3:05 - You say that the Emperor's Champion has a WS of 6, and the Ork's have a WS of 4. Why does that only increase his roll chance from a 4+ to a 3+..?
Also, you say that if any of the dice were 1's or 2's, he could re-roll thanks to "Accept Any Challenge", so doesn't that mean he can't miss..? Or I suppose he could if he rolled a 1 or 2 AGAIN, correct?
was the emperor's champion able to be singled out as a target by the attacking orcs because he was an independent character, or can that distinction always be made?
@darthkilzone it determines what you have to roll to either stun immobilize or destroy the vehicle. penetrating hits make it easier to blow up the vehicle to make it simpler

So...if it's a penetrating hit..you roll a d6 and compare it with the chart that tells you what happens to the vehicle? It seems to easy to kill my dreadnought with 3 deffkoptas then.
No reason, just wanted to do a gradual step on teaching the assault phase. Also, with that many bolterguns, there's no way that that many orks would have made it that close to the squad. So it kind of evens out.
I'm really confused about the rules for shooting at vehicles, how do you decide if something is glancing or penetrating? Also, is a dreadnought a vehicle, or something else? Me and a friend just purchased Assaul on black reach, i play the space marines, and i always feel at a disadvantage because it seems like my dreadnought is killed so quickly by the deffkoptas. A question about morale checks: when do you take them? During assault, shooting, or both? Thanks
There are way too many questions here for one comment. So I'll try to answer one
When firing at a vehicle:
1) Roll to hit the vehicle (7 - BS score when BS is 5 or lower).
2) For most weapons you roll one 6-sided die and add it to the strength of the weapon. ie, Lascannons are str 9, if you rolled a 4 you have 13. In this example, if the side of the vehicle you are firing on has armor 13 (equal to strength + d6) it's a glancing hit. If the vehicle has 12 or less it's a penetrating hit.
1d6 + (strength of attack), if it matches armor then it's a glancing, if it is over then it's a penetrating. unless it's a special weapon[melta, lance, ordinance, ap1]
No, the champion acts as his own squad until you determine the result of the assault (after initiative 1).
For clarificaion, you can find this on page 49 of the rule book... "Be aware, though, that this also means that independent characters can be targeted separately by models that are engaged with them."

because he's an independent character. In close combat, independent characters are treated like a completely different unit.

if the champion is in the SMsquad, do you not roll against the squad as a whole?
And the BT player gets to assign the wounds?
