Brilliant! Had this on DVD once. I reckon Paul Desmond's solo is far better here than on the recorded version. I'm still amazed at the sound quality of these Jazz Casual transfers.
I have been playing alto saxophone for 12 years and this piece is by far the best, true alto saxophone piece out there.
In actuality, it is not difficult to learn 'Take Five'. Speaking as an experienced saxophonist the problem when teaching this piece to young students (6th, 7th and 8th graders) is that the rhythm is unique.
Beginners, don't be discouraged this is a Jazz Standard. Especially for saxophonists, learn this piece for you will always have an audience if you can play 'Take Five'
best song ever, i've been playing all kinds of music for around 15 years now. But this beats everything. How simple it may sound, it's o so impossible to play for the averadge life time musician
I have been learning to play saxophonejust as the prevbious poster i suck at rhytm so it didnt work out. But believe me: to get that sound out of a sax you need years of practice. Genious!
my band teacher was thinking of doing an oboe quartet with it- except only one person was capable of playing good. i suck at rhythms and others are just OK at it, but can't get as high.
Even Tho im young and didnt grow with jazz an d blues! For me this one is one out of all i´ve seen of jazz and blues!
Men i´ve been playing d rums for about 2 years and men this guys are amazing! my dad has always told me that but never thought it was this gr8! I think i got jazz in my blood!
looking for this song for years? obviously not looking hard enough. it's one of the most famous jazz comps ever written. you could hum this tune in any record shop and be pointed in the right direction within seconds.
This has become one of those songs. You here it everywhere, everyone is familiar w/ its sound, but most people have no idea what they are hearing. It is like Vivaldi's Four Seasons or O Fortuna from Carmina Burana. It comes up again & again in movies & commercials. It has become almost invisible by its wide use. It is the perfect sonic embodiment of what is meant by the mood of COOL.
Brilliant! Had this on DVD once. I reckon Paul Desmond's solo is far better here than on the recorded version. I'm still amazed at the sound quality of these Jazz Casual transfers.

I could listen to this a re-run over and over and over again if I drove from NY to LA.
Each moment of that drive would be the most meaningful moments I would have in joyful thoughts.
