I saw Prof Salthouse's show many years ago at Albacon in Glasgow. It was always a great highlight of the convention, and managed to draw in every member to see this wonderful show.
John Salthouse was a wonderful chap and he and his show will be sadly missed.
Thank you for this tribute. I had no idea he was no longer with us. I had the great privilige of assiting him in the 1990s for his Science day lectures in UCD where I did chemistry as an undergrad, postgrad and even postdoc.
I still have all his printed recipes here and would love to try them one day!
I am deeply sorry for the loss of such an amazing Professor. Chemistry is my favorite science of them all and he contributed so much to this branch of science.
The "demonstration" chemistry professor/teacher is a rare and disappearing breed. It's sad, too. Like meteorology, there's only so much you can learn about chemistry from a text book.
I'd never heard of Dr. Salthouse, but he really sounds like someone I would have loved to meet.
You guys make great chemistry videos. Apparently, you also do great eulogies.
Sad, He was a good man and chemist. It's good to know, that there are some lecturers/teachers, which are so dedicated to their jobs. May he rest in peace.
RIP

Safety in the lab is very important. But I bet you all must have had fun making this video. I see his class enjoyed it.

There are some very good videos posted with Professor Salthouse in action. Perhaps they could appear in the "Related Videos" area.

What reaction is taking place in 3:13, and what causes such a noise?
I was quite surprised by that I haven't come across a reaction like that.
Great video guys, a great tribute to a great man from the sounds of it.

It's the Barking Dog experiment, you can see it on the Periodic Videos for Sulphur.

You can find that experiment in sulfur clip. I believed the guy was trying to ignite CS2 (carbon with 2 sulfur molecule)
