments than Oysterhead but they are jazz/fusion players not rock musicians). Nonetheless, this band blows my mind every time I listen to them live. Trey's playing hear is just fucking absurd.
I love Stuart, but Tony Williams who started at the age of 17 with the second Miles Davis quintet is an absolute beast of a drummer. One of the best ever,.
@nasdan5000 custom built, the deer antler sticking out of it is actually a theremin, which if u dont know what a theremin is, it's a musical instrument in it's self, look it up.
@axwell21 without question. i heard someone on the radio the other day refer to the black eyed peas as a supergroup. i can't really explain the feeling i had. it was something like intense hatred, but i was laughing my ass off at the same time.
