  • In 1955 Johnny looked young but now he looks like 40 odd, is this video when he was taking drugs?

  • I have no idea where these DVDs are getting WKIE from. No such station ever existed in Canada. No station starting with W in the call sign has ever existed in Canada. Nice clip, though.

  • the "I Got Stripes" performance is badass, he gives it attitude and charisma

  • Johnny is the best

  • I GOT STRIPES

  • gutes video

  • That day is not far away, try some heroin bro.

  • Only temporary

  • It's amazing that such a great song like "I Got Stripes" can come out of such minimalist open chord progressions. The vocals, lead guitar, bass and drum beat just all seem to fall in line.

  • You are right! This is actually very simple beat music with 3 guitar chords, but the amazing precise skills of Marshall Grant and Luther Perkins and Johnny Cash's emotional performances made this music better then any of the overdubbed hip hop jumpin-'round girlie bands "singing" playback and so on: This here is real talent and will last forever, but most of todays music will go down the river after a short while, I think.

    Johnny Cash 4-ever!

  • well said

  • Thank you.

  • Hye bloody was he took drugs in 1956

  • Is he high?

  • no he started using drugs in 1960 this is 1959 i beileve?

  • Johnny startet using drugs as soon he became famous (1956). He had already begun taking drugs at this recording. My guess is that he's flying high during this video ;)

    R.I.P Johnny Cash

  • I thought he did in the 60s becuase he dosnt look skinny or tired in the video?

  • @promagnum: Yeah, W.S. Holland joined him later, but if you look at the "I got stripes THP" video around here on youtube, you will see he played with the rockabilly drummer.

I think this is the same time in which also the very famous "Big River" video was shot.

  • but that rockabilly drummer on THP is NOT W.S. It's someone else. The one here is W.S.

  • Also, Luther was playing a red Jaguar. Jaguars weren't introduced until 1962.

  • And WKIE sounds like an American call sign. Canadian stations start with C

  • You may be right. I'm going of what it says on the DVD "The Legends Of Rock And Roll".

  • I looked on Google and in 1959 there was a Canadian station with a W call sign.

  • MY FATHER

  • Well should be at least at autumn or winter 1959, because he is little high and moves his head all the time. In the '59 THP videos he doesn't do that yet.... Sad story, but his "rebirth" brought him back as a completely new guy, with completely new convictions and that's what made him the legend he still is. I love Johnny Cash!

  • But look how thin he is. He's a toothpick here. Plus, the drummer didn't join him until 1960.

  • This isn't from 1959. It's from 1961, about the time he released his second gospel album.

  • That's great. In this "hammond-organ" the time and the atmosphere is reflected- I don't know how to describe that lol--- I love it.

  • U can see it! Love him still!

  • this is when he was addicted

    to anphetamines
