The DVD has been out for years. Its high quality--great resolution and sound.
The idea was played around with a bit before this film (see The Duplicates episode of Tales of Tomorrow), and, in various forms after (usually in those cases, appealing to the idea of alternate Universes or timelines). It would be nice to see a remake. "Another Earth" borrows some elements but is not a remake.
Music was by Gerry Anderson's typical composer of that period (Gray?)
You seem to know a little bit about these kind of movies. There is a "parallel Earth" movie or episode & I can't remember the name. I only remember part of it. When the guy is on the new planet, he is in a hospital, but he is starving because his body can't metabolize the parallels nutrients. I remember that doctors/scientists had to make the food special & it costing them something like $10,000 a day to feed him? I'm pretty sure it was in B&W & almost positive it's NOT a Twilight Zone ep.
I saw this a long time ago, as a kid, and then again just recently re-watched the dvd. It was an interesting idea, but like a lot of Space: 1999 plots, highly unlikely. Also, I think the ending was pretty weak--they should have had a more dramatic, action-oriented resolution.
This is actually a very good film with high production values, an interesting plot and a solid cast, capped off with impressive effects for the period it was made. But with a trailer which gives away the twist and a movie poster which totally fails to convey how spectacular the effects will be, I feel the distributors failed the film producers. It should've been a big hit. A pity. When's the DVD coming out?
The weirdest thing.. I dreamt this the other night but never heard of this film until my dad told me about it after me telling him about the dream I had.... I just watched this movie and without the cheesy-side of it.. its pretty much the concept of what my dream was about. Fascinating.
@royalcourtier Just about every original film title and book title they change for some reason? Hence the film: "Night of The Demon" to "The Demon". They seem to change a title just for the sake of change. America has always been a childish nation in many ways.
@royalcourtier LOL! Everyone knows what a Doppelganger is. Renaming titles for other country's is common. Judging from ignorance is probably the worst problem in the world. Be careful who you think your smarter than.
its now out on dvd!...hunt down moon zero two (catherine schell ...hammer sf 1969)...2001 a space odyssey 1968 (second half of movie is excellent!)...silent running (bruce dern 1972)...are all on dvd and excellent astronaut movies!
One of my favorites too, very underrated.I find it's not how good a movie is it's the amount of advertising and hoopla a studio puts into it that determins whether a film is a box office hit.I love the design of the Dove to this day.
piece of crap trailer. idiots made it.

Pity it was renamed for American audiences. But then Americans wouldn't know what a doppelganger is.
Anyone ever counted how many films titles had to be renamed for simple Americans?

Wow, how do they manage to create a bad misleading trailer? This movie is much more amazing and deep than it seems in the trailer.

Called 'Doppelganger' in the UK. That's German for 'double'. Not a bad film, years since it's been on though.

This would be the best pick for an updated movie using todays technology in movie making!

As was the case with other Gerry Anderson productions, this movie had cool spacecraft crashes and explosions in miniature.
