  • one of my favorite toons to watch on saturday morning with my breakfast when i was a kid now am 43 and still my favorite

  • thundarr was a bad ass i miss this. nowadays cartoons are gay and weak

  • originally it was Thundarr the Kardashian BUT she divorced him.

  • Does else anybody consider his sword spinning a bit gay?

  • @GrandLordBaradar lmao no but now that you mention it, i cant stop laughing. they should mention that on family guy, they should do this intro but right after he does the spinning, ariel cuts in: "wait! stop it! stop it!!!! how the f*ck are they supposed to take us seriously with your gay sword spinning?!!!!" lmao

  • @prime513 Yeah he almost spins like Linda Carter on Wonder WOman lol

  • So all of this happened 18 years ago? Damn somehow I missed it...:/

  • Please, someone tell me where can i watch these online, i can't seem to find them anywhere!

  • holy crap, I had no idea this was the premise for this cartoon. wow.

  • It's 2012 and the Moon is in one piece. It took the Moon just 18 years to heal. :)

  • 0:41 That's one helluva punch-buggy, to last through the destruction of civilization and then another 2000 years.

  • @megarouge2001 LOL, yeah German engineering, built to last.

  • Part Conan, part He-Man and part Star Wars.

Yes, I know this predates He-Man, but I can't help seeing how similar they are.

  • I don't recall a comet hitting the moon and destroying the Earth's ozone layer in 1994?

  • @Volumesofdoom , maybe because the guy said it was a Runaway Planet. Not a Comet.

  • Fabulous 'sun sword.' Totally not a light saber. Totally.

  • This was a good cartoon

  • So, this is where Michael Bay gets his apocolyptic movie ideas from.

  • It's such a shame kids today have no clue how amazing Saturday morning cartoons used to be.

  • @philaman1972 shame on disney. and nicktoons...and whatever homo is getting funds for anything but GARGOYLES (1994 ).....hehehehe

  • 1994 was so far away then, and is so far away now !

  • I remember as a kid how scarred I was that I wouldn't graduate from HS because of a strange run away planet. Then last week I freaked out when I learned that NASA actually discovered strange runaway planets.

  • This shows basic scenario is kind of similar to that of Ralph Bakshi's Wizards .

  • lmao

  • 1994! Haahahahahahha!

  • @UpRoaryus Sadly that's where this show shows it's age. The same can be said for Back to the fututre

  • @MrMegas2 Sadder still... that's where it shows MY age! =S I remember this so clearly... can hear the voice now in my head from watching this show when I grew up: "Ariel, Oookla! RIDE!"

  • this happened last night

  • That big planet or asteroid is coming thru on November 8th between the moon and earth.

  • It's sad that you wouldn't see a cartoon like this developed these days. ohhh the imagery is too violent!! it would be too scarey for our kids.... we need something that teaches them about self esteem and feeling good... bahhhhhh!

  • heh i just came to see it because it was embed on kotaku

  • Best cartoon ever created and the idiots only make 21 episodes.

  • Glad that this is now available for everybody to watch on DVD.

  • Thundarr the Barbarian has been listening to Harold Camping

  • Childhood cartoon right there..

  • when i was young ....

  • I wonder who will win. Thundarr, Galtar or Blackstar?

  • @blastmetamorph Korgoth wins

  • UKLA is da best

  • I think when everything blows over in 2013 there will be mockers just like Jesus predicted, and then the end will come when everyone is dying of laughter. Remember Y2K?

  • Waiting for Family Guy to do a pardoy of this like Super Friends

  • ye should check out the magic roundabout, now that was a show on crack

  • 0:09 Love it!!! Even in 1980 they knew about Planet X....they might as well be talking about 12-21-2012

  • Thanks for uploading.

I was heartbroken as a boy when they cancelled it. Very atmospheric and reminds me of the beach for some reason.

The last time I saw this show on television, the set was 13 inches and the picture wasn't always clear, but dangit I liked it. Those were the days.

  • WAS THE SHIT! HOPE THEY REMAKE THIS FOR HDTV

  • Probably some whacko nut case was predicting the world coming to the end in 1994.

  • my favorite cartoon

  • I love how the announcer enunciates both r's in Thundarr.

  • sweeet show.

  • I used to like the "Gemini" character on this show. The man who changed his face around. lol. Some people can't do that literally-but definitely can figuratively.

  • is this a rip off of He-Man?

  • @MsOneiroi77 This was released in 1980. He-Man was released in 1983.

  • OMG, I had forgotten about his Chewbacca friend. =) Used to watch this on Cartoon Network every afternoon.

  • When I was younger, I always got scared whenever I saw the moon get destroyed by the comet .

Good to know that fear is still there D:

  • Adding a typical fantasy barbarian story to a post-apocalyptic sci-fi setting?

    Genius.

  • narrated by Dick Tufeld, one of the great "smiling" voices, along with Beau Weaver and Joe Cipriano

  • So, we basically have Luke Skywalker, princess Leia and Chewie in this cartoon

  • Apparently the chassis of a VW Beetle can go largely unweathered for 2000 years.

  • wise papa smurf corrupted by his own power, can no leader go untainted?

  • guess what its 2011 and nothing came! (:D

  • the year is 2011, when from outer space comes a comet named Elenin..

  • ukla = wookie clone

Thandarr = a kind of Conan with Luke Skywalker's light sabre

  • lol I remember an episode when Thundarr went back in time, (like to 1980 I guess) and he couldn't open a regular door and he was like "DEMON DOGS!" I half died!

  • @HuffytheMagicDragon

    Don't forget "LORDS of LIGHT!!"

  • @MrBlackSW he's so antiquated lol

  • @MrBlackSW lol now means LORDS OF LIGHT!

  • I hope I wont live long enough to .... hey this happened in 1994!

  • I graduated from Highschool in 1994 and no cataclysmic destruction! LOL!

  • eu tenho certeza que a Era da escrotidão vai ser assim!

  • This has actually happened, we just haven't noticed yet.

  • even when i was little i remember noticing that planet took the earth's atmosphere with it- figured that couldn't be a good thing

  • "..and his fabulous sun sword"

    "fabulous sun sword"

    "FABULOUS"

no sword should ever be called fabulous...

  • @Rookiewill o my god you guys! this sword is fabulous, it goes great with my purse.

  • @MrBrent123t

    NO!

Its either awesome, badical, righteous or cool.

    NOT FABULOUS! >:(

    lol

  • The year was 1994. From out of space comes....grunge?

  • Fabulous sun sword, oh yeah XD

  • JUUUSSST awesome

  • I am still watching this once in a while on the boomerang.

  • elenin, 2011. moon split in 2. earths magnetosphere pulled away.

  • You realise this was made in 1980, right? Didn't think so.

  • like what they did with thundercats i wouldn't mind seeing them do a reboot of this series.

  • 1994?

    They should have said

    late 2011

  • @MrDanielmichaels idiot... *facepalm

  • @MrDanielmichaels Dude, according to the original STAR TREK by like 1996 we would have had a 3rd world war, and/or a eugenics war, and have superhumans like "KAHHHHHHHHHNNNNNNNNNN"!!!!! running around. People just didnt think that far ahead back then. Who knew we would even still be watching this stuff like 30 years later and going, wtf? were they on crack? I mean who could have imagined YOUTUBE back then?

  • Wait...didn't a comet hit Jupiter in 1994? I think that one was for us and we got saved by some misterious force. Now we'll never know what it is to live in a earth with no ozone layer.

  • lol XD i was born in 1994 ...great show though

  • The animation was amazing for the time, later came HE-MAN a complete JOKE in comparison to this.

  • @twasbrillig33 na he man had better animation

  • @twasbrillig33 I you want amazing animation you should watch Disney cartoons from the 30's and 40's.

  • unleashing cosmic DESTRUCTION!! One of my favorite cartoons - thank you for posting this.

  • Thundar Trivia: A lot of people don't know this but, I Thundar-ed in my pants when I saw this. You're welcome, Chair.

  • Not 1994..........try 2012............lol

  • Thundarr! And his Wang of Light!

  • ookla reminds me of chewie from star wars.

  • Comment removed

  • lol ooklah the moc

  • thumbs up if you came because of Gundarr the barbarian series.

  • Was made in 80,when all they knew is ,it was there. They didn't start learning it's trajectory and speed until 83 when they launched IRIS, so 94 was speculation.IMO,a warning.Thousands of 35ish Americans were implanted with an idea when we were kids,to ready us for what's to come.Wasn't FEMA started in 84?

  • Yep, 1994 was a tough year alright...

  • Savagery, Super Science and Sorcerery.

Yep, sounds like the ideal environment for the NWO/illuminate.

  • Freaking Awesome!

  • a little bit racist how everybody in cartoons back then was white...

  • @BigRedChester - DUDE - That is not racism. Are freaking kidding me right now? Racism is when you judge someone on the color of their SKIN ONLY. I can't believe how stupid some people are. TURN OFF YOUR DAMN TV IDIOT.

  • @BigRedChester Princess Ariel was part Chinese. Ukla was of course a Mok, and there were a variety of sentient creatures that were not white.

  • @BigRedChester I hate to break it to ya but if it aint white it aint right!!LMAO

  • @balser77 Right On Cracker!!!

  • @BigRedChester lol no im to young to have been a cracker!!!!

  • @BigRedChester The princess looks a bit latina.

  • It's a little-known fact that Brother Camping was a consultant on the timeline this show used...

  • In the year 1994, Al Gore invents the internet....and the Earth loses its ozone layer or something...

  • can u please upload a whole episode of thundarr?

  • Ok, why wasnt i told the world ended 17 years ago?! I am seriously ill-prepared!

  • Demon dogs!

  • and..."Lords of Light!"

  • Love your channel , looks great !

  • family guy

  • Conan and Chewbacca. Who'd have thunk it.

  • I love this cartoon! Thanks for posting!

  • Comet Elenin, anyone? If that doesn't make the hair on the back of your neck stand up, nothing will.....LOL! :)

  • @VonHelton thats the first thing that i thought of.

  • TV execs; "I can't come up with anything original, can you? Hey, what if we gave HeMan one of those lightsaber things?"

    "and a wookie!"

  • Gemini has that unmistakable Jack Kirby brow also found in Darkseid and The Thing. Kirby is the man.

  • Who else remembers this? however you do realize that the main characters are all ripoffs :( HeMan, ChewBacca & Wonder Woman...Never missed an episode though XD

  • @Akutsuki1985 THIS CARTOON GIVES ME PSYCHIC POWERS! YOUR NAME IS AARGGH ANTHONY BORDE

  • Holy Herculoids, it's just as godawful as I remember it...

  • @TheOriginalDasher In the 80's sure, but if we compare it to those shows that we watch today it starts to look good. Now thats sad.

  • THEY KNEW BACK THEN.OH FUCK...

  • I always wondered what would happen if the atmosphere was swept off the planet...But wait...how is anything even alive? And if everything was wiped out...How did hundreds of new species come into existence in just 2000 years?

  • This is the same future Adventure Time lives in

  • @kingman1245 Yo that's funny I thought the same thing

  • Thundarr the Barbarian: A Sword and Sorcery/scifi series with interesting ideeas, characters, and stories.

  • Ookla is so cool, but I always wondered if his face is robotic or just weird looking

  • Haha! Ookla was in south park imagination land

  • The voice in this intro sounds just like the voice used for the intro of Spiderman & his amazing friends. And if I'm not mistaken the scene at 0:16 of this intro is used in said spiderman intro.

  • This show was great. 1 of my fav cartoons ever.

  • chewbacca found a job :D

  • And his fabulous sunsword!

    ...Fabulous?

  • @Shadowgandor awesome comment, made me lol. The legit lol, not the "non-laughing lol."

  • The Year 19 fuck'n 90.fuck'n 4. I knew that year was a bad one

  • "Lords of Light!!!"

  • @D1noG INSIDE KNOWLEDGE LIKE THIS WAS AROUND THEN,AND WHO OWNS ABC AND CBS.I BET THE GUYS WHO DID THIS CARTOON ARE MASONS AT SAME LODGE AS CBS EYEBALL BIGWIGS.

  • The year was 1994. From out of space comes...nothing.

  • @pyrogyra72 cartoon network had this on when it started and the december 31 1994 they had shown it for the last time. but kept pot smokers scooby and shaggy on hehe

  • Anyone else burst out laughing when the voice over dude says 'In the year 1994'...?

  • @miguelthedog Yeah, that was only 14 years into the future from when Thundarr originally aired.

  • @landrykkb

Yep. Can not believe just how accurate this version of the future was.

  • @miguelthedog the year is 2011 /watch?v=9MJJN8Gq6hw&list=FL9TnDgO1l2ms&index=7

  • @miguelthedog you're a kid, aren't you? prolly are. but thank you for pointing out that this cartoon's prediction didn't come true. but you also established that any such claim from any such movie is equally absurd. enjoy your movies, having already deemed them silly.

  • @LamonicBomb

you're an idiot aren't you? probably are. but thank you for pointing out that you have no sense of humour and take everything on face value and being a cry baby.

  • @miguelthedog lol right the asteroid stole the atmosphere

  • My take is that this show was canceled because it was too dark. It was scrapped but part of the investment was recouped when they sold the rights to Lou Cheimer who turned it into HeMan.

  • Wow, the Starwars influence is heavy in this. Not surprising since the movie came out like 3 years prior.

  • This on on DVD now :D

  • I remember 1994, an awful year, but humanity prevailed.

  • One of my all time favorite cartoons!

  • "THUNDARR,THE BARBARIAN" was the ultimate action-adventure cartoon show!

certainly a serious milestone for Ruby-Spears,who did this for ABC in 1980,,and

rerunned on NBC's 1983-84 season, in many respects,it had simularites to "THE

HERCULIODS"-and not suprising.since Joe Ruby and Ken Spears worked on that

series for Hanna-Barbera in 1967. but "THUNDARR" was quite an accomplishment-

since Doug Wildey,Jack Kirby and a few others, helped design the charecters.

  • The sword makes nice sounds. :)

  • This show was so corny, but so good at the same time. Has anyone played Goblinoid Games Mutant Future RPG? It's a lot like this show, only in pnprpg form.

  • Runaway planet? maybe nibiru/elenin/x.

  • This Cartoon Almost Predicted the Future. Shoemaker-Levy Anyone?

  • These were great! It's like Conan in a Gamma World setting. The voice work for these was well done. The wizards, Octagon, Gemini and the others were great and the animation has more "texture" then modern animation which is too smooth. Rock on Hanna Barbera!

  • and his fabulous sun sword... ha

  • they should totally do a 3D remake of this...Lucas, hello?

  • I don't know what was creepier, the fact that the Moon had been ripped apart and was still in orbit or that the 2 faced wizard (Gemini) had Fred Flintstone's voice. This was damn good cartoon and still stands up today.

  • And his FAAAAABULOUS SWORD!

  • And is FAAAAABULOUS SWORD!

  • Princess Ariel was so hot!

  • He he has a lightsaber!

  • Was Ookla a Chewbacca ripoff? Also, I read somewhere that Ookla was named after UCLA. I think one of the creators was an alumni of UCLA.

  • @sportyguyusa Chewbacca Ripp off, no, but his name was indeed a reference to UCLA.
