  • F_ck !!!!!!! Greenpeace

  • rocket!!!!

  • DIESEL !

  • Yeah looks like a rocket, Powerclimb!

  • Nice gear action

  • The engine smoke is almost my favorite thing about the md-80, the smoke is mot any worse for the environment, just visible pollution, not like the new jets with invisible pollution

  • @XXXGhostGrenadeXXX They both use the same family of engines, the Pratt & Whitney JT8D turbofan. The MD80 series planes used the JT8D-200 series of engines. They sound similar to the earlier version of the JT8D found on DC-9's, Boeing 727's, and 737-100 and 200 series planes.

  • @bamaslamma1003 dead on summary about the engines, which def has alot to due with the exhaust pollution. one additional aspect i think is the low bypass factor in all of these engines, which contributes to the greater noise levels. MD-80 variants are probably the most likely today of disappearing commercial aircraft to be spotted. delta and american still regularly operate them in their fleets.

  • oh my god, look at that smoke coming out of the engines .....geeeee

  • i like how they are louder them some modern aircraft like 20 times the size

  • Ah no bueno, seguramente este avión aquí en la Ciudad de México no pasa la verificación ! jajaja XD

  • Spanair MD-80 in STAR ALLIANCE livery

  • Star Alliance! :D

  • Whoa.. that runway has a slope xD

I love how it seems like the md-80 takes off steep vertically xD

  • Look at the fumes xD

    Awesome

  • ¿Habeis visto algo más bonito que esto?

  • @MD80live Noooo, para mi, no hay avión mas bonito que el MD... Saludos

  • @MD80live el DC-10 ;)

  • @MD80live mmmmmmm si.....las piernas de una mujer, el trasero de una mujer, etc etc....tu preguntaste y yo respondi xD jajajajaja

  • Is this live or memorex? yeah I can't spell!

  • DIRTY

  • A dream day would be spending an afternoon watching these great birds fly. Nice video

  • what a fail of a runway! look at the mountain in the middle of it!!!!!

  • Seems pretty quiet for an MD-80

  • I wonder if this was Sunbreeze, that was in the Star Alliance livery :/

  • @moshrunners so fucken gay man calm the fuck down its just a plane i hate when gay ass people say shit like that what its jesus?! no boy, its just an MD-80

  • @hondacl0n3 Sorry what?

  • md 80 is the best aircraft

  • sorry if im wrong but this pilot seems like he is a wannabe fighter pilot! He must have tanked back on the yoke full force there it looked like. Maybe thats how they do it in spain but not here in chicago.

  • wow.. I thought this was a game to start with! wierd illusion at the start lol

  • What's the safety record of this plane?

  • Gotta love the black exhaust...take that Al Gore!

  • @AdamJLemon HAHA Dude, that was the funniest thing I have read in a long time.. But even though I study environmental sciences, I support you on this one.. LOL

  • @AdamJLemon if you like that look up concorde takeoff

  • rely nice!

  • fantastic....really good

  • Was this the bird that crashed in Madrid last yr? RIP to a beautiful bird.

  • THAT WAS A NORMAL MD80 TAKE OFF !!! the MD80 haves a lot and i say A LOT of power ... is a beast climbing !

  • FANTASTIC!

  • I like all the smoke from the engines

  • This is a normal takoff for an md-80 as they are able to climb out with the nose high also the aircraft is obviously tail heavy (cos engines are there) so having a high nose dosnt seem very strange to me

  • Sorry, ojb1989, it is not "obviously tail-heavy". Engine position has nothing to do with it being nose OR tail heavy. In fact being nose heavy causes an increase in the angle of attack as a result of the additional download on the tailplane.

The CofG is calculated well in advance of the take-off, and is dependent upon many parameters. SOP on the MD-80 series is to rotate to an angle of eight degrees to clear the tail, and then pull up to just under twenty degrees for the climbout.

  • Further - the camera angle looking down the runway, and then looking up the flight path appears to give it a deck angle of some forty degrees. Only in the center portion of the video , is it pretty much correct.

That being said - your estimation of the MD-80 aircraft is correct: a lightly-loaded 83 fitted with the JT8D-219 engines will climb like a scalded cat.l It is quite a powerful aircraft, carries a competitive load, and is still in use by many airlines world-wide.

  • horrible takeoff

  • Yeah dude that was terrible.. wtf was that guy thinking?

  • U R A MORON they are supposed to takeoff like that. Go fly to Palm Springs and look at them takeoff!!!

    U Should know better!!!

  • Comment removed

  • U R Still A DickWad..... ASSWIPE!!!

  • Comment removed

  • umm dude sorry for calling u a dickwad and asswipe. ha ha thanks :)

  • Comment removed

  • Yea. Probably get a nice juicy cheeseburger there :)

  • wtf the plane looks like its from flightsim when its on the beginning of the runway

  • i totally agree with you i was like WTF

  • The runway looked very uneven... maybe it was just from the camera...

  • alot of runways are like that and its easier to see if you look at it from this angle

  • yeah if you sit down at the end of I think Concourse C, possibly D? in ATL there's a hill in in the middle of 26L that planes look like they launch off of, looks cool.

  • its and md-83 .... 1980 ...

  • nice shot

  • Damn put some clean oil in the engine or its flying with diesel hahahaha Just a joke

  • that maybe was the plane that crashed at madrid in the summer cus is was spanair star alliance operated by lufthansa

  • yes men ... maybe this is a sunbriezee

  • Gotta love that soot trail from the old JT-8D's! Al Gore would not approve. These new engines are boring, all environmentally friendly and quiet. I like noise, smoke and POWER!

  • LOL... I like this guy. Power is beautiful, hence why you probably have a Z06 and why I have a GTO ;)

  • Just like AG rides around in a GII

  • cool

  • star alliance livery...very cool

  • That black thing is very hot, squeezed air.

  • that looks like the one that crashed in madrid on 20th august 2008

  • whats that black thing comming out from the engines? please reply

  • it's a soot-laden exhaust trail. aircraft equipped with JT8D engines can usually be seen taking off with dark vapor trailing behind them.

  • is that the case when the engines havent reached the right temperature?

  • i'm not so sure if temperature has anything to do with it, i have yet to see an md-80 take off without a ton of smoke trailing behind it. i thought i did once, but it turned out to be a Boeing 717 :)

  • ok, guess its normal then.

  • That sure has hell isn't vapor...that's tree-killing, Al Gore-protesting, eye-burning black as night jet exhaust :-).

  • Yeah! Go Maddog! Love the way they smoke!

  • yeah...fuck when u take off in this airplane ur just shooted into the air u feel ur gettin int the seat its just an amazing scary airplane !!

  • is this the one that crashed in madrid?

  • hey fixed when i saw the video i was thinkn the same thing i think it is, cuz the spanair that crashed had star alliance livery. r.i.p to those who died sad...

  • THIS IS A MD-82 MY FRIEND

  • woow what a smoke

  • whoa! What positive rate of climb was that?? Like 20 degrees? Is that normal for the Super80?

Anyways!! I really like the clip!!

  • Quite normal. Light, powerful planes such as the MD-80 series can support such a steep climbout rate while maintaining good airspeed. You won't see a 737 rear up like that, that's for sure.

  • Yeah thanks for the info. Is just really amazing you know. It amazes me every time :)

  • it is really smokey but the first part of that runway looks like it's downhill.

  • Wow! Smoky for an MD-80!
