Reminds me of the Larks' Tongues in Aspic album cover.
Makes me kind of annoyed that I've never heard about this band before, because they're nothing short of amazing, and I'm gonna make room for a heavy listening session as soon as i can.
Awesome symphonic prog not watered down neo-prog like so many other Swedish prog bands.I love the lights and darks and the extreme tempo changes while still being lovely music like symphonic prog should be.
@RawekVamp yes, even i see king crimson . Btw the other day some guy was talking about some new band who is considered a fuse of crimson and tool.....i forgot the name. do you happen to have any idea?
Nothing short of brillaint! These guys were kids when they did this. Definitely in my all time favorite stack! I was grateful to see them at ProgFest twice in LA in the 90s.
i`m a bloody prog-fan, so ashamed that did not know them up to now... great music, of course i think more close to camel rather than genesis, de facto, blend of Camel+more classical music elements... awesome...
I've heard tell that their live performance in one of the Progfests was absolutely mindblowing. They were some random foreign band nobody had heard of, as most audience members were there for more popular bands like IQ, and yet by the time they finished they had converted practically the entire audience into fans. I wish I was born earlier just so I could experience it.
its just so unpredictable like humans behaviors.... this track makes me think of life and all the moments, crazy, happy, sad, serious, etc.. that life its made of. this track its superior and i dedicate it to my soulmate.
These guys really did the best approximation of their 70s symphonic-prog heroes. One of the best post-70s prog efforts, actually. What a great cover, too!
I remember the first time I listened to this song, it took my breath away & I couldn't speak for a long time. The only piece of art ever did the same effect was the first The Matrix movie years later.
So what The Matrix is for cinema, Hybris is the same for popular music. It changes the perception.
I cannot understand him. Symphonic progessive rock albums like this one or Foxtrot from Genesis belong to my all time favourites.
Maybe he is not so busy with music in general. Many people just hear the music that is most advertised and then think it is good because everyone buys it. The mainstream has unfortunately no taste for good music. It is so.
No. He has pretty decent taste (ex: we both adore Wolves in the Throne Room). His taste is more rooted in punk and old school death metal. So symphonic prog isn't heavy enough for him (he acknowledged the composition/technical aspects though!), especially YES (there's a forty year old YES patch on my bag--that's how prog came up).
...He just thinks its lame (like most of the mainstream...). Likes angrier, heavier music that generation(s) produced as discontent reactions to the previous generation(s), not the earnest artistic endeavors of the previous generation(s) themselves. Maybe I'm wrong...
I cried the first time I heard this song about four years ago because I didn't think *anyone* had made prog this good since the late 70s. Thanks for posting. :)
@enrikan Loads of great prog out there, too bad mainstream record labels dont promote it because they push their own controlled garbage cookie cutter dumbed down music for the robot sheep to be entranced by.
@enrikan Check out these bands, Unitopia, Big Big Train, Lands End, Landberk, Nosund, Kaipa, The Flower Kings, Everon, Forgotten Suns, Frost*, Koyaanisqatsi, Parallaxe, Phideaux, Pendragon, Satellite, RPWL, Ritual, and gobs more for pure prog excellence
i dont care about labels, this music is genius!!!

This album definitely makes my top 10 list. Other than Echolyn, Stackridge, and Genesis, I'm not sure who would join them on that list.

On Genesis' Foxtrot--I agree!

Some events that are called musical are people gatherers in the first place, and music is used there as a basic "excitement generator".
Very elaborate work. Crafty !! BUT I find it mostly doesn't "sound". Maybe it's the tempo...The closely-miked -drums recording approach
Many people, whether they tire at complex structures or not, are looking for the right "sound" that they want to hear repeatedly.
