OK, toesterface, let me break it down for you.

Martin Landau, is basically Beast where as Shirley Knight - the pretty blond - is basically beauty. He can use his magical powers to make her and others, see the man inside. At the lakeside, she informs him that she is getting married to the soldier. At the wedding, the Beast tries to kill the soldier for taking beauty where his spell is dropped and everyone sees him as the beast. Beauty chases and kisses the beast restoring his natural form.
