@drudigger I know, everyone gets it cheaper, but this store i got it from needs the money to order other stuff, they're suppose to be getting all this WW11 German militaria/ Nazi banners so i'm excited.
Whats the fuck guys. GP-5 filters are completely harmless, they consist of anti-chemical paper filter and activated carbon. I live in Russia and theres is shitload of those filters still rolling around and being in use. Despite they're all worn out and their protective chemicals must be deteriorated over time, when I wont recommend those for use against real hazards, they still block dust, smoke, volatile fluids vapors and other household air pollution very well.
i just bought the gp5 gas mask and yes it is very uncomfortable and it hurts my lungs can you reccomend me a gas mask that looks good wont harm your lungs and is comfortable?
They do actully contain a minuscule amount of asbestos, but it wont hurt you, what hurts you is the disintegrated metel parts inside of it,so don't use the filters, just buy a fake one that looks and sounds real, but dosnt actully work.
the gp-5 filters have no asbestos. and for everyone to know they sell filters online that fit 40mm so just get a new filter if you are unsure. do some research cccp1ussr, They are safe to breath in.
correct me if I'm wrong, but the small 40mm filters are okay to breathe in. They contain active coal. After a while they become heavy to breathe in, as the coal and cotton exerts more and more resistance and become clogged with pollutants from the outside.
The coffee-can filters are much larger and contain asbestos. These are also okay to breathe in, but of course you run the risk of getting cancerous particles in your lungs. No more than with cigarette smoking though.
I have been in Kuwait during the Kuwaiti-Iraq war and they supplied us gas mask too but I cannot recall any advice not to breath in, in fact they told us to breath normally.
strange for saying not to breath in...how can you use it then during chem or bio warfare? are you saying we need to hold our breath?I can hold my breath but only for few seconds but what if took longer... I think the main purpose of gas mask is to protect our breathing during warfare.
are pmk filters ok u said that they are they where made in 1980s to 90s and u said they where fine and in this video ur saying there not wtf plz someone tell me if pmk filters and ok
The filter contains activated charcoal and treated cotton. there is nothing toxic in it. the "burning" it the lungs is simply your body not used to inhaling treated air.
Ok I got mine from a surplus store in Oklahoma city. I open this little silver can that was in the bag with the mask and it said 1986 on the paper and I love the mask it's real cool. But could someone tell me what year these masks are from?

GREECE HERE!!! could anyone explain me with simple english the dangers of wearing gp5 mask? we don't need them to play here..we fight for our freedom...thanks
Not this one the company who made these masks stopped using toxic material such as asbestos just as ww2 ended and long before they created this mask you are safe the filter uses activated charcoal. Just FYI
is it safe to breathe through the hose or is it asbestos lined or something?
I got one for halloween with a coffe can filter and a tube, i need to know if it is safe to breathe through the tube. im obviously not going to breath through the filter but if the hose is safe it would look creepier. if neither are safe then i wont use anything attatched to it
A common misconception is that the O.D green filters and brown "coffee can" filters contain asbestos; however, the use of asbestos in gas mask filters ended after WW2. None of the GP-5 filters were built before 1970, so it is impossible for them to contain asbestos.
@RandomVidz690 Israeli mask filters are pretty safe, depending on the date. If it was made in the 80s to 90s as most of them were its no guarantee it will be effective but it shouldn't harm you.
@Venomdaggerz dude hes talkin bullshit my cousin is from the military and he is breathing through filters EVERY day almost and u will NEVER die by a gasmask filter :)
I'm buying one of these on eBay,it's coming from in the US and it says it's never been opened before. Is it safe to use?Is there a way to take the filter out and if so how.I plan on wearing at about 5-10 minutes at time, just every once in a while.
Pumpkin makes some good points. People keep throwing around this date when asbestos was outlawed by EPA, part of the intergovernmental network within the US. Guys, that is a US law. It does not apply to the whole world. Russian technical manuals confirm asbestos within the aerosol barriers into the 1960s. Who knows with other industrialized nations. Some countries used asbestos and others did not.
@RetroRespirators Additionally, a lot of you seem to think that filter carbon replaced asbestos. Asbestos was just a component of the aerosol barriers. Carbon was always present. You also have to consider other hazards. While it is true that GP-5 filters have no asbestos, the metals within certain years of manufacture have been confirmed to contain lead from improper refinery of the metal. These things were made by the lowest bidders and with limited health and safety regulations.
@RetroRespirators As the metal oxidizes over time it forms lead oxide powder among others. Now generally speaking that isn't too big of a problem as the rear barrier stops the inhalation of the powders. As the filters degrade, it becomes all the more likely. I'm probably wasting my time as a good majority are just gonna shoot me down anyway. But for those that can reason...
The GP-5 filter has filtering paper that contains 20% asbestos
People are so stupid to say "Yesterday i breathe trough it and nothing happend"
What the hell? what would you expect to happen?, exposure to asbestos can take up to 30 years to do any harm, but because of the small amount of asbestos and the charcoal layer in the filter it wouldn't do any harm at all, i'd say it's fine to breathe trough, as long as you don't break open the filter..
@thelineman31 even if it is, it wouldnt be so in the newer modern filters. you can tell, the newer filters have ridges and line on the top around the threading, whereas older ones were flat around the opening. and the cotton itself would still filter out the asbestos. still wouldnt make sense though, asbestos used to be used to clean the air, now they use charcoal. using asbestos in cotton makes no sense, and would cost more.
@thelineman31 so i give you a long logical argument and your only counter argument is "well it does so don't breath the GP5 filters"? please, be more convincing. there has been no reports ever of someone dying of asbestos exposure to a gp5 gasmask. probably because there is no asbestos
@thelineman31 if everyone who ever inhaled asbestos got mesothelioma everyone from the 80s and back would be dead. and its not like you ALWAYS wear a gas mask throughout most of your life. and you still have yet to PROVE that asbestos is in the filters, i use them for training and operations, i believe my superiors over a random internet guy who has yet to provide sufficient evidence to prove their claims.
@PumpKinEatsYou also you should note, people who say it hurts to breath after an hour, is because they most likely live in humidity, so theyre lungs arent used to the extremely dry air that the filter creates (it strains out all moisture to kill contaminants. besides, GP5 filters you are using never were made with asbestos, they were made after the ban on asbestos in gas masks
the green filter has no asbestos what so ever, it was outlawed for mask used some time in the 50's, it only contains activated coal (charcoal) and is completely safe, i have one and their great things, the filter with asbestos that are compatible with GP-5's is the brown (coffee can) filter, looks almost the same as green, but is a "coffee" colour. PERFECTLY SAFE!!
@PumpKinEatsYou I don't get how the hell they are toxic? They are not for human use? Was the purpose of that filter? To poison me? :)) Man that's funny! Is to filter air not to intoxicate humans! WTF! I played a lot with such things when I was a kid!
For the last god damn time. After the 50's everybody stopped producing gas masks with asbestos. Now the GP-5 uses active charcoal. Its in everything. Your filters for air at home, air conditioners, my mum takes active charcoal pills to clean her lungs. As long as the filter is sealed then there is no harm. Breathing it in is like breathing dust on your window sill.
The GP-5 was made in 1970 firstly. Secondly only WW2 gasmasks contain the toxic asbestos which is only toxic due to the amount of time it's been inside of the masks, which has made it release chemicals and other toxins along with it. The GP-5 contains ACTIVE CHARCOAL which is only slightly toxic if the filter is broken. Don't make videos when you dont know shit.
After WWII They Stopped using Asbestos because they knew it was dangerous. They then started to use charcoal. Charcoal Is dangerous when inhaled. The charcoal breaks down. As Long as the "Cloth" closer to the top of the filter isn't perferated, torn, or ripped It is safe to use for DEMONSTRATION purposes only, although it might protect you from Tear gas, That's pretty much all it will do

Bought two of them for $14 from a army surplus place.
Took away the exhale valve and filled the two filters with marine plastic padding so that they can be used without breathing through the filter.
However my face always gets itchy from the mask, is it just because it's tight or does the rubber contain any nasty chemicals?

@CCCP1USSR the cotton is 20 percent asbestos
thelineman31 3 weeks ago
@thelineman31 even if it is, it wouldnt be so in the newer modern filters. you can tell, the newer filters have ridges and line on the top around the threading, whereas older ones were flat around the opening. and the cotton itself would still filter out the asbestos. still wouldnt make sense though, asbestos used to be used to clean the air, now they use charcoal. using asbestos in cotton makes no sense, and would cost more.

@CCCP1USSR but it does so don't breath the GP5 filters
thelineman31 2 weeks ago
@thelineman31 so i give you a long logical argument and your only counter argument is "well it does so don't breath the GP5 filters"? please, be more convincing. there has been no reports ever of someone dying of asbestos exposure to a gp5 gasmask. probably because there is no asbestos
CCCP1USSR 2 weeks ago
@CCCP1USSR yes but they might of got mesothelioma but to make a long argument short it does so don't put them on with the filter in
thelineman31 2 weeks ago
@thelineman31 if everyone who ever inhaled asbestos got mesothelioma everyone from the 80s and back would be dead. and its not like you ALWAYS wear a gas mask throughout most of your life. and you still have yet to PROVE that asbestos is in the filters, i use them for training and operations, i believe my superiors over a random internet guy who has yet to provide sufficient evidence to prove their claims.

@CCCP1USSR Oh sir im so sorry are you in the service? i just heard there was asbestos
thelineman31 2 weeks ago
@CCCP1USSR oh i forgot do YOU thinks its ok to wear i dont want to die
thelineman31 2 weeks ago
@PumpKinEatsYou also you should note, people who say it hurts to breath after an hour, is because they most likely live in humidity, so theyre lungs arent used to the extremely dry air that the filter creates (it strains out all moisture to kill contaminants. besides, GP5 filters you are using never were made with asbestos, they were made after the ban on asbestos in gas masks
CCCP1USSR 5 months ago
@PumpKinEatsYou
No they do not contain asbestos, gas masks havent contained that since the end of ww2...atleast not the soviet/russian ones. get your facts straight

@PumpKinEatsYou nope.AVI
the green filter has no asbestos what so ever, it was outlawed for mask used some time in the 50's, it only contains activated coal (charcoal) and is completely safe, i have one and their great things, the filter with asbestos that are compatible with GP-5's is the brown (coffee can) filter, looks almost the same as green, but is a "coffee" colour. PERFECTLY SAFE!!
xDGTFO 4 months ago
@xDGTFO I never said it was unsafe, shut up smartass stop acting like you know anything about it
PumpKinEatsYou 3 months ago
@PumpKinEatsYou I don't get how the hell they are toxic? They are not for human use? Was the purpose of that filter? To poison me? :)) Man that's funny! Is to filter air not to intoxicate humans! WTF! I played a lot with such things when I was a kid!
Samyaza69 2 months ago
I just picked up a gas mask. it looks exactly the same, but the guys from the surplus labeled it as a dutch gas mask.

You can breathe it, i do too, nothing happened.

no asbestos only activated charcoal...

Awesome :D
TheDementedFaery 6 months ago
The GP-5 was made in 1970 firstly. Secondly only WW2 gasmasks contain the toxic asbestos which is only toxic due to the amount of time it's been inside of the masks, which has made it release chemicals and other toxins along with it. The GP-5 contains ACTIVE CHARCOAL which is only slightly toxic if the filter is broken. Don't make videos when you dont know shit.

different moddel? u mean the GP-6?
sniper3404 6 months ago
do u have to hold ur breath when putting on a gasmask???
Mats900ie 6 months ago
@Mats900ie no, the point of the gas mask is to be able to breath in radiation, he just thinks the filter has asbestos, which it doesnt
gtaisawesome87 6 months ago
iIf this is skin tight does that mean you can use it underwater?
paintballer14ify 7 months ago
@paintballer14ify Gas masks filter the air outside and makes it safe, so you would just be getting water in the filter and mask. if you tried that.
XXDemonXSlayer13XX 7 months ago
@paintballer14ify no do you forget theres an air intake and exhale port?
MrAwakenAlive 7 months ago
how are they toxic again?!??
tinyflea1482B 7 months ago
Even Gasmasks during and before WW2 had asbestos removed.
F4Wildcat 7 months ago
really i didint know that
TheGamer1468 7 months ago
Is this Gas Mask also called the Elephant?
CrushedByATank 7 months ago
After WWII They Stopped using Asbestos because they knew it was dangerous. They then started to use charcoal. Charcoal Is dangerous when inhaled. The charcoal breaks down. As Long as the "Cloth" closer to the top of the filter isn't perferated, torn, or ripped It is safe to use for DEMONSTRATION purposes only, although it might protect you from Tear gas, That's pretty much all it will do

Sorry for the horrible grammar on my last comment, it was about 2:00 AM. In simpler words, this is bullshit.
