  • Wow, I remember that game in the arcade... that's oldschool.

  • I had this on the atari 2600

  • Why is the 7UP guy in this game?

  • One of my favorite games from the 80's, I remember the voice of the witch at the beginning of the game, "You will die".

  • 3:38 the short bearded fella with the axe was about to open a bottle of arrowhead

  • @JokesOnYou100 not much was really said it kinda slipped under Thompsons radar luckily :) i played postal 2, and the demo of postal 1, sorry about the slow reply

  • Oh my gosh! I beat this game twice over in the arcade. I remember the crazy sound effects! The ending with the devil shooting lightning bolts was INTENSE! The woman and the wizard was so tall so she died everytime! My favorite was the jungle. I just couldnt shoot enough monkeys!

  • Good demo. Crossbow was an underrated gem of a game at the old arcades. And pretty scary too-- it'd be sweet if you could do another demo, with the adventurers advancing from that jungle into the treasure room (bottom Right hand corner), where you have to confront the Big Boss.

Scary as heck-- he's a mean S.O.B. mustachioed guy (vaguely based on Vic Tolomei, the software programmer IIRC) whose eyes turn blood red, demon-like, and which you have to shoot out immediately. Cool segment.

  • I think Chiller has this one beat on the creepy factor.. in the arcades when i was younger that used to creep the shit out of me..

  • great game too bad there was never a crossbow 2, this was better than chiller imo cause you protected ppl in stead of killing them, can you imagine the uproar that would be heard today if chiller was released today? jack thompson couldn't probally sleep at night...

  • this game reminds me of Chiller except less bloddy

  • and you defend people instead of kill them...

  • this game used to scare me back in the days I was afraid to play it LOL!!

  • Oh! I have played this game on MAME. So cool!

  • Yea that floating eye was creepy and weird. Kick ass game, though!

  • YOU WILL DIE!!!! that scared the shit out of me when i was a kid

  • LOL me too!! This got my adrenaline surging when I was about 5 hahaha. I had to stand on a box to play it.

  • Awesome - I was looking for this forever. Put alot of $ in this game as a kid. HA HA HA - great

  • I loved this game! Thanks for posting it. Is there a version to download anywhere, DOS or something? This tkaes me back, video had not dominated the RPZG scene so games like this were neat and added to the thrill of RPG's when you got home from the arcade.

  • This game was being pimped by the subway on Wally Bear and the NO! Gang.

  • I remember this game when it first came out in 1983. I was a kid about 10 years old watching these other teenagers play. I got a good laugh at when the characters died.."OOOAAAGGHHH!" One of the teenages playing said, "Don't shoot your friends? I don't give a shit!" Apparently he shot the friend once too many times and then the game ended. The teen froze looking at the screen when the game suddenly ended and he said, "This game sucks!" ...pushing the rifle as he left! :P

  • I burned up a crap load of quarters playing this game back in the day. I was hoping this video had the ending scene. That was pretty tough.

I remember playing Gauntlet, Dragon's Lair, Pac Land, Popeye, Mario Brothers... those were my favorites. Brings back memories!

  • Dragon's Lair and Gauntlet, no doubt bro! Lol. Also, I liked Space Ace a lot too.

  • Cool! Can you upload Cheyenne? :)

  • Did that witch say curse you or bless you

  • OMG! She does sound like she is saying bless you. This was my favorite arcade game ever. I loved it.

  • It sounds more like "thank you" !

  • LUV THAT EVIL EYE!!

  • you should play the original arcade version. its much better and harder. you don't even get a pointer to aim with.

  • Wow...this brings back memories...

  • they should re release this one wii VC or x box live!!!!!

  • Just hearing the sounds made me 8 years old without any quarters.

    "NEW FRIEND - LOL!"

  • LOL no quarters. there's nothing like doing the walk of shame through the arcade watching those lucky bastards with quarters play their games while waiting for your mom to finish shopping. once i told the arcade attendant the game Paperboy ate my quarter and he opened it up and gave me 4 free credits... i'm so ashamed.

  • paperboy was the sh#t. Nice game to cheese to. This game was awsome. I own a Zaxxon for no other reason than that I loved playing it at age 11. I don't even play it, but I love the cabinet, artwork, markee, etc, etc.

  • this was nice. thanks for posting. great memories with this one :D

  • How can I set up the game so I can use my mouse to aim/shoot?

  • In the Mame32 options, check the mouse input box. It's on one of the last tabs.

  • I did, and now my my mouse moves the cross-hair....BUT when I use the Spacebar (default) to shoot...the game records no on-screen shots (seems to shoot out of frame). Also, is it possible to use my mouse button to shoot instead of Spacebar? Thank you.

  • Enabling the mouse input option should have left click to shoot as default.

  • I wish it did. Just tried it again. The game does not register when I Left-mouse click, and when I hit spacebar, the screen flashes, but no effect on where crosshair is,in fact, at start, when choose red or green path, I mouse over, hit Spacebar repeatedly, screen flashes, but no shots "land." Also, my crosshair is not like the ' + ' in the video above, but a purple ' X ' with a circle around it.... Not sure what to do, would settle just for spacebar actually being the "Fire' button.

  • OMFG do u have chyenne too?

  • i have this game, i need to get the pcb fixed, i plug it in and get 3 colored bars across the screen:( this game is extreamlly heavy! if someone ask you to move 1, esp down or up stairs, make an excuse not to show up lol.

  • What a blast from the past.

    Great game.

I have a faint memory of a western-themed game that was similar to this that came out around the same time.

  • That Game Was Called "Cheyenne".I Have It On MAME.Look For MAME On the internet,And Then Go To Rom World.

  • I remember shooting the Indians and they would yell, "Paleface!" :D

  • LMAO classic! I remember standing in lines to play this game back in the days.

  • UHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

Loved that ghost sound. "Crossbow" had some of the most bloodcurdling screams of any video game. Anyone know how to change the settings on MAME so that you can shoot using the mouse?

  • Did you ever shoot your own men in this game? I did that for fun and to make the game more difficult. The first time you shot your own guy, it was a freebie. The screen would freeze for a sec and say, "Don't shoot your friends!" Then you could shoot each player once, and he or she would scream "OW!" and start limping. Then if you shot the same player again, he or she would die. It was great.

  • I remember this game AGES ago at my local chuck-e-cheese. Scared the begeezus outta me yet I couldn't get enough. Thx for the post!

  • Yes, it just had these weird and creepy sounds. The slow fade ins and fade outs were spooky too. But man, this game was great. It was pretty predictable though, and so it didn't take long to get good at it.

  • That is so true! The screams and sounds, not to mention fade ins and fade outs. CREEPY!
