Always liked this song except the line "that's the place Kennedy stayed at" always felt it would have sounded better without the "at". A very minor thing in the great scheme of life but hearing the song again for the first time in about 15 years has reminded me! We never heard of Paddy in the States, but his group is rather good. I think if they would have named the group something other than "Prefab Sprout", they may have caught on here? Sometimes weird names work, but sometimes they are just weird. The group sounds a lot better than their name applies.

I like the song a lot but the vid lets it down and fails to do it justice. It's too much of a low budget affair!

Mind you as the song is depicting the reality of how optimism, not kept in check, can be an impostor it probably works fine in others eyes!

Seriously, I would have to rate Steve McQueen as one of the best albums ever. Problem is the band never had the image of the Stone Roses or Radiohead, so they tend to get ignored by music press. But for me its part of the charm.
