  • This is why the Mac Pro quad kicks but for future upgrades .:) + exchange tray to 12core + CPUs .FTW:)))))))))))))))))

  • Great video!!!!! Question where did you get the hex key set, and what brand are they?

  • @hmm2681 i got them at BMR, the brand is called Master.

  • Can you please post a link to the processor that u used.... Also do u know if u can upgrade to a 6 core....

  • @lordtrini EBAY the cpu. yes you can upgrade to a 6 core cpu i did it to mine!

but you have to upgrade you EFI (bios) to install the 6 core cpu. IF YOU DO NOT UPGRADE you EFI aka bios IT WILL NOT WORK!!! thankks

  • Nice vid. The motherboard tray makes it so easy to replace.

  • why dont you just overclock w3520 to 3.2ghz ?

  • @UunonMopo i guess you dont know about MAC computers Because you can't overclock a cpu in a mac, there is NO BIOS on apple computers.

  • @g4sean yeah because mac suck, hackingtosh FTW

  • @UunonMopo fuck yeah

  • finally, someone who actually spreads thermal compound like me!

  • @qlplayer952 LOL thanks!!!

  • Neat job g4sean.

Any ideas about upgrading mac pro mid 2010?

I plan replace two 2.4GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon with two 2.93GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon.

    is there any possibility? conflict?

  • Thanks oyoxdesign, putting two 2.93GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon. would give you a Good CPU BOOST!! the upgrade will work fine for you! no conflict But the new cpu's that you need are the x5670 are going to cost you on ebay 1800$-2500$ Only do this if your applecare is over!

    Good luck.

  • @g4sean Be sure to invest in some good quality thermal paste too, and to clean off the old stuff with something like surgical spirits so it's as clean as can be to ensure it gets the best possible coverage! Those CPU's will run super hot under heavy loads! Check your temps for a few weeks afterwards (usually higher to begin with as the paste settles in) to see how they cope.

  • @TalesOfWar i bought some thermal paste at like 5$ did the job!

The new cpu Does not run super hot on heavy loads Temps around 60C max when im incoding HD video to encore. when i had my w3520 2.66ghz the temps would be around 80-90C, Not anymore! 2 days ago i removed the w3565 and replace it with a 6 core w3680 and temps are still around 60C when the computer is incoding video with ALL 6 cores running to the max.

  • you can upgrade the cpu with any intel cpu W35xx, i got the w3565 on ebay for like 350$.

i had put toomuch thermal paste! lol dont put much at all!!!

also i have fixed the problem with the about this mac showing the cpu as 3.19ghz i used Mac Pro Firmware Upgrade Utility tool that i found over the net

to upgrade your mac pro 2009 to 2010 firmware, by doing this my cpu in my about this mac is now showing 3.2ghz.

AND ALSO upgrading firmware to mac pro 2010 you can buy a 6 core cpu

  • you can put the w3680 in your mac pro 2009! you can only put the w3680 6 core cpu if you upgrade your mac pro 2009 Firmware to mac pro 2010 Firmware.

    thanks

    hope it helps!!!

  • I plan on doing this to my 2009 Mac Pro just have two questions...how much was the processor and was that enough thermal paste?
