The road was officially closed to vehicles, so the driver apparently made a wrong turn. The booing wasn't mean-spirited (although it probably was embarrassing for the driver.) The car could have been a Pinto and people would have reacted the same. No one was actually mad. Inebriated and euphoric maybe. Sledding down Denny is an annual tradition now. The nighttime crowds are mostly 20-40 somethings and kids are there during the day. Hipsters are too worried about messing up their hair for this.
I would be so pissed off. Fuck those stupid people. That's one of the few ways up capitol hill. That's also very dangerous.I would of played chicken and then not stopped when they wouldn't move.

They did not "scare off" the SUV. The driver realized s/he'd have to accelerate to make it up the hill and by doing so risk hurting people who couldn't/wouldn't get out of the way fast enough.
The driver was using good judgment; s/he probably didn't even hear their "booing" (my gawd, how effing infantile!) over his/her iPod.
