Contracting is awesome! if you like adventure and excitement and getting paid well its the way to go. Most of the contractors over here are in better shape than the soldiers. Contractors want to be here, soldiers don't have a choice. This is my third tour to Iraq, but first as a civilian... it's way better.
@sergeantRC First let me thank you for your service. I loved work as a contractor truck driver. Supporting the troops like that was the most fulfilling job I think I have ever had. It was great to know that in some small way, we were making thier lives a little better.
@sergeantRC The ONLY reason you dumb fucks are over there is our Gov does NOT want to start a draft. Americans would shit bullets having their kids killed for this BS ILLEGAL war. You guys are whores. And yeah I've been in combat and I still think you're dumb fucks.
@SethVandenberg Well first of all, let me thank you Mr. Vanderberg for your insightful input on the matter. Second of all I am a systems engineer for a commercial satellite network. That being said you may wish to reconsider your "dumb fuck" classification. We provide a vital service to the military units that they themselves are not capable of providing; regardless of a draft, you cant teach soldiers this stuff in 8 weeks.
@sergeantRC Aw-shucks serg , no need to thank me. [ Eyes lowered kicking sand with right foot ] Seeing the forest through the trees I'm quite comfortable with my generalization ( dumb fucks ) of contractors. The entire Iraq, Afghanistan abomination is so wrong / illegal, on so many levels, it is apparently pointless reminding people that their WILLFUL participation is vile at best. Congratulations !
LOL I love the patriotic spin CBS does. "Most are motivated by patriotism and hefty pay." It's more like "Most are motivated by hefty pay...and patriotism" That shit made my day lol.
there isnt a single person who is going to tell you " oh your safe" ... of course your going to get shot at and very likely going to get shot.
it is a war zone..
the ONLY thing KBR promises you is a paycheck. I used to work for VBR in 98. they dont BS ppl .. you work in hostile areas. you are a non comm .. IE your not going to be shooting out windows like john wayne..
I do feel for these guys, and hopefully by God's grace I will not suffer anything long term from being over here. However when we go through orientation we are told over and over again the dangers and that we are pretty much on our own if we were to get injured. It's no secret that we will not recieve workmans comp or unemployment. I know it sucks but nobody forced me to take this job so I do not plan on whinning when I don't get something that was never promised to me.
As stated by many PMC websites, you need military, law, or protective service experience. You don't need to be a specforce operator or anything like that.
as a cdl driver I'd say some of that 80000 dollars would have to go to buying armor like a MF for me and my truck. Unlike the troops at least civilians are allowed to own private armor , ...Right?
Yeah , that money can be a huge draw . I wonder if these companies are allowing driver to armor up the truck or not. If not these companies should really be held accountable for any and all damages. But more importantly its the drivers life and Me in those shoes would armor the truck and myself even though I dont own the truck. And get it in writing why I cant have protection on the truck.
The private companies who hire these drivers will pay huge money to add armor the fleets of SUVs that drive executives and diplomats around in the GREEN ZONE, but they will often balk when it comes to producing the cash to even minimally armor these trucks in the field.

War profiteers should shut up and stop whining! As long as they are being paid more than the troops they should stop whining!

"Profiteers?" I guess you don't need a job since you live off of social programs.

There are only two companies that I know that are hiring Americans to drive trucks in Iraq. One is KBR and the other is PWC.

Go at your own risk, knowing that if you get hurt, the insurance company may or may not pay off. That is in fact the deal.

Privatized war - inefficient, expensive, heartless and very good for profits and business, so self perpetuating.
Get used to it, this is the future as long as neo-fascists and other Republicans are in power.
