I have trained with Mr. Hayes, and I have never heard him insult or be disrespectful to Soke. When he spoke of Soke it was always " My Teacher" not That Ninja grandmaster.... or what ever... What he did with the art, was find a way to market the teachings, in a way the non athletic can adapt . enough said.
@hammermill1970 In BlackBelt Mag. Hayes said He was ashamed of his art, He visited Aikido seminars thru YellowSprings Aikido, Then changed his art to ToShinDo
fuck you hayes we had the same soke and you try to trash him and you have created a fake ninjutsu system if these techniques are to hard for you fuind another style and hatsumi did not want us to try those techniques you know that he was demonstrating what you can attain lol funny hatsumi and shidoshi j oh warned that when the ninjaboom spilled to the net that you would be preaching garbage for money i started very basic very simple now i have absorbed the art and am pliable bujinkan the only
@champwagner I don't think Mr. Hayes has trashed Sôke - especially not in this video - and the points in the video are made by Mr. Manaka, who is the one speaking. If you say that you have absorbed the art, I suggest you first learn to be respectful before you make such claims.
@williu Whereas I completely agree with your remarks for respect. I would say that Hayes is no longer a member of the bujinkan. Soke Hatsumi kicked him out a few years back. Just wanted to let you know that bit about trashing him... though... i might interpret the "trashed him" a bit loosely is accurate. Though that does not mean we should stoop to such a level ourselves. we should always be respectful.
@resolutesamurai Whether Mr. Hayes has been kicked out or not is not is another issue. The important thing is the message, and in no part of the video does he or Mr. Manaka show any kind of "trashing" or disrespect toward Sôke.
Just add a Karate'ish way to it for the older ways I think. Add more hard strikes then move to do the flowing movment. Remember, theres no joint locks without strikes and no strikes without joint locks.
The problem is not lack of 'rough training', the problem is weak technique training. Often not enough time have been put down in acquiring the proper foundation, and sometimes the training is just plain wrong. Also, very often techniques are done too sloppy and not enough time is spent with polishing the details of each technique.
There is no "advanced" techniques. There is only basics. And you will NEVER be finished training the basics, the basics just becomes more detailed.
And get very upset when they run into 'rough training' partners at seminars and in class...not that 'rough' training necessarily translates into skilled training but without realistic training against realistic attacks at some stage of training, one will not survive a real life-threatening attack....take this from one Bujinkan student who has survived street attacks, both armed and unarmed.

@williu no no, I know, I was just saying his accusation was obviously not involved with this video. and that respect is needed, that's all.

This is very good. I have made a point to avoid the many teachers who teach in such a way for a very similar reason.

What Sensei says in this video, is exactly what he says today. No different.

Would love to read the essay he wrote. Is it still available? Was it in Sanmyaku or some other publication?
