  • Not much margin are you kidding.. ive been in the hobby biz for most of my life and its almost 50% profit on these things.. they are all made in china and bulk made super cheap..

  • the Phantom may no longer be available to buy as a whole plane but you can still get all the parts off of Hobby Zone for sometimes a little less and you can still have the plane but go through the hasla of putting the plane together part by part and that's what i plan on doing to get the Aerobird Swift. fly safe guys

  • lol mine is to nose heavy and smashes help i have tried moving the battery doesent work

  • @rc4wd101 try setting the trim at a higher elevator

  • Comment removed

  • ive had $30 AIRHOG STUFF THATS BETTER THAN THIS THING

  • @stealthypenguin134 air hogs suck buy the hobbyzone champ it actually flys like a plane should.

  • @GFLYYER YEAH! go champ, i got 1 easy 2 repair, n i used the old wing on a glider!

  • @GFLYYER I agree, mine is great for learning and I also think its MUCH better to actually have elevator then just using throttle to go up and down. Great plane!

  • How many channels is this? Does it have ailerons? And what company made it?

  • @Zikeflyer No ailerons. 3channels. horizon hobby.

  • @RCdowner technically its by hobbyzone :P :P i love hobbyzone

  • @zakyboi123 Hobby Zone is in horizon hobby

  • @RCdowner yeah, i know but its actual company is hobbyzone, thats why the box is covered in hobbyzone!! i know its horizon hobby,

  • i brok mine i did not set the flaps

  • Hmm... Never seen that type of servo before, with a wheel like that...

    I wonder how that works?

  • nice plane, i like the fact that it can do loops. I've the Parkzone T-28 and F4U plus about 6 Harbor Freight "Yellow Bees". Might have to try this plane in the video. Looks like fun.

  • does this plane fly in 5 mph winds

  • lol i got a better and bigger rc plane for just $50 us and it works perfectly since it was a christmas deal i got it for just $ 29.95 with 49MHz it is quite strong

  • lol mr pevert at 0:13

  • What are channels?

  • those shisu batterys are illegal in the usa because of toxic matirials and high leakability so...

  • the wing supports when diving

  • very nice

  • a.c.t. technolegy

  • i was wondereingif a cam could be put on it?

  • i got 2 and both broke on first use

  • yea i brok mine in 1 day

  • @bumblebeatle18 Then you got something to repair ;) joy That is learning to fly, spend more time repairing then up in the air:P at least you got to know your plane

  • @bumblebeatle18 welcome to my rc club :))))) there's lot of us, don't worry :D

  • @bumblebeatle18 Same here I was so excited when I bought it, then when I got it in the air I realized I had no idea how to fly. Then Crasshhh

  • Do a flat spin!

  • i got a job at 13 at hobby town yesterday

  • ACT was a huge source of my first crashes: "GAHH NO POWER!" on a low pass and BOOM! strait into the tree I was planning on flying OVER, not INTO

  • hey my commander 2 dont had up and down

  • Awesome - thanks for posting - this looks like fun!

  • Where can I get this for free?

    lol

  • You should review the skyfly max its a trainer for ailerons with a stock brushless motor

  • Dynam Hawk Sky for the win. 4 channels, easily upgradeable, like $110.

  • did he say 55 bucks? ore 85

  • anticrash technology got annoying on my supercub LP.

  • Great videos! I find the ACT hinders more than helps, but that may be because I already know how to fly :) Make sure if you do use ACT that you are plenty high/have enough altitude! It will help straighten you out, but it takes over your controls so it can cause confusion!

  • I have the Firebird scout. I got it a couple of years ago, and today was the first time I flew in a year. I'm going flying again tomorrow. Exciting.

  • @meishongzai i could probably make one out of spare parts, as they still sell those

  • NOOOOOOOO!

    this plane is discontinued!

  • @remotecontrolaholic nevermine you can make it yourself :)

  • @meishongzaiCan you point me to a link?

  • Hi i was wandering if iam loose control as first fly and how get the plane to Approach next to you? coz where i leave was a Succer field quiet big in areas but are house near by!

  • can i ask.. is the ACT something you have to use? or can you turn it off? someone plz reply fast!

  • you can turn act off

  • you can turn it off by pushing the thumbstick down.

most people don't fly with it, because it kind of makes flying tricky for beginners.

  • @blazing1hound yes you can press the right stick and hold till the red light blinks!

  • Vampirella is hotter than Georgia asphalt

    on a hot summer day!!

    Happy flying Sir!!!

    JD Saldivar

  • Another thing is, if you fly the plane into winds 7mph+ it can easily stall and crash. I've seen this a lot in other videos. For me, 5 mph winds are perfect because some wind helps me to climb whereas no wind at all requires a little more effort. But all in all, great plane and I totally recomend it to anyone new into the hobby and has never even touched an rc. Well on second thought you might want to go out and buy a simple $30 airhogs rc just to get the feel of flying rc. Happy flying ;)

  • To anybody looking at getting the firebird phantom. Aside from little airhogs foamies, this is my first 3-channel RC. I took it out to my local park the other day with 7mph winds. This thing is simply amazing. Before I flew it I thought I'd crash it within seconds. But I launched it strait into (keyword "into" and "strait") the wind with full power. It flew slightly downward at first but with a bit of elevator it climbed just fine. This plane is also a GREAT glider. I recomend it to anyone new!

  • oh by the way about the landing gear on this plane it will work on grass if you beef it up by wrapping a few layers of foam around the wheels to make them bigger and softer. for me it works like a charm

  • could i hook a dx7 up to this thing. i wunna make it drop a para jumper

  • Does it have a spring -loaded throttle like when you push it up it comes back down or does the throttle stay in place?

  • my first rc aircraft was a firebird. not that same model but it was terrible.

it looked exactly the same but the servos for the v tail control surfaces were extremely weak and it did not mix it oly acted to roll the aircraft, as fir elevation you were supposed to speed up the motor to climb and decrease it to fall. it stalled very easy and had almost no control. but it looks as though firebird has come a long way with this.

  • the tail is very weak mine broke first flight

  • the airplane is awesome for beginners but i wouldn't say the same thing about that transmitter.

  • Sure looks like a very well designed plane. Very beginner friendly. That's what I need!!... :-)

  • Im not really fan of the aircraft with the stick like body and that type of appearence.

  • Dave, i know this is a 3-channel plane, but are the elevator and rudder controls in the same place as our "standard" ? In other words, i once bought a chinese airplane from eBay and the controls were not what we were used to. I think the rudder and aeleron were switched.

  • Very nice Dave, thank you! Now I saw the bi-wing and quad-wing conversions that you did to this plane (very cool btw) - would something like this with a bi-wing be better or worse for a newbie?

  • You say 55 in the vid but 85 on the text!

  • i should of gotten this instead of firebird commander 2 :( sob sob

  • ya i got the cammander 2 for 150 bucks and its anti crash technology is @#%$(pardon my languge) but it made it crash got it up to about 150ft high then it took a nose dive so :P i dont recomend it

  • oops didnt mean batteries.

  • lol those are the same batteries and almost exact transmitter that came with the blade mcx by e sky lol.

  • A.C.T doesnt do crap

  • ya it does

  • haha. bought this and it is terrible.

  • why?

  • thanks dave.. im a big fan of your videos and because of you im getting a phantom Keep posting more videos and hopefully it is as good as it looks in the video thanks =]

  • my plane never took off

  • nether did mine

  • something in common

  • what happened

  • how much did the plane cost $85 or $55 dollars? 1:03

  • when i bought one 2 years ago it was 56.00 and it broke i am getting it fixed

  • is the firebird better than the wildhawk? the wildhawk dosn't have ACT

  • ACT is not Anti Crash Technology. its Assured Crash Technology lol

  • @aldudio xD

  • my phantom crashed and burned. the wing snapped in mid flight

  • i got one and it said

" in safe mode you cannot do tricks"

i was able to do a soumersault in safe mode and it crashed in mud.

  • once i had a firebird. its a great plane, easy to controll even from the first time. but has a big problem even with very small winds

  • should i get this or the mini super cub? I mean which one is stronger, or easier to fly in wind. stuff like that.

  • i think the mini super cub, just cuz it would be more stable in the wind. since its bigger.

  • @remotecontrolaholic i have the mini super cub. ill tell you it is very durable. I took two hard hits the first time i flew it. Then again that was the only time i flew it. But if i knew how to fly it it'd probably fly good. I'm probably the only person in my area whe even owns an RC plane though.

but I know the mini super cub doesnt have x-port. I know the mini super cub would fly nice if i could fly it better. It took off nice but I think i went to hard on the turns.

  • sorry man too late. i got the phantom and am loving it. it seems to have come with a piece of plastic to strengthen the tail. it has taken many hard hits and is fine

  • @remotecontrolaholic Comparing the comments about this one and how people are having so many problems with it i'd say get the mini super cub.

  • i would go for the normal super cub, as it is just as easy to fly and durable as the mini one, but is easier to repair and can deal with more wind

  • should be able to

  • Do u think u can fly it in a public park????

  • i have 1 question, could i fly this in my front yard? or is it more ment for parks?

  • this is indeed very good price for this peace of technology

  • Comment removed

  • you make really good videos. I've watched most of them and thanks to this one, I might buy a phantom

  • okee but how many channels does Firebird Phantom have??

  • how many channels does it got??

  • Three.

  • @NEEDCARS it got ? lol it has 4 channels i think

  • @MrVidManiacMilo, its has gas, elevator, rudder. 3 channels

  • you should get the Mini Super Cub, its very stable, but you can't use it in strong winds

  • Got one and also the Cessna Centurian They are great, too but cost more.

  • I fly a .50cc hanger 9 showtime but i think the Cesssna Centurian is just as fun.

  • wow i think that should be well over 100 dollares because it has even a sensor for an anticrash kit

  • Yes, but I dont recommend using it.

  • On horizon hobby the phantoms are 85.00 dollars.

  • Well call the free number in the link to the right where I got mine and mention the video.

  • I'm thinking of getting my first RC plane, but i'm not sure whether to get this or the mini super cub. Any suggestions about which would be stronger, easier to fly etc.? Thanks

  • Super cub is good, but it is best to have an instructor for the first flights to trim it out for you, as they all break when you crash, just like real ones. I like this Firebird really well though, but dont use the ACT. Good luck

  • Great, thanks for the advice.

  • @NightFlyyer i got the super cub but there aren't any instructors around the area i live in. And there's only one simulator for 300 some dollars without the transmitter. So i don't know what to do. I might move to Louisiana next year and i hope that there's aleast 1 down there.

  • THANK YOU for posting this video, because of you i'm getting one now!

  • Thanks and good luck.

    Dave

  • lol me 2

  • Battery question. Is it okay to charge my batteries and put them up until use?I'm talking a week at most, maybe a bit more. Will they stay fully charged for later use? or should I just leave them uncharged until the day I plan to fly?

  • NiMh batteries typically lose about 2% charge a day, so always recharge them just before flying. It wont take long. I always store my batteries charged.

  • duly noted, thanks!

  • nice vid dave, i flew mine for the third time today, it was fantastic, it is so easy to control even in some wind, thanx again

  • Thanks and congratulations. Keep it up.

  • ur right about the ACT, i used it and if u try anything low it just shuts off the engine :( which is just anoying. i used ur coloured tips idea and its brill ur a big help :)

  • Thanks again. Happy Flying.

  • thanx, look up Firebird Phantom vid as it is all because of you that i fly RC planes thanx.

  • awesome find man but what abotu starter helies? i hear the lama v4 is good but i need a secon oppinon from u my b day is on april 24 so i hope ot get 100$ and buy the lama v4 but second oppinon is allways good =D

  • For sure the lama is good, and the blazing star and right now the MCX is the best to learn on. Happy birthday.

  • Great video. I've just got a Firebird Phantom... and looking forward to flying it.

  • Congrats. Make sure to see my beef up video and look things over. I do not recommend flying with act on.

  • hey listen i really want the firebird phantom but i also want the blade cx2 what should i buy?

  • Get the Blade MCX and have fun.

  • Hello, I watched allmost all of your videos on helicopters and air planes and wanted to switch back to air planes. I have tried the firebird commander 2 but crashed it a year ago. Would you reccomend me to try this one or mabye another plane?

  • FB phantom is fast, and I recommend not flying with ACT turned on. The SuperCub is also another good plane to learn on.

  • got my plane today, did the stuff from your other video on how to strengthen it. Looking forward to maiden flight tomorrow.

  • Make a video and take your time. Dont fly in ACT mode..

  • Why don't u recommend the act?

  • It isn't a magic bullet and can get you in trouble on cloudy days or if your too low, then there is not enough control to save it. I say if you learn with a crutch, you will always need it.

  • also if you lose control of it or go outta range it will continue to fly on its own for a long ways mine finally landed half a mile away. LOL!

  • I ran out of characters, I just noticed im on my wrong account. My account is quadracer111. Anyway i just wanted to say thanks!

  • No Prob. Your welcome.

  • Hello Dave! Big fan of yours and love your videos, I have a lama v3, v4 and a blade mcx, a few airhogs toys, and I picked up a parkzone vapor today. I am also progressing on a honeybee fp, i would like a bigger cp heli so i could fly in some wind but being my age i do not have lots of money to burn (my profile age is wrong). Im hooked on planes now and i decided to get the pantom for this summer. Could i use a 7.2v 800mah lipo in this plane, is there a nimh with a higher mah i could upgrade to?

  • I already tried the Lipo and made a video on it. definitely not worth the problem of changing connectors, plus no room.

Just buy another couple of extra Nimh's and enjoy the flights.

  • HGey, just waanted to drop you a niote to say I located a local RC flying club in Lexington Nebraska, and am applying for the ama license tonight and all thanks to you. Been working through nearly every one of your videos slowly but surely and absolutely loving the RC's so thanks again.

  • Congratulations on AMA. IT is good for insurance and a good magazine too. Welcome. I appreciate your patience and time watching my videos. Ive seen your name a lot lately. Very clever I might add too. Stay tuned.

    Dave

  • how do you deliberately make the airplane go down like you demonstrated in the video while using the A.C.T.

  • I could be wrong but I think you can deactivate the A.C.T when you have learned to fly it etc. Thus allowing the demonstration you are referring to.

  • Nope. It flies fine, but in a half rate state. You can still push it down. But if you go too far, it will level itself. IF it was perfect, you could never fly it at all. It would not go up or down. I never use it, as I like full controls, not half rates.

  • Just push forward on the right stick. When it starts to go down straight, it will kick in and shut off the motor and kick up elevator in it. Thus putting it back level. OF course this does not work if your turning sideways, where it can get a person in trouble. I do not recommend using the ACT anyway.

  • It dosen't like brick walls didn't brake strong!!!!!!!!!!

  • Haha. Neither do balsa planes or real planes for that matter. It was never designed to be flown into brick walls. LOL.

  • This plane looks like exactly what ive been looking for... thx for the video!

  • Thanks. It is definitely fun.

  • isa it posible to fly it slow, an not really fast like you do?

  • Yes it flies very nicely slow. See some of my other videos, and even the slope soaring ones for more.

  • Alright, thx nightflyyer! And one more thing... How close does Johandsom99 live to you?

  • Thanks. Eric is about 900 miles from me.

  • Fabulous. Happy flying.

  • i flew mine today again with hardly any wind

i flew it for nearly 35 minutes with only using little blips of on and off power and it glides very nicley

with some wind about upto 7mph i think you could have this flying for quite some time with only servo input and little bursts of throttle now and then

so yeah doubles as a glider lol :D

its very relaxing to watching it soar slowly and well just float around

ive not had as much fun as this with an rc plane before :)

  • Fabulous!

  • Thanks for all your advises. I am deciding between the Phantom or the Aerobird 3. I am a absolute beginner (only experience with a toy X-Twin rc plane) but as I have read stories about how fragile the Phantom boom is and that on the other hand the Aerobird 3 is very strong I tend toward the Aerobird 3. Do you recommend the Aerobird 3 as a first rc plane? Thanks!

  • They are all fragile (including the real ones if you crash) All we had years ago were balsa planes and believe me this is much stronger. I like Phantom best for beginners.

  • i dont know if anyone had noticed but the transmitter also has a built in mode switcher so if you want you can learn in mode.1 or mode.2

it helps if you are used to difrent modes of flying

ive learned in mode 1 but most usa model pilots have mode2 transmitters

i thought that was a nice feature for a low budget plane :)

  • It will never help to switch back and forth if your flying a heli, as there are 7 funtions to keep track of, switching up is not good. Europe and Asia fly mode I and Westerners fly mode II. That is so we can all help each other.

  • i have a hobbyzone super cub with atc and rudder and elevator flies awesome and nice flying Dave with your phantom

  • Thanks. The Super Cub is a great flying plane for sure.

  • Oh yea it is.Oh wait you wont believe this i got a second super cub and i painted green since its my favorite color.same controls but no ATC.flies good too

  • Lol When i first started about 5yrs ago i had one of these! i flew it and CRASHED it in to the middle of the 5 freeway in california I got it back and guess what all i had to replace was the blade and it come with a spare one!!! I LOVE THIS PLANE and now im flying F-35's at airshows and im only 15!!!

  • Far out. Glad you liked it. Flying the Real F-35 at airshows must be fabulous, since it hovers. I just did a review on a Model F-35 and sure like the way it flies too. Thanks for the comments.

  • that would be a fun plane to put ailerans on and a big brushless motor

  • I am going to get this plane. Few questions.

It's 3 channel correct? Would you reccommend keeping on the decals or taking them off? Do the AC and DC chargers charge in the same ammount of time? Is this plane alright to fly in some wind? What would you say is the max load of "things" it could carry, such as a camera, or anything at all.

    Thanks!
