My take is that this show was canceled because it was too dark. It was scrapped but part of the investment was recouped when they sold the rights to Lou Cheimer who turned it into HeMan.

"THUNDARR,THE BARBARIAN" was the ultimate action-adventure cartoon show!

certainly a serious milestone for Ruby-Spears,who did this for ABC in 1980,,and

rerunned on NBC's 1983-84 season, in many respects,it had simularites to "THE

HERCULIODS"-and not suprising.since Joe Ruby and Ken Spears worked on that

series for Hanna-Barbera in 1967. but "THUNDARR" was quite an accomplishment-

since Doug Wildey,Jack Kirby and a few others,helped design the charecters.

These were great! It's like Conan in a Gamma World setting. The voice work for these was well done. The wizards, Octagon, Gemini and the others were great and the animation has more "texture" then modern animation which is too smooth. Rock on Hanna Barbera!
