OMG! I MIGHT MOVE TO CHARLESTON!! IT HAS A LOT OF BAD HURRICANES!!! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!
I bet hugo cepret wanted his notebook so badly that he had a hurricane named after him. If you don't get it than read the book of ''THE INVENTION OF HUGO CEPRET''.
@417polkadot It was weak in terms of wind, but was not weak in terms of water. The surge was not as disastrous as forecast, but it was still pretty strong and a HUGE rainmaker at that. My cousin lives along the Outer Banks of North Carolina, and her house was flooded and the roof was practically gone. The category of a hurricane just measures wind, it does not measure rain, or surge. Well it does surge to some extent. Irene was a Cat. 1 at landfall, but it carried Cat. 3 storm surge with it.
Hugo destroyed my home and me and my family escaped with 25 mins of watching our home get swept up in a tornado from my grandmothers house. It was scary and I was 7 years old. Wow!
I still have MY "I survived Hurricane Hugo" T-shirt! That's so funny that you remembered this....I was just trying to come back and compare the winds and all. We're currently at 37 mph winds.....It's definitely not Hugo out there, thank God!
@SSarsKing Stop over-reacting. We'll be FINE. It's gonna be a Cat. 1 by the time it hits us. To put that in perspective, hurricaine katrina was a cat. 4, meaning it's winds were twice the power that this hurricaine will be. RELAX.
@SSarsKing Just stay calm. They don't use the name hugo anymore. Hurricane hugo is WAY worse than your hurricane whatever the name is. Lucky for ME, I live in manchester, TN that has tornadoes, not hurricanes. HOWEVER, I might move to charleston. Wich has A LOT of hurricanes so you are safe, and I am prablably DOOMED! So you're safe, and I'm doomed. You are LUCKY!
i was 6. i'm from columiba, we evacuated to dent middle school for shelter. i remember getting woke up by my mom late one night and we had to get out of our trailer and seek shelter. i didn't really know what was going on until we got to the school. it was scary.
@boyisgood2085 Maybe, they are not sure where it is going but wouldn't surprise me if we got a hit from this near or at Charleston. We live about 36 miles from edisto Beach so when we heard at Noon today that they said Edisto beach landing we started our prep plan
What an amazing compilation! I love that you have the NOAA Marine archive radio broadcasts in there! Such a beautiful monster this storm....lived through it in Charlotte as a teenager.
I lived in Charleston when it hit ,but luckily I was only a year and 1 month old exactly when it hit. Would be cool to remember some of it though.
