  • don't go twards the light

  • I've been to a place like this. Except this dead mall (which only has one open floor left) had muzak piped in to one of the *abandoned* floors, which is only accessible by dodging the police tape in the parking lot and walking up a ramp outside. (Yeah, this place was put together strangely.)

  • What is eery is that the music is James Ingram who is a now famous musician/vocalist who grew up in Akron....

  • oh my word, the music is soooo creepy. like I'm not sure I'd be able to walk through there like that with that music playing. ::shivers::

  • Almost what you could imagine a mall to look like after all the people vaporize on 12/12/12. Lol...

  • Why in the hell is the music still broadcasting over the malls intercom?

  • The music in an abandoned mall is creepy.

  • This is very sad because I remember when this mall was really a busy and nice mall. I dont think this mall can ever be brought back to life.Very sad indeed!

  • Sad to see such a nice mall go out.I was there many times over the years.

  • This mall reminds me of South Coast Plaza in Calif.( near Orange ).

  • This is in Akron, Ohio.

  • i roamed rolling acres in sept 08 after making a purchase at sears.. it was very erie strolling around with no one in site and the depressing 80s music playing.. it brought a tear to my eye... my how times have changed

  • Exactly blvdcruiser. I had the same feeling. I hadn't been there since the late 80's when I was a kid. Had a lot of flashbacks walking around... very weird and depressing feeling. That entire area was so alive back then. Rolling Acres was THE mall to go to.

  • Why did this have to die? This was one of the best Malls in the Cleveland/Akron Area. I still love the Jc Penny outlet their and I miss the Macys they had great deals.

  • This place was also a BIG part of my life in my teenage years. But after the Malcolm X movie was played, all hell broke loose and there was rioting, ever since that day that mall was doooomed. Then there was a few people robbed and then the rumors started. People were scared and stopped going! Criminals started coming along with the serious crime, and well, that was that! Thanks Guys for putting another good thing out of business.

    Yours truly,

    Tony

  • Excellent post broker3460. Sounds like you're a little older than me, so your memory is clearer than mine. I always remembered why my mom stopped dragging me and my sister to Rolling Acres because of the crime starting, but now that you mention it, I had totally forgot about the Malcolm X movie incident. Thank you.

  • I moved from Ohio in 1993 and never heard of the riot. But the irony of it all is that that was NOT the message of the movie. I tell you, immature minds. The sad thing is that things aren't really changing much.

  • That's just to sad to watch. And the music is still playing that's kinda creepy with no one around to hear it

  • I thought it was kind of odd they pay for Muzak but not lights...

  • why is the music even playing?? Doesn't JCPenny have their own system?

  • Dang! I remeber in th 90s when I was younger the mall was still booming like the 80s. In fact it was always as busy as Chapel Hill Mall still is today. I think it was around late 2004 MANY stores all started closing. That's where it all went downhill.

  • Was this filmed before the mall lost power?
