Didn't like this version. The acting is could and slow. Despite Netrebko's beauty, I prefer the version interpreted by Cecilia Bartoli (not so beautiful) as Susanna, found here on YouTube, too.
SNORE! This interpretation is horrible, and the staging is AWFUL. I also watched the first scene of the first act with the same people and it was BAD. Why the heck would the whole opera take place in a freaking stairway? Why does the Count look like Frankenstein? Why do they make out at the end of the scene? She doesn't like the guy. Do they know what they're singing about? Why is it so sloooow. Nothing like the same scene interpreted by Miah Persson and Gerald Finlay, also on youtube
The best version of this scene is the one with MIah Persson, the scene is so seducing and I think she managed very well to show the real feelings and intentions of Susanna...She's the best, I loved her in Così fan tutte, the best Fiordiligi ever...her italian is perfect too, many singers can't sing well in italian you can hear they're strangers but she's perfect!!!!!
You are so right, the acting is outstanding, how she not only sings beautifully but really uses the grips the words to express herself , goes for all the singers in this free flying prod.
Ah, Opera to me was just strange noise untill i saw Miah as Susannah. She manages to sing like an angel while really acting the part, - it makes it so much more interesting to watch. And it makes it so much easier to see just how exelent mozart has written the music to match the story being told. Miah really opened a new world to me! :-D
if you really like her as much as I do you should really see her Fiordiligi in Così fan tutte, i think she's the best in this role, and also her Poppea in Agrippina by handel...she opened a whole new world to me too!!!!
I shall. But - not speaking italian - i have to do a lot of reading to understand a opera. I consentrate on one at the time. But i bet her performance in Figaro can't possibly be done better ;-)
Ok, clarification: the Count did proposition her for naughty things in the garden, and the Countess and her have arranged to "consent" with this, in order to catch him. Susanna does not want this, but, she does it out of loyalty to her Mistress and friend.
This scene is conducted far too gravely. It's supposed to be light and funny, about tricking the count into believing that Susanna wants him.Anna's voice is beautiful, but the Count is scooping all over the place, and it's too damn serious.
Beautifully sung, but what the hell is with this slutting-up of Mozart (the end of this duet, the ends of the F/Fr duet in Cosi)? The only Mozart opera that should be smutty is Don Giovanni!
Seriously if you had read and understood the words of this opera you would know Mozart did not write the lyrics they were written by Mozart's librettist, Lorenzo da Ponte.
Slutty ruth thank goodness for people like you anyone that knows Mozart knows he had a real sense of the crude and quite a scatalogical sense of humour as did all his family !!!!!!!!!!
Yeah, that's the one I meant, but that one actually grew on me a bit. DaPonte probably actually meant for Fiordiligi and Ferrando to go off and "do it" at the end of that duet, so I don't have as much of a problem with it now. This, though...
canto complessivamente di buon livello, interpretazione pessima, soprattutto mai vista una Susanna tanto inespressiva

Beide sind so langweilig, aber er hat eine besonders nichtssagende Stimme und Ausstrahlung.

What an awful version of this. The acting and singing is making me cringe. And so slow!!! Thomas Allen and Peter Mattei do it so much better!

He has such a boring voice, which is really hard to hear anyway.

Netrebko is not my favourite Rosina, a little too dark for that role....

@ElisabettaVS Rosina is the countess ... Obviously, Anna is singing Susanna ...

@JericClage Which is what I meant, but my mind was a bit twisted up! ;)

Hm, interesting concept. Nothing light and enyoable in this interpretation. Lots of passion though. I like it.

Susanne - Anna Netrebko
Conte - Bo Skovhus
Contessa (in background) - Dorothea Röschmann
Director: Claus Guth
Conductor: Nikolaus Harnoncourt

Who is singing, who is conducting? Could you please include it in the video information? ^^

Harnoncourt is a disaster, the director deserves to be shooted, the singers... well, better if I stop here.

Way too slow!!! I agree: boring, boring. This should sparkle like champagne, and instead it sounds so flat.

boring, slow,

I agree. Netrebko appears to sing every role with the similar way. No so much expression or acting . Very boring for me.

I understand, for me it's the same with french and german operas, and I totally agree with you when you say her Susanna is the best!

Netrebko needs to stop shoving her tongue so far back in her mouth. Her purposly darkening her voice is getting VERY annoying.

Same here. I thought that production was off with the whole "going into a room" bit but I ended up dropping $40 to buy that DVD. XD
But yeah. This one is just whack. Susanna isn't supposed to be a slut.
