HELP! I have Sonar 3 Producers Edition. How do I listen to my synth? Audio 1 Audio 2 MIDI 1 MIDI 2 I select Track Properties Input is set at NONE I've gone through channels 1 through 5 and I don't hear anything. Bank is set at NONE I've selected insrtuments but still nothing. What am I doing wrong?
Cakewalk is a joke...it can't even bounce a simple track without some Visual C++ runtime error. We're not typing up term papers here...we're musicians, WE USE MACS!!!!!!!!!!!!
Installed it but lost my audio. Usin windows vista realtek soundcard. But completely lodt sound, uninstalled and tried reinstallin sound driver but still no joy, any help would be apprieciated!!!!
I have written a few songs with it. Generally speaking---if I'm not mistaken---people think of it as a low quality producer. But there have been quite a few composers and artist who have used it.
You can hear some of what I've written at my channel if you're interested. :)
OK GANG, BFD I mean BFD!! HE DID say Stonar. You can actually isolate the sylibles (spell check please) using SONAR'S OWN freq analizer to bust him and SEE YES he says STONEare. @hueseph how do i do it have you any idea....i have the m-audio fast track..i have this program and i have an electric guitar how do i put it all together???
I need serious help here guys. Im using Sonar 8 producer and want to trigger my EZDrummer VST plugin with my Yamaha DTXplorer edrum kit. The signal chain is as follows: DTXplorer module midi out to Lexicon Lambda interface midi in, USB from Lambda to laptop running Sonar 8 and EZDrummer. There are just no clear cut, step by step intructions on how to do this for a novice like me so please help.
@metalboi22 You need to map your drums to Sonar. There may be a template included on a CD with your edrums or you may be able to download one from their site. You could always do this manually. On another note, as long as you have enabled your edrums as the midi source ( gm midi drums "may" default to midi channel 10) you should be able to use them without any other configuration.
@tushar223 that nuts - i just did a tutorial about tempo matching so re-mixing is easier. yessssss remixing in sonar is soooooo easy! i remix so much in sonar and i love doin it!
would most say sonar is a better deal compared to CUBASE? i was considering goin with logic, but PC's are cheaper than mac's. So now i want either cubase or sonar. Does sonar come with all of these plugins and instruments? How are the drum sounds. if i buy the 500 dollar (full) version? I own reason, record, and pro tools, and i have good drum samples with reason refills, however i want a better interface and more capabilities.
This looks like a good replacement for FL Studio / Cubase. Could you tell me anything about the feautures? Are the "Studio Instruments" a part of Cakewalk Sonar, or do I have to buy them seperately?
Will Sonar 8.5 producer allow me to record my electronic drum kit - then seperate out each individual instrument (trk1-snare, trk2-kick, trk 3-hi hat. etc..). Then using Addictive drums, change sounds, volume, eq, etc.? Or do I get one shot and the drums recorded are all grouped together for mixing? I really need to seperate each drum and cymbal for mixing, eq, and tweeking, Thanks
People, Sonar 8 don't have plugin like Sonar 8.5, so if you don't find anything in Sonar 8, and see it here in 8.5, then upgrade to 8.5. I love Sonar 8.5, most powerful DAW EVER. Especially the ACT part and many features in 8.5. When i get a chance I'll upload my video. SONAR 8.5 ROCKKKKKKKKKKKKKK!!!!!
I wish i can work for Cakewalk or anything in audio production.. Hopefully i'll get into the Musicians Intstitute in hollywood because there's nothing id rather do than work with audio
@kosi368 SONAR Producer is available for purchase at retail for $619 (US) while SONAR Studio (a lighter version) is priced at $369 (US)... Sales on these products are also available at select retailers
incredible, deep, I will never learn all what this thing can do. I went from Sonar 3 producer to 8.5 producer and it is mind blowing. I only hope I can learn this to make my 3rd CD in a few years to come.
Hi Sonar pros :] Anyone knows if its possible to assign 1 single envelope to multiple parameters, such as feedback for left and right side together in sonitus delay? Link button doesn't help. Thanks
Hi there, my recording system is not completely quiet. Humming and buzzing only when I arm SONAR for recording. When I disarm, the noise goes away. I'm using a PC.
sonar 8 producer edition is THE most intense program i have used to this date. i will need a 4 year uni degree to understand this program fully and that is no joke. it is by far THE best music production software i have seen and will see for a long time.
Is Sonar 8 more advanced than Fruity Loops and is it better? also, i just got Sonar 8 but i really am new to recording music. how do i get my sound to work. i know it's really general but if anyone could help me that would be great
Visit Cakewalk's website and support pages for SONAR users for tutorials on how to setup your hardware and sotware. Make sure your soundcard as well as your Input and Output devices are selected correctly.
I am new to Sonar [8]. This video was great. The v-vocal section was one of the things I was tryng to figure out. I have one problem, though. When I try to create a midi track from the vocal notes it shows up on the track, but there is no output. The level meters dont move and no sound comes out. What am I doing wrong?
To anyone reading: I am considering buying Sonar 8.5. I would like to know a few things:
1. I have no previous experience with DAW's. If I get Sonar, and was really dedicated and willing to learn, would it be worth the time? Or would it simply be too difficult for a beginner like me?
2. I have a MacBook, so I'd have to run Sonar through BootCamp. Good idea or bad idea?
Anyone know how he got the beatscape to record into the sequencer? I got beatscape and I can load pad, but can get the sounds into the sequencer. I tried to drag the Rex directly into the sequencer, but that doesn't work.
Smile folks, this video simply demonstrates the various uses of Sonar.
A hip hopper will love some of these options where as a song writer will strictly use sound tools and audio tracks.
Everyone will use it differently depending on thier own skill level and musical taste.

i don't mind the digital world, but give me a sampler, padkontrol, keyboard and a couple of like minded talented musicians and i'll put together something with 100x more character than this.

btw, i'm not hating on sonar ... just where we are heading in general.
Real musicians are great, but programs like this are great when you are one person and cannot go out an buy $10,000 worth of audio equiptment and instruments.
Iplayinaband, your comment is interesting because it is the exact same thing "acoustic" musicians were saying about samplers and synths around 20-25 years ago. It's probably what the orchestra players said about the first pipe organ centuries ago. It raises an interesting question of what is "really" music. I know I don't have the answer. Food for thought, though.
Great point. That came to my mind and so I have considerably curbed the use of quantize and other stuff in order to avoid sounding to "Gridded" as you say. I like that terminology - maybe I'll start using it :)
just a question: what exactly in this video, that he does, actually requires talent and kill? i mean, all he did is press the rec. button, and loaded a track from the library. in fact, it was a READY track. i dont understand.
i want to start recording my songs i make on my computer and i have windows XP i relly dont know where to start so if some one could help me out i would appreciate it
Depends what you want to record. Guitar will need some sort of audio interface. If you're going to be singing you need a microphone (Dynamics are cheap - I got a USB 1 for £40). You need a powerful computer with some sort of DAW - Sonar, Logic, Cubase. It really depends what you want to record etc. Search on youtube for "Setting up a home studio" or something that should help :)
For recording I use the Presonus Firebox with Cubase 4. Cubase LE is bundled with it which is probably good enough to get you started. It costs around 250 bucks. You can upgrade to Cubase 5 after that. I tried the Sonar 7 demo, but it seemed to suffer from latency issues with the Firebox. In fact, I always had latency issues with Sonar (Sonar 1 and 2.2 XL). But, the Firebox and Cubase worked right out of the box with no tweaking, which is why I switched.
works fine.. it depends on what plugins you use as well.. 64 bit etc. some things I have issues with BUT it's been pin pointed to the VST-i makers. I'm waiting for them to sort it
Hi, can anyone tell me If I can use this program for simply connecting my daughters Technic keyboard to, so she can record herself playing her own tunes?
depends what you wanna record.. you could even use something like audacity if it's just audio. IF your wanting to record the notation as well, sonar 8 might be over kill.. they do home studio , music creator etc.. that might be more a thing to look at. Although if your wanting to use stuff for music production. A decent sound card (not the onboard one) is advisable IMHO
Quad core with at least 4Gb of Ram and the fastest SATA drives you can afford. I prefer Velociraptors, but a decent 3G SATA drive can do 16tracks or more pretty easily without audio anomalies.
I gave reaper a go last year and it performed as poorly as i feared it would. You don't just pop up over night and rival products that have been in development for decades.
Well you should better try it now , you will save time and money , i have been using it for 9 month now and i love it .I was using Sonar 7 before. For your knowledge Reaper is not made by amators, have a look on the story of Cockos team.
Its so annoying to see comments like this. First of all this is the wrong place to announce that you have an issue. Why dont you use the correct channel, like customer support? So not only did you waste comment space with your ignorant comment.
you didnt even tell in detail what issue you are having, no error message, no indication of what type of audio file you are dragging, no system specs or operating system information, etc. Please dont post stupid comments and hijack the author's post and/or side track discussions on your unintelligent issues.
Fantastic! As an intermediate user of Sonar, I've been looking for more advanced front to back examples and tutoials! Please keep it up!
Oh and please, does every Sonar video/example have to be hip-hop, etc? How about some traditional instrumentation and composition? You know, guitar, bass drums and vocals :-)
I got Sonar 8 Producer Edition yesterday and I haven't even finished checking out all the features yet. This comes with about 30 Gigs of content. But I absolutely love Sonar!! Best 700 dollars I ever spent! Lol
is it just software or does it come with any thing like, physical? and could you record electric instruments like guitar or bass on it? i ask you because you have it and im thinking about buying it it would be awesome if you could give me some answers
Will , it's software.. although it includes virtual synths (a big amount) the PE one has dimension pro, which has basses , drums etc etc.. to record your guitar etc.. you need a soundc ard.. one designed specifically making music is preferable.. the onboard ones well aren't exactly the best thing to use.
Sorry Im a bit of an imbecile when it comes to computers...
I just got ripped off with an old 8 track and when it shipped I realized that it had most definitely reached the end of its road long ago... so Im looking to take a safer route and just buy a digital recording system such as this one. Thanks
are you near any pro audio shops ? like guitar center , sweet water? if you could go in I think they would give you a lot of pointers. A decent sound card + a decent pc always helps. the days of 8 track are long gone (you can do silly amounts in software DAWS), the only limits are the power of the computer you use really, and a decent sound card
It just comes with software but you would still need some equipment such as a synthesizer and a midi output/input device. But as for recording guitar, i believe you would need some other softwares (wich i think is free, you should probably google it).
Btw, sorry it took so long for me to answer. I hardly ever sign on to youtube
I got this piece of shit with my awesome midi keyboard. Took the plug ins and shoved them inside Logic Pro. Is good for me now

Nathan, open up the piano roll and insert a note where desired. Drag it out to desired length. Now hit play.
Or arm a midi track and record it using a keyboard. The first option is a better choice given the material is percussive.

Good points. It's just how overly quantized/cut/edited/gridded/lifeless these tracks can come out. I listen to the radio, I HEAR a grid.
These tools can be great, and I certainly wouldn't open up a tape vs. digital SOUND quality discussion because I'm in the digital camp.
It is, of course, ultimately the people who use the software, and cakewalk can be set up to be as robotic or as human as we like.

just a question: what exactly in this video, that he does, actually requires talent and kill? i mean, all he did is press the rec. button, and loaded a track from the library. in fact, it was a READY track. i dont understand.
MrSviatoslavRichter 2 years ago
uh, its meant to be a TUTORIAL video of the interface of Sonar, and not a show-off- "look how talented i am"-video.

I just recently got this program and downloaded it and whatnot, but I have no sound coming out. Do I need an Audio Interface or anything?

i want to start recording my songs i make on my computer and i have windows XP i relly dont know where to start so if some one could help me out i would appreciate it
DeerSlayer72592 2 years ago 2
Depends what you want to record. Guitar will need some sort of audio interface. If you're going to be singing you need a microphone (Dynamics are cheap - I got a USB 1 for £40). You need a powerful computer with some sort of DAW - Sonar, Logic, Cubase. It really depends what you want to record etc. Search on youtube for "Setting up a home studio" or something that should help :)
DannyHere2009 2 years ago
For recording I use the Presonus Firebox with Cubase 4. Cubase LE is bundled with it which is probably good enough to get you started. It costs around 250 bucks. You can upgrade to Cubase 5 after that. I tried the Sonar 7 demo, but it seemed to suffer from latency issues with the Firebox. In fact, I always had latency issues with Sonar (Sonar 1 and 2.2 XL). But, the Firebox and Cubase worked right out of the box with no tweaking, which is why I switched.

uhhh this may seem stupid but my beatscape program dosent play back to me. is there a guide through on how to use this?

How does Sonar 8 work with Vista? Are there any bugs?
christopherderks 2 years ago
works fine.. it depends on what plugins you use as well.. 64 bit etc. some things I have issues with BUT it's been pin pointed to the VST-i makers. I'm waiting for them to sort it

Hi, can anyone tell me If I can use this program for simply connecting my daughters Technic keyboard to, so she can record herself playing her own tunes?
Thanks Rob
debroelle1 2 years ago
you can but this program is too complicated for doing something basic like that. use sony acid instead
popolino9 2 years ago
depends what you wanna record.. you could even use something like audacity if it's just audio. IF your wanting to record the notation as well, sonar 8 might be over kill.. they do home studio , music creator etc.. that might be more a thing to look at. Although if your wanting to use stuff for music production. A decent sound card (not the onboard one) is advisable IMHO

daamn its look like cubase???

What's a perfect PC (spec wise) to run SOnar 8 smoothly w/o clicks pops and CPU freezing?
Zhorellski 2 years ago
the same system that can run CRYSIS on high settings ;D
JetsToReason 2 years ago
Quad core with at least 4Gb of Ram and the fastest SATA drives you can afford. I prefer Velociraptors, but a decent 3G SATA drive can do 16tracks or more pretty easily without audio anomalies.
axeman098 2 years ago
Well i tried Sonar8 and still prefer Reaper , cakewalk and Steinberg are late regarding the conviviality...
nemo5491 2 years ago
I gave reaper a go last year and it performed as poorly as i feared it would. You don't just pop up over night and rival products that have been in development for decades.
CriticalBanana 2 years ago
Well you should better try it now , you will save time and money , i have been using it for 9 month now and i love it .I was using Sonar 7 before. For your knowledge Reaper is not made by amators, have a look on the story of Cockos team.
nemo5491 2 years ago
Cakewalk is always busy with advancing I see. I still have Sonar 7 PE and I still consider that new!

I just brought Sonar, but I can't drop sounds into beatscape and record them into the tracks like you. Please help!

Thanks.

Lol

is it just software or does it come with any thing like, physical? and could you record electric instruments like guitar or bass on it? i ask you because you have it and im thinking about buying it it would be awesome if you could give me some answers
deadgen12 3 years ago
Will , it's software.. although it includes virtual synths (a big amount) the PE one has dimension pro, which has basses , drums etc etc.. to record your guitar etc.. you need a soundc ard.. one designed specifically making music is preferable.. the onboard ones well aren't exactly the best thing to use.
cosine303 3 years ago
Sorry Im a bit of an imbecile when it comes to computers...
I just got ripped off with an old 8 track and when it shipped I realized that it had most definitely reached the end of its road long ago... so Im looking to take a safer route and just buy a digital recording system such as this one. Thanks
deadgen12 3 years ago
are you near any pro audio shops ? like guitar center , sweet water? if you could go in I think they would give you a lot of pointers. A decent sound card + a decent pc always helps. the days of 8 track are long gone (you can do silly amounts in software DAWS), the only limits are the power of the computer you use really, and a decent sound card
cosine303 3 years ago
It just comes with software but you would still need some equipment such as a synthesizer and a midi output/input device. But as for recording guitar, i believe you would need some other softwares (wich i think is free, you should probably google it).
Btw, sorry it took so long for me to answer. I hardly ever sign on to youtube
