  • Austin City Limints

  • Beneath it all, this song is about our common evolutionary heritage with the tomcat. Just listen to the lyrics.

  • all this banter reminds me of an old joke......how many bluesmen does it take to change a lightbulb.......15......one to change the bulb and 14 to sit around and talk about how good the old one was!!!!

  • Allen Woody!

  • OMG moustacheless Dickey!

  • I think this is from Austin City Limits...early Haynes, still lean and hungry. I dig it...

  • It's never the same thing when the brothers hit the stage you're always ready for a treat oooooooooooohhhhhhhh yeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhh

  • What?!! The Sheriff without his 'stache"?!!

  • Allen Woody , the unsung giant that was a big reason this version of the ABB had such an edge . R.I.P.

  • i think that saying one version of ABB is better than another is like saying that you like oranges better than apples. unfortunately we lost Duane and Berry and Woody, obviously they can never be replaced. I have always been a HUGE ABB fan in whatever incarnation. The original lineup is classic and the tunes they did then for the time they were in were unbelievable. Just as the band is now, unbelieveable...sorta like saying Jimi was better than SRV, at this level therre really is no" better"

  • Dickey sure is in a zone. Checking out that playing with his eyes closed. The band is hittin the note.

  • I recorded this back in the day on vhs and listened to it so many times. This was my favorite track and it introduced me to the founding members of The Mule. Warren, Matt and Woody. Thanks for posting. Dicky ain't bad either!!

  • @rockinthefirebird I'm old and remember the original band and heard them many times. Duane Allman and Dickey Betts and bass player Berry Oakely smoke anything I've heard from Derek, Warren and Otiel. Even Gregg, Butch and Jaimoe were better back then. Just listen to Fillmore East and the live tracks such as One Way Out and Trouble No More. The original band had the magic and energy and could swing like a big band that no other version of the ABB has matched to this day.

  • I love Derek Trucks playing and technically he's better than Dickie, BUT to me Dickie and Warren work better as a unit with ABB. More "organic" or something, the fit is better, also dig that 335 fat tone. Just my opinion.

  • @garyguitar I fully agree. I have seen the Allmans and Derek probably 6 times and they are incredible but Derek just looks so uninterested and unemotional. Dickie just feels like he is having fun. He is getting into the music, something I have never seen Derek do.

  • @garyguitar Maybe Dickey's drinking etc did make it impossible for Gregg and Butch to continue. As you know, they were going to quit the ABB due to Dickey and when they found out each was leaving, that is when they decided to vote out Dickey and keep the band going. But Dickey played all the ABB shows with Duane and Dickey IS the ABB much more than Warren and Derek. That is why Warren seems a better fit when you see him playing with Dickey. Dickey's departure left a huge hole in the band.

  • haha geez nice description
