  • this song was on saints row

  • this band kills all others when it comes to west coast rock

  • this song was one of the best songs on the game "getting up" from mark ecko. that game was awesome lolz. OMG this song is good.

  • Hell yeah. The best game ever! This was my favorite song. And "Survival of the Fittest" by: Mobb Deep.

  • cash in now honey!!!!!!!!!

  • Dave is really good with Janes Addiction

  • Band broke up 2 soon. They still had a couple of great albums in them. Perry ROCKED.

  • Thank god for L.A and the music that came outta there. Janes Addiction did it better than anyone else. Perry tapped into something BIG.

  • nooooooooooooo......guns n roses did way better

    they kicked janes addiction's ass

but janes addiction is still good

  • Your a poptart! Jane's Addiction is the most rad band ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • noo....i replied to johnnycake's post

guns n roses are more famous than janes addiction in the LA scene

  • One of the best bands ever!

One of the best songs ever!

    Janes Addiction truly rule!

    :D

  • i love rock

  • what a wicked video..

    janes addiction is true class

  • this is a baddass song

    fucking A

    janes addiction kicks ass

    >D

  • This is the most intense song for the topic of it. GOING DOWN THE MOUNTAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • the lyric is coming down the mountain

  • As I recall, John Frusciante wrote the bassline for "Ready Made."

He says so in the DVD that came with Dani California.

The verse on "Ready Made" sounds like a hybrid between "Mountain Song" and an old Deep Purple song whose name I can't recall.

  • all those who are bashing the peppers: you know nothing of music and you need to fuck off. thanks, fuck you, bye.

  • Wow, your advanced education is showing. I am assuming it was a hard three years. At least you did learn how to spell four letter words...for that, I do applaud your Third Grade teacher....

OBTW: Have fun with your continued meaningless comments to a pointless end.

Do I feel better, not really.... I just can stand the clogged communications from you 12yo mentalities....

  • Actually, Flea was on Nothing Shocking in 1988, as a guest performer, playing the trumpet. He filled in for Avery on the 1997 Kittle Whistle by request of his friend Navarro.

What is lost in the debate... this song blazed trails in alternative music (as art). beyond early Peter Green or later with RHCP.

Farrell's piercing voice and Navarro's melodious guitar riffs were perfection on Mountain Song and Ocean Size, for live performance. In short, two of the best songs for repeat listening.

  • this song was playing when my dad beat me :_(

  • how the hell is this a thumbs up?

  • i luv this song

  • RHCP stole the bass line.

This is much much better than that song.

And I don't even like Jane's Addiction that much.

  • 1 Flea was in this band and its not like readymade at all.... different style altogether. even a diferent timing....

  • No, that's just the delusion you're having as a RHCP fan.

All RHCP fans do this, as they are ravenous dogs who can not see that there is nothing inherently interesting about the band other than the fact that they jump around alot.

Also, Flea was not in the band, that was Dave Nevaro that was in RHCP, due to Fruciante chasing dragons all day and all night like the junky scum he is.

  • Ur wrong because flea was in the band in 1997... and john is an amazing guitarist and Red Hot Chili peppers are prob ONE of the greatest bands ever with amazingly talented musicians and i am very sorry that u cant see that... even tho this is a very good song readymade is nowhere nere copying it...

  • ***** sweet find.

  • i forgot where i heard this

  • maybe getting up

  • mark echo's getting up right?

    yaaaaaaah

  • This song reminds me of Rage Against The Machine.

  • you mean rage against the machine reminds you of this song!

    It came first junior!

  • oh come one the grunge alt 'movement'was a throw back to the punk movement of the 70's/80's and garage of the 60's. You also forgot to mention the early 80's bands like Mission of Burma, Husker Du, Big Black (Steve Albini I'm sure you are aware of him), I can go on and on. God I miss college radio..

  • COMIN' DOWN THE MOUNTAIN!

  • is there a clean verson of this video?

im not gay i don't like to be flashed

  • if you want the a clean version just watch a video where it's the song and just a picture

  • i miss this era ,only thing the new era has to offer is the fall out boys!!??...teeny bopper homo sissy ass limp wristed wussbag testosterone free whineing set to talentless 3 chord psuedo wannabe punk

i miss gen x....now its more like gen why bother?!

damn shame music dosent need talent today

  • seconded

  • thirded, with feelin'

  • hahaha...thanks for makeing me feel old poof....i remember buying this in 88 on a tape and playing it on a box in a 70 chev nova pos saying wtf these guys are bad ass,and are gonna be huge

wish they were together longer and had more material to offer

  • I am still trying to fathom how this was made in 1988.. This sounds alternative, a little grunge too.. Which means These guys started the alternative movement, which was halted till 1991 when Nirvana came around. I mean this song sounds like 90's alternative.. what the fuck.. Understanding this, that nothign in the 80s sounded like this, these guys did indeed start the grunge/alternative scene.. I mean no one gives them credit for that, but this is so grunge/alternative!!!!!!!

  • i mean ur forgetting some key players in the "grunge" movement that came before jane's addiction, like the wipers and pixies.. both way more talented and ahead of their time than jane's. not to mention the countless post punk/alternative acts of the 80s that if you heard today you wouldnt even recognize they came from that time period.

  • Truth. Most rock bands have been ripping off the mid to late 80's since....the early 90's. The sad thing is how it gets diluted as time goes on and the ripoffs get ripped off repeatedly. Some friends of mine were following the time-line and it ended with one throwing up his hands and yelling, "How can so many bands sound like the Violent Femmes?!".

  • But to say Jane's Addiction are rip-offs only? Three Days and Summertime Rolls are probably among my favorite songs ever. Maybe influence from good music is good, even if it's not outrageously different.

  • THIS SONG was amde in 1988?? I thought it was like 1996.. Fuckin A this was way ahead of its time... This song is still bad ass today, my God thats impossible it was made in 1988!!!

  • love it love it love it

  • I love this song. I discovered it in RB2.

  • Haha you guys are funny. I'm not jealous of people who can play it. I'm pretty good myself until I level up to hard. It's completely different from playing bass, that's for sure. I agree it's fun to play, but just because you are awesome at playing a video game doesn't mean you know anything about music or that it's anything to be impressed about.

OMG I can play "Free Bird" on 100% on Guitar Hero

OMG I can actually play "Free Bird" on guitar

    Which one sounds better? Hmmm...

  • OMG This was in Guitar Hero! JK, great song.

  • I know, right? You're not cool because you can shred on a plastic guitar. Try going out and actually learing how to play something. I've played electric bass for 7 years.

  • WORD!!!

  • Hey! Have you learned such thing as having fun?

  • Hey, have you learned of such a thing as having a life?

  • Hey! Have you learned to stop using so old and stupid arguments like that?

  • Fuck you. How's that for an old and stupid argument. Fucking Finnish bastard.

  • Finland rules, don't fuck with 'em.

  • Maybe you're right. They like Conan O'Brien so that's good cuz Conan is the man. He looks like your prime minister.

  • Nope, It's teh President :D

  • janes are the fucking the best i heard this song on kerrang once and said thats fucking catchy, then i heard it on marc eckos getting up and thought bloody hell didnt know it was that popular and btw to thoughs who say having mountain song on gh4 keep in mind stop was in gh2 nothing really happened to it tbh but kids running around thinking they amazing cauz they can do play gh need to think twice and try playing real guitar like dave navarro or jimi hendrix then tell me if u still think ur good

  • Thing is, alot of famous guitarists cant play GH because its completely different. People who are proud of being good at GH arent saying they are good at playing a guitar, they are saying they are good at GH, a completely different experience. Kind of obvious and somewhat redundant. -_-

  • esta chevere el video

  • Good song though, and a great band. I hear they're back together and there's rumors about a tour this summer. That'd be awesome, especially since STP did one last summer. Just goes to show the 90's ain't dead yet.

  • If I hear one more person go "OMG this is in Guitar Hero" I will blow my God damn brains out. Seriously, just because you play GH doesn't mean you know shit about music. Nobody cares about how well you can 100% it. Get a life and maybe some friends.

  • mate, guitar heros a fun game, but thats all it is, if it can get people into music that thats great, its great fun at partys and sleepovers so i think someones a bit jeslous they dont have it to be honest

  • i got gh 3 i want 4 but am just saying, but im a drummer so lol

  • OMG this is in Guitar Hero!

  • My band have been covering this song in our regular set list for ages, and now people are starting to actually recognise it because of Guitar Hero WT. Weird. Felt like slapping them with a copy of Nothing's Shocking and going "listen to that, you little bitches." Still, kudos to the people at Neversoft for knowing a decent tune to put in their game when they hear one, and if it means Jane's get a whole new generation of fans, then I'm all for it.

  • grea t band Shame they got sucked into the whole Guitar hero craze ....

Nw posers are gonna be like Yea Janes addiction .....

    Way before there time

  • God damn....Nothings Shocking and Ritual De Lo Habitual are absolutely amazing. I haven't talked to Navarro or Farrell in for nearly 4 years now....damn.

  • whats that thing at 0:25 haha

  • angelo moore from fishbone is 1:26

  • Then why are you watchin' this?

  • he probably watched "spoony's" review on rockband and guitar hero.

  • READYMADE???

  • FUZZYSHA,

my thoughts exactly, but this song came first ;) (however, that doesn't stop both of the songs from being great tunes)

  • haha what does this song have to do with guitar hero?? TALK ABOUT THE SONG hahaha

  • It's in Guitar Hero World Tour, that's what it has to do with Guitar Hero.

  • oh thanks lol that just stopped the confusion

  • The music industry is probably screwed if it takes video games for people to find good music.

  • Fuck, I hate when kids play guitar hero and shit and think they are rock stars and shit. And when they hear good music for the first time on it and call it gay and for faggots? All of you who say that shit dont know music! For others who play those games and dont think their so great dont bother flaming and saying you dont think that I could care less im talking about the fucking morons who do. I dont know what i'm trying to say here but fuck dumb kids!

  • i think its alright when you're a kid (5-16 i guess) but when you're an adult, and you only know songs because of GH, then that's pretty fucking pathetic. and BTW this song isnt on guitar hero

  • Yeah it is its on guitar hero world tour. and i also think its on marc ecko's getting up lol

  • OMG i love that game!!

  • lol ye i agree. btw it is on GH world tour ( the new one)

  • I only know certain songs from Guitar Hero, but certainly not all of them. I play Guitar Hero, and I'm good at it. But I also play real guitar, so I can act like a rockstar all I want. :P

  • dude, it's just a fucking game. Get over yourselves. It's not like it's disrespecting real musicians. It's just for fun.

  • can some one tell me what that is at 26 seconds?

  • DAVE Smokes on this one and they hardly show him...bullshit

  • luv this

    fucking the dick below me

  • i mean FUCK him

  • you are a gay faggot for even saying that! rockband? are you fucking kidding me dude? go play your fucking toy so we can enjoy good music

  • you said it! couldn't have said it better!

  • thats why rockband and guitar hero are a billion dollar market.

  • and your point is...? if playing plastic make believe guitars actually makes you feel like you've accomplished something worthwhile, then it's a sad world for us all...

  • whoa so readymade by RHCP is a rip off cause of the intro bass line

  • Yeah, when I first heard this I was like wait... wrong video? =] Both absolutely incredible bands though

  • good song

  • this song changed everything

  • blah blah blah yall stale

  • My English teacher referred to this song today in class (we were discussing Lord of the Flies and she goes, "So then everybody's coming down the mountain, you know, like Jane's addiction? 'I'm comin' down the mountain...") and everyone except me just gave her a blank look and I'm like, "Yeah, I know what you're talking about. I like that song." And she goes, "God, you're the only one who ever gets my musical taste! We should make CDs for each other!"

I thought it was funny & wanted to share.

  • yeah yeah..skip the 1000 words per min..you get lucky?

  • Um, no. She didn't make me any CDs yet, if that's what you're asking.

  • err?..sure

  • Lol!

  • epic. bahahahahahahahahaha.

  • wow, you must have the coolest english teacher ever!

  • Yeah, I do have the coolest Englsh teacher ever.

And in eighth grade I had the coolest history teacher ever! He grew up around the East Bay punk scene in the 80s (California), and he's into punk bands like The Clash, Social Distortion, Rancid, Operation Ivy, etc.

I've left comments aout that teacher on videos for some of the above-mentioned bands. (I have a habit of paying homage on the Internet to teachers with good music taste.) LOL.

  • y do fuckin fags get on here adn message eachother when these r supposed to be vid comments...btw this is a kickass song!!!

  • I couldn't agree more.

  • 19-F-hottie here. I'm just saying that girls LOVE this vid. a

  • Just me brazuca from here, has only American

  • At the time of this video, every member except Eric Avery were full blown heroin addicts

  • That's total bullshit

  • that opening bass song is so awesome!

  • I don't know if anyone has mentioned this on here before, but the bass line in this song and the bass line in the Red Hot Chili Pepper's song 'Readymade' is very close. Except RHCP's a little faster. Just an observation

  • and the both having at little ahhh! spot where the song starts haha

  • I think RHCP's Readymade was a remake of this song. Not only is the bass the same but it starts very similarly.

  • it does remind me of it but the bass line isn't the same or even close to being the same

  • Yeah you're right. I'd what was up with me when I listened to it lol.

  • Just an observation, huh? Go look up the clip for "Oh Well" by the Peter Green Fleetwood Mac. Janes Addiction ripped a 20-year-old riff and made it into the hardest song of the 80's.

  • Well I guess all great musicians get inspiration from great music from back in the day!

  • True dat!

  • Hard day at the office, li'l queenie jake?

  • yeah it sure sucks having free medicare, a stable economy and being able to walk outside without getting shot by a middle-schooler

  • lol

  • lmao

  • great artists dont borrow, they steal

  • Shut up asshole. Stop talking and start reading.

  • brianjonestownmassacre= shit. is your handle based on that? is this the infamous front man himself. i guess heroin didnt do the job. quit being a pussy about it and get it over with right-shoot yourself.

  • its almost verbatum but flea tweaked it a little. i dont really consider it a rip tho, because both rhcp and ja traded members for a while... i think theyre cool with it.

  • You're not getting it, mizfit. It's not Janes Addiction who have to be "cool with it" because they ripped off the song in the first place from Peter Green. They even admitted it later on. Check out the clip to "Oh Well" and you'll even see a version played by Jimmy Page and the Black Crowes.

  • uh your the real idiot. "shite" is the past tense of "shit"

    no, really lol

  • cunt

  • best song ever

  • This video is pixelating on my computer-how is this HQ video?

  • "ur computer is shite" What kind of a stupid illiterate comment is this? Do you mean "your computer is shit"? My computer is not shit, none of my computers are shit. The sound is fine but the video is pixelated. Who are you to even commenty on my computer? Your writing skills are shit. Why do idiots always post illiterate replies to my comments? If you spend so much time on the net, use it for teaching yourself how to read and write.

  • I love you

  • Ahhhh! someone's going all teacher on me!

  • That was beautiful.

  • ferrall*

  • that's just coz he has his tongue in Dave Navarro's mouth.

  • perry ferral is sexy..thats all i have 2 say

  • Dave Navarro is a god

  • dude i just got your e-mail, wtf? have you gone to any of the cities??? they have DISTURBED dude! Frickin disturbed! and guns n roses!!! best guitarist ever! SLASH MAN! GET SOME TASTE.

  • Which GnR song? If you mean the new one, I don't think that is slash.

  • It's not- It's Buckethead.

Still a pretty damn good song.

Also, Mountain Song is amazing. 5*

  • are you kidding? compared to some of the pure garbage they have on RB2, this was like a golden respite.

  • omg you should be dead now

  • it would be a better world if he was.

  • i cant believe YOU made it to the game and play it..

  • Anthony Ciccolini I know that you are out there- and I love you more than life itself and please come to Canada to find me- its T

Please find me in Canada- I need you so badly

dont believe the lies that people feed you...I NEED you

  • if you scroll down there are sooo many long comments lol :)

  • was flea in this band?

  • Yes, he was. He made a guest appeareance on their "Nothing's Shocking" album and he toured with them on their 1997 reunion tour.

  • The intro reminds me of readymade by the red hot chili peppers.

  • reminds me of have a cigar by Pink Floyd and the foos cover of it even more

  • Everyone in africa does have AIDS... totally kidding. I agree. Guitar Hero and Rock Band are preserving so many great songs/artists. If a few people thikn they're gods, so what? They'll realize they were assholes about it and they'll move on. It's all good fun.

  • best opinion ive read on that whole situation.. well done! :)

  • No one that plays Guitar Hero goes out and plays live Guitar Hero gigs. That's not the point. As previously stated, it's a SIMULATION. When someone buys Guitar Hero, they don't think "OH MAN! NOW I'M GONNA BE A ROCKSTAR AND GET FAMOUS!" in a similar fashion that no one that buys Call Of Duty 4 thinks "NOW I'M GONNA GO INTO A REAL WAR!" NO ONE thinks that they're amazing at real guitar because they play Guitar Hero. NO ONE thinks they're actual rockstars.

  • Oh really? I for instance read once that some teenagers had gone out and spray painted graffiti on walls because they had done that in GTA: San Andreas. People can get crazy by games and there sure are people who has played Guitar Hero and thought of themselves like being rockstars. There are always people like that.

  • All right, but not ALL OF US. That's a sweeping generalization, just like saying everyone in Africa has AIDS.

As for ruining songs, I used to think it did kinda ruin them (THE COVERS WERE HORRID), but ever since artists have been lending their own master tracks for the game, I have reason to believe that they think Guitar Hero is saving their music from what would be extinction. I wouldn't have known this song if I didn't see it on the Guitar Hero 4 setlist and wondered how it sounded.

  • thats inevitable with anything.. like columbine being blamed on marilyn manson, its just stupidity!

  • Then, those poeple are called retards and we can't help it.

  • GH:WT and Rock Band 2!

Will be sweet in both games!

  • No it wont. those games ruin really good songs and generate millions of wanna bes. LAME

  • Agree. A friend of mine said that he can do Slayer's "Raining Blood" on the highest level perfectly and he was so glad. I said "Yeah, try to pick up a real guitar and play it for real!". Guitar Hero makes people who can't even play, that they're some kind of rockstars.

  • While GH doesn't compare to a real guitar, it is quite fun for lots of people

  • "Guitar Hero makes people who can't even play, that they're some kind of rockstars."

That's the point. It's a rockstar simulation game.

I'm pretty sure since you know how to play guitar you're some sort of rock star, huh?

  • No, that doesn't mean that I'm a rockstar at all. My point was that guitar hero can make some people think that they really are rockstars when the can't even play a note. I do play guitar (mostly drums though) but I wouldn't call myself a rockstar. If you can understand my point now, then you should know that the only way to become a real guitar hero is by playing a real guitar, not a TV game.

  • You can't say it does that to everyone >_>. I play it for a little bit of competitiveness and fun, and I actually play a violin as well (and an electric one, which can have distortion), so don't stereotype all GH players off of your friends and people you've seen I guess is what I'm saying.
