It would have been better to use a light first coat and work it with a dry brush, spreading it even until it starts to dry and looks light but uniform. Then the second coat rub in with rag or brush to get desired darkness. It looks ok for a first try. It takes practice to see how the gel stain works and how to get it to look the way you want.
