  • Coming soon to America: Eastsiders

  • Need more flashy and sparkly things on the screen, is what the audience is saying. And I thought ADD was a myth.

  • Who in the audience keeps cackling like that?

  • is this guy trying to ruin the uk? hes showing the worsed shows on tv that my grandma (used) to watch

  • 720 > 480 > 360 > 240 > Minecraft > this video

  • "You belong on the end of a Peir." - I wonder how many people got the joke.

  • I love EastEnders although disappointed over the concessions made for American viewers. (Dot Cotton went through a period of histrionics that broke my heart.) One of my favorites used to be One Man and His Dog so I would have loved the nest-watching show.

It's the quiet, understated realism of UK tv that appeals to me. So unlike US tv that is always screaming about how wonderful it is.

  • Lol, they looked fucking traumatised at East Enders

  • @Chaingunkill To be fair I am as well.

  • @shaun056 Fair comment!

  • I would have rather seen them watch Jim Bowen than Dave, nobody in the world can deny the splendor of Bullseye circa 1992.

  • Christ what did you film this on?

  • ergh fucking sceptic tanks

  • british tv far better than any of the dribble the US comes up with...two and a half men, cougar town!!!

calling spade a spade and calling this shit ....shit

  • @jc210103 you should probably stop watching our shittiest shows then

  • @jc210103

'The Good Wife' is a good program.

  • Kinda hurts with Americans laughing at our British tv

  • @genericmilk

I'm a great fan of British tv. What I despise is how Americans have gone to the UK and told them to upgrade their 'production values' which makes them more like US tv. Ugh!

  • @notsotupelohoney its only the u.s that dont like our tv. the rest of the world loves it. i dont know why the uk is getting advice from the only country in the world that dont play football. and the only country in the world that plays baseball and has (the world series) how is that possible just playing against yourselves? fuck you people. the uk is way better than u.s you aint even got a king or queen. this guy was stupid in showing shows that old people watch. we got tons of brilliant shows

  • Still would rather watch these shows than any US ones though.

  • Which pixel is Charlie Brooker?

  • I'm from Morocco and I'm 18 years old and I gotta say I've seen the french version of Countdown and it's nice to see some educational program that benefits HUMANS and I would love to see less of that trash that make you forget about the real world, your life and thez horros that the American army and their alies are doing in the outside world.

By the way what kind of people laugh at a sophisticated litterature show and an animal program O_O ?!?! Maybe ones that believe in aliens and evolution.

  • My God the Bill was shit wasn't it?

  • im from the UK and i think all those shows are shit

  • I felt proud when the Americans were mildly complimentary about Eastenders.... What the hell is wrong with me.

  • Haha, British TV sucks, that's why we all have cable!

  • If i had 1 quarter for every pixcel in this video, i would have a total of 1 quarter.

  • the conclusion from the video :

americans can't still for 4 seconds

  • So they like everything we hate but hate everything we like... Tbh it looks like these people are almost offended by interlectual programs, the guy said he was by countdown ffs, they keep true to the sterotype that all americans are couch potatoes only looking for drama, i know their all not, or hope so :)

  • If I had a penny for every pixel in this video, I'd have a pound.

  • The Bill is the thing to be produced in england and mitcham, south london

  • I'm sorry for being snappy with you earlier

  • Apart from Countdown, these are the worst shows on English TV.

  • @icedbannanas did you mean to type 'as well as' instead of 'apart from'?

  • @flatbeat most probably yes, I'm glad we have an English teacher among us :) not meant in a sarcastic manner, proof reading is always required.

  • Bullseye is still better than any yankee show.

  • It irks me to no end that foreign shows go out and find the biggest bunch of twats they can find and call them 'Average Americans'. Did it ever occur to anyone that neither intelligence, nor preference is determined by nationality? Stupidity know no bounds! Though I suppose I'm just wasting my time with this, because who wants to listen to another sodding yank? I'll just go put on my American flag bikini and cowboy hat so I can use my bible to help me shoot deer. Yee fucking haw.

  • @TheLadyofthewest I live in the USA so I can vouch for the fact that these are indeed typical Americans. Of course there are Americans who aren't total spastics but it is undeniably true that the vast majority are.

  • @rabadooda I like in the USA as well, New York city. most people I know aren't this stupid

  • If only they shown Balls Of Steel, The In-between, Spooks etc etc etc etc =s

  • The quality of this video is disgraceful!

  • Eastenders - The future of American television!

  • The only thing better than Countdown is Street Countdown ;)

  • UK tv is the best imo. Well we have made some of the best shows in history. comedy shows are our greatest talent.

  • Channel 4 would probably be inundated with complaints if they introduced an electronic letters bord to countdown, perhaps the guy who suggested that would be more impressed with the shiney lights of the random number generator used in the numbers round.

  • Haha, all our shittest shows including a Bullseye from decades ago XD.

  • Hahah. They thought the Bill was bad? Because its realistic? Because its domestic? Because it hasn't got fucking guns firing every minute? Sorry, but its better than half the shit they make. And when they can find a way to add drama to Springwatch, I'LL Be waiting..

  • Shallow fucking americans

  • Hold on a second. Not ALL UK shows are bad. Top Gear, Screenwipe, BBC Breakfast, Balls of Steel, and 8 Out of 10 Cats are great. Air those on BBC America, unedited please! And use more of Charlie Brooker, Dawn Porter, Bill Turnbull, Chris Hollins, and Kate Silverton. THEY ARE EXCELLENT PRESENTERS!!

  • @betatalk357 yeah but this is about shit game shows

  • @betatalk357 with the exception of Charlie you've picked some of the most moronic crap ever broadcast on British TV

  • @retrospect77 Balls of Steel has Neg Dupree fucking with people while he plays "Urban Sports." And it was funny how Dawn Porter tested guys to see what they'd do in a social situation on Balls of Steel. 8 out of 10 Cats, although the simple premise is to guess what was the week's main topics, it was done so with humorous jokes.

  • @retrospect77 Top Gear UK is watched by 350 million people worldwide. Which is favored much more than Top Gear Russia, Top Gear Australia, and that ULTRA-FUCKED UP, HIGHLY INSULTING Top Gear America. I'd hardly call it a shitty show.

  • @betatalk357 they have a U.S topgear? No way... I have to see that

  • @alsdaftable You really shouldn't. It's terrible, and not in an amusing way. I went off the UK Top Gear years ago when they aimed themselves more at family and started doing the ridiculous scripted challenges, but the US Top Gear is similar to watching a live abortion.

  • @kalvaza you're really making it all the more appealing... maybe it's just your turn of phrase

  • @alsdaftable Correction: They HAD a U.S. Top Gear. It was so shit after 1 series (10 episodes), it's practically cancelled. The hosts' personalities were lackluster, horrid, humorless, glum copies of the Top Gear UK trio. All they wanted to do was powerslide Ferraris and Lambos rather than start at the beginning and delve down into the American auto industry and American motoring. And personally, it was so bad, it was like watching a cute childhood pet you love so much geting put to sleep.

  • @betatalk357 ( continued ) by the way, i never heard of any the shows you mentioned. you know more about "American remakes " than Americans themselves. wonder why? because the only people watching that bullshit is the British.

at the end of the day its just another show that Americans wont watch.

only remake that ever worked was ( the office.) the only British show worth watching ( doctor who )

  • @alsdaftable But then, it's extremely fitting for America in these times. A corrupt country with a tasteless culture, and adults who are bankrupt or unemployed due to greedy rich people running companies like slumlords. Meanwhile, everybody abandonded the youth of America to sort out all the bullshit left by their ancestors and fend for themselves.

  • @alsdaftable Kids who are now left having to play the brave little soldiers for the world, acting like nothing's wrong and everything's ok, when in reality, it's all falling apart and we lost our way. No more happy times, no more passion, no creativity, no hope, no future, no more speed to fuel us in the 21st century. A country full of nothing more than a bunch of permanent cripples, failed seekers.

  • @betatalk357 " Kids who are now left having to play the brave little soldiers for the world, acting like nothing's wrong and everything's ok, when in reality, it's all falling apart and we lost our way. ?

people like you are acting as if the sky falling and its the end of the world, acting like everything's wrong and nothing's ok, when in reality, it's all fear mongering and tomorrow is just another day...... see what i did there

  • @mrfwest What's next? It's ok to rape and torture? How about dog fighting? If that's the case, then I guess it is true we're too hard on that overpaid, overinflated ego, little dick, asshole Michael Vick.

And yeah, tomorrow is just another day,,, filled of shit from "Wendy Williams," "Oprah," "Desperate Housewives," "The Bachelor/ The Bachelorette," and "American Idol."

  • @betatalk357 yes they went too hard on micheal vick. he killed a few dogs. yes, it wasn't the nicest thing to do but 2 years for that? people got less than that for murder, rape and child milestation.

ww1, ww2, great depression, cold war, black plague, ice age, global warming. for thousands of years people thought the world was ending and yet......still here. why? tomarro just another dad

  • @retrospect77 And FYI, that shitty talent show featuring that pompous asshole Simon Cowell only has 30 million viewers in the U.S. Even if you added up worldwide viewers and the total came to 50 million viewers, Top Gear UK has 7 times the viewers.

  • American soaps are reeeeeaaalllly bad. but their prizes are usually better

  • how is springwatch meant to be dramatic

  • Oh god, all that and they like the Eastenders...?

  • dumb fucking yanks

  • Fuck them even if the bill did start paroding itself towards the end, it was the still the best thing on itv, and it had a very loyal fanbase!

  • hang on, so let me get this right, they loved eastenders but hated countdown? did that not see carol vorderman? well, they are doomed as a nation

  • <3 countdown... fuck america

  • "Like a rash that married a virus."

    Ha!

  • I will never hear a bad word against Countdown. It is one of the cornerstones of British Culture.

  • Everything doesn't have to be jam-packed with action and drama. British television has a long tradition of public service and that generates a fair share of programs that wouldn't work in a commercial setting. That doesn't make them all bad. A nature show about badgers might be really interesting, who knows? If I was gonna watch one, I'd prefer it to be realistic and true to life anyway.

  • The most interesting thing about this is the ignorance of that audience.

  • Charlie Brooker's comedy is immensely funny. I think it would work here in the US.

  • Oh Yanks, i do love em!

  • FUCK OFF THE BILL IS AWESOME!! better drama than any ffuching US program ever.

  • 53% of television show formats come from Britain. There's a reason why none of these have managed to go international.

  • H.D, eh?

  • Is this HD?

  • the ironic thing about Charlie Brooker is that he's the best thing on TV today... UK or US, with or without CGI

  • The idea of americans watching bullseye is fucking funny.

  • Why don't they show good british tv like Screenwipe xD

  • Our version is Letters & Numbers.

  • The only way to make Countdown popular in the USA would be to limit the number of letters to 3 & extend the time from 30 seconds to 10 minutes.

  • @pb99 and tits.

  • eastenders ftw

  • I reckon I could make Countdown a hit in the US. Just make it less restrained and British. Put Wu Tang Clan in D-corner. Replace the numbers woman with the dumbest, bustiest supermodel you can find and get Jerry Springer to host. Give away bonus points for finding swear words and getting naked. The winner gets a flamethrower. Just make sure that the audience screams after every sentence like a bunch of lunatics.

GIVE ME SOME MOTHERFUCKING LETTERS BITCH

  • @nonnynay naked models, flamethrowers, wu tang clan, who wouldn't watch that show

  • QI, Have I got news for you?, mock the week, top gear. We have better shows than the ones he used.

  • @FKnopsMckim The whole point is that the programmes they showed are steretypically British programmes that we watch without second thought.

And Americans would struggle with our comedy, it'd have to involve someone falling down and a laughter track before they erupted in raucous laughter.

  • @AjRhCp Errm... we watch Spring watch without second thought?

5 minutes would make me contemplate suicide...

Also, a lot of Americans actually really enjoy British humour and vice versa (Monty Python, Little Britain - South Park, 30 Rock)

  • @moshpotpaul Some people do. Spring watch would not last in any other country is all I'm saying, yet somehow it's been on British tv without complaint. Little Britain was changed when it got to the US, as was the Office and other UK exports. Monty Python has an almost cult following over in America, it's not a mainstream thing that we've exported, and even then its enjoyed for it's strangeness.

  • What about this for a good trade: you can take back Piers Morgan and we'll get Countdown and the Bill.

  • DRAMA?! They want DRAMA IN SPRINGWATCH?!

    -_-

  • @EbsNhexz pointless walking into itv as countdown is a channel 4 program

  • What the fuck are they laughing at it all for?

  • I don't like any of those shows (except countdown), but i'm quite offended by how shit they think they are :(

  • @MrsPopeJohnPaul I know exactly what you mean, countdown is amazing(my best word so far is `and` yeah!! three!!) and if they ever change the old school scenery i'm marching into the ITV building, and if they don't change it back I will be leaving in a morbid flotilla of Hearse's. But apart from that he deliberately showed the most deprived weird programs, yet I still feel a strange sense of defensive pride.

  • American cop show: " EVERYBODY ON THE GROUND OR I'LL SHOOT YOU ALL!

british police show: " please re-locate to the pavement".

  • @makky123 American cop: "Stop or I'll shoot"

British police: "Stop, or I'll shout 'stop' again"

    ;)

  • Bullseye isn't still on is it?

  • @hi262779 its on Dave.

  • I hate all this 'our country is better than yours' crap

  • topgear?

  • American telly doesn't really cut it over here though either. Ryan Seacrest would get lynched. I would gladly kick the stool away :P

  • And not to continue with some sort of long rant, but you do all realize the show is edited, right? What you see here probably is not even half of what the people here said. Like any good TV show, the reasonable responses were removed and the silliest and most comedic responses were kept.

Not that I mean to suggest it's some pro-British anti-American conspiracy, but it is just a 6 minute comedy segment, and a funny one at that.

  • Brilliant Quaility.

  • That's because your society is obsessed with stupid visual effects and FALSEHOODS!

You're a parody of everything that is humanity.

  • American TV is total shit.

  • LOL THE BILL

  • Its strange tho cause the lastest Doctor Who is made on a budget yet it looks miles better than US shows.

  • It doesn't all have to be expensive computer graphics, but that Countdown set just screamed 70's!

  • I imagine they'd whinge about Peep Show as well. Where's the laughter track?

  • Those game shows look straight out of the 70s.

  • snoop dogg likes coronation street

  • They reckon The Bill is low quality and cheap looking? All I can say is F.R.I.E.N.D.S! How shitty do you want it? Seriously, so many US shows are overly lit in a studio with bad sets, excessive make up and crappy acting. God, even our COMEDY shows are better made than any of theirs, that I've seen. Britain is the home of the soap, and they do it better than anyone else, especially the States! :p

  • @MrGlenLane I love Friends. It's a guilty pleasure.

My blood boils at the awful product placement though.

  • That woman with the fuzzy hair. WHAT THE FUCK IS SHE?

I MEAN. WHAT. THE FUCK. IS SHE?!

  • They say things that make it big only do half as well in America. American companies have more money, and can afford better sets, effects, etc.

Realising that, I would say that the UK have become better at dramas and documentaries instead. Reality shows, however, can quite frankly kiss my grits.

I think US shows are generally received better over here.

  • How the fuck could this be encoded any worse?

  • But you see, Brookers guilty in this of the same stuff he complains about. He's picking the worst possible examples of boring television to show them to get this reaction. Show them Sherlock or Spaced or Brasseye or The Office, then we'll see who has better television!

  • The only one they liked was EASTENDERS!?

  • @Fladoodle11

In their defence, their soaps are fucking monstrous and make ours look like Citizen Kane.

  • @PurushaDesa - Haha, fair enough I guess. They weren't to keen on the Bill though :P

  • Fuck yeah Bullseye.

  • He wants to bring drama into Springwatch?

    I... what..?

  • the bill wasnt cheap, all the uniforms and gear was authentic and the acting was good.

  • the american ethos : laugh histerically at anything different or that you don't understand

  • 1:33, in the audience, is that David Jaffe?

  • Comment removed

  • An American talking about cheap production values. Beyond parody

  • durrr, why don't they use computers to do it all? durrrr.

  • I think Charlie Brooker's identified why Americans are fat.

American TV glues your ass to the chair for 6 months out of the year with midseason replacements.

Good British TV ends after about 12 episodes in a given year.

  • Its so hard to watch this without getting extremely angry at the moronic audience, this really isnt a fair representation of the US. I'm sure they have intelligent people there too.

  • @Clungeyfml I am an American and I agree. I see these idiots and I keep thinking "Okay, you are the reason Lifetime channel exists, and you are the reason Operation Repo assaults my television, and you are the reason why Oprah now has her own channel."

On the whole, I agree with the sentiment that British TV is superior, but that hardly means us Americans are all like this panel of fools here.

  • @Wooboo Oprah has her own channel? wow

  • Oh fuck off, countdown is brilliant.

  • @bordarboy agreed, I will defend Countdown to the death!

  • He should of shown them clips of Shameless, Celebrity Juice, The Inbetweeners, Q.I and Mock The Week, lol

  • @Dhammond5 Oh yes! A Frankie Boyle era version of Mock the week or an earlier version of Shamless is all it's sweary, fighty shagging glory! I'd love to see what some prudish American soccer mum would male of that!

  • pppffftt any chance of a brew dorothy XD lol

:P he should have shown them Shameless and corry ;]

  • I like our programming. Its one of the truly British things we have left that haven't become Americanised. There are no glossy and fake tan wearing models on TV in Britain, there are no unnecessary flying images on our screen and everything's a little more calmer. The American way is the complete opposite and I absolutely hate it, to much drama in there soaps, in there TV shows, in the game shows and even in there news broadcasts....

Makes me proud to be British!

  • I love how charlie showed our worst most boring tv shows lmao. We have some great tv tbf

  • it's like someone recorded this on a nokia 3310

  • i don't like UK shows, i don't like US, i like good shows. Father Ted, Simpsons, Peep show, Battlestar, Doctor who, Curb, all come from the country of awesome.

  • @lordofbritain that doesn't make any sense..

  • It was like the super bad acting and like the super cheap quality and like the like the like the like the like the *meltdown*

  • Doctor Who is not s**t it's really good

  • JIM BOWEN FUCKING LEGEND!!!

  • One of the American people looks like Breckin Meyer.

  • lol

  • I hate all these shows ... But I'm proud to live in a country where they are made and have an audience to appreciate them

  • As an American I just want to say that the American audience Charlie put on this show was a huge embarrassment. It was also, quite sadly, probably a pretty accurate representation of the majority of Americans. We're not ALL like that though. Just way too many of us.

  • Ok, Brits: CALM DOWN. We like plenty of your shows. Both countries have crap, and lots of it. Just because people don't "get" a show from seeing clips doesn't mean people wouldn't get it if they had more time. Think of how many great shows take a while to appreciate. We're all humans and not really all that different in real life.

It's sad to me to see so much hate towards America so quickly. Then again, it's YouTube so I guess I shouldn't take it so personally.

  • I love that we have shows like Countdown, that we don't have to have shiny lights and effects for it to be considered good. We actually have the capacity to be entertained by content rather than an overdose of glitzy computer effects.

  • 4:02 Its a bloody documentary i don't want bloody drama in it

  • What's wrong with blue tits fuckers???

  • why is brooker showing them shit shows that no one apart from coffin dodgers and complete idiots watch?

  • @PurpleGiraffePG

Because otherwise it wouldn't be funny.

  • @PurpleGiraffePG cos these shows have HUGE ratings

  • "this big english tit!"

    brilliant

  • Lol that fat bald fella who said "Hello! They have computers that do that for you now." Ignoring the irony that saying 'HELLO' like that is possibly the most dated thing in this clip.

  • that fat bag in the yellow sweater is so annoying.
