  • A great idea is a Bad Boss web site I found. The only problem is that, so far, not one of the bully bosses I've had is listed on it. If we could check such a site before we accept a job, we could avoid the problem! But, it seems, people won't do it!

Another bonus is that, just think, these creeps would have a very hard time getting another job!

  • One more thing, this former nasty boss of my mother's said to her, during a confrontation about being undermined, "you need this job." My mother replied, "I need A job, not THIS one." The boss' reaction was to say, "you frost my ass." My mother finally got her transfer.

  • My mother tried transferring to a different dept several times to get away from a nasty female boss, but the boss kept scoring her a few points shy to allow it. My mother finally confronted her about the sabotage and said she'd was going to make it impossible to be given anything but a perfect score. The boss knew SHE was on notice and gave my mother a perfect score. My mother laughed saying she was always a good worker, so she didn't even do anything differently.

  • Okay bullied people, no more fear. Buy a gun and shoot the bully in the face OR for more laughs, shoot them in a non-lethal area and watch them double over in pain. Problem solved and you can enjoy family members cry over their worthless family member's life. Go beyond the norm!

I cannot believe people tolerate this crap.

  • This was and Excellent discussion on Workplace bullying, we need to join the revolution, and make sure that we get information out, and bills/laws passed ( HB2142 ) that will make it illegal to bully, and be equal to the existing harassment laws.

  • I was bullied and yelled at buy a secretary in my office. Her supervisor ran way during the incident. I completed a workplace verbal violent incident report. My employer, called my union rep and I to a fact finding meeting. It was held a few days before Christmas. The employer continued monthly meetings ( I called them whippings). These were held to improve my attitude and work. Co-workers were called to report I me, the stress of these monthly meeting cased sick leave, I was forced to retire.

  • All of this is unfortunately very true.

  • Take action against workplace bullying. Management will not solve this problem. They are the problem. Politicians and lawmakers have to take action. Canvas them. There are petitions available through the internet. Find live petitions against workplace bullying and sign them. Alternatively submit your own petition.

  • My advise to anyone who is experiencing workplace bullying are below:

    * Record each issue in a diary (what was it / date / people involved / time etc).

    * Bullies like control, find a way to let them know that he/she certainly does not.

    * Confront the bully - I certainly caught my bully right off guard (I actually made her cry)

    * State what you WILL do if it continues.

Much love to all who must tolerate foolishness like this.

  • Yeah, well, they cry crocodile tears. Mine did. Then she was up to her old tricks again.

  • I have a real frustration towards workplace bullies - I've been a victim of workplace bullying.

This man is correct and the findings are interesting. Bullies will tend to target those who have no real desire to retaliate. This is what I was typically like throughout the vast majority of what I encountered then finally - I managed to accumilate enough energy to confront this woman. She didnt like it.

  • everything discussed in this video I went through. The part that pissed me off was i had to be forced into the two women going at it crap for his entertainment and the other woman was the H R who I went to ask for help and it was also found out thanks to her, that my money wasn't being paid to me right. that is when the poor performing employee with the same H R helping him, and the deceptive boss wins

  • god bless all of you. I plan to fight mine because it wasn't until after I was fired that I, after 2 weeks of requesting documents I found out how much documentation used on me including his usage of unproven documentation from a campus police, and the H R who was to help me until skeletons out of the boss's closet, had to turn against me and help them and turn me into a poor worker and I was fired in less than 2 weeks, (but not before making sure they had work issues written against me.

  • HR IS A PART OF THE PROBLEM!! They're part of the structure where the abuse is happening therefore invested in keeping any bad publicity far away by encouraging the victim to quit their job vs actually protecting the victim LIKE THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO DO!!

  • I quit my job of 11.5 years in October 2008, even though I had no job prospects. The place I worked in was, get this, a nationally-based non-profit health care association. To make a very long story short, the HR department was a _significant_ part of the reason why I left. Workers like me who faced health issues (ironic), were harassed by the HR department for specific details about their health conditions. The stand notes from doctor's office visits were not enough for them. (continued)

  • (con't) The absolutely serious problem that I had, along with the harassment, was that the HR director was/is not to be trusted, because he would go to the VP of Administration (his supervisor) with details about employees. For example, he was known for standing around other people, and reporting what he saw or herd to this VP.

This VP, through the HR director, would relentlessly threaten workers with disciplinary action. Some of my colleagues were harassed at home while recovering (con't)

  • from cancer, and one person felt threatened to return to work after surgery from a brain aneurysm. This is in the United States by the way. This is definitely a case of where the HR department is part of the problem!

  • WhimsicalXray I'm so sorry you had to go through this, I'm dealing with the same thing right now its also in health care I'm finding health care workplaces have a lot of this I can't figure out why, I'm not in the US I'm in Canda. I quit after almost 12 years and have a lawyer now, what I've found out by him is that they broke a lot of l employment standard laws so my law suit just might help others left behind since they will be require to correct these issues, so I'm happy about that. (cont)

  • @phwebbie , Hi Phwebbie, when you say the broke laws, what kind of laws? I would like to know, I am going through the same thing, and would like to be able to articulate this type of behavior, that can eventually help me to secure a lawyer that would want to work with me. Please help.

  • Maybe your complaint can make them correct some of their problems and help the staff left behind, also I fnd it very helpful that I fighting back and that I have a lawyer that believes me and is not putting me down for speaking my mind. I hope all is well for you now.

  • HR are nothing but professional bully enablers.

  • Workplace bullying is rampant. If you or someone you know is being bullied visit OvercomeBullyingDOTcom for more information and resources.

  • I just went through it. and then when you bust them they then want to call you the police and they get to take up for the employee.

  • the workplace is a warzone. I am a warrior a surviver and i show bullies no mercy.

  • I have an audio recording of one of these bullies badgering me in a meeting. I turned it over to the top manager as evidence of my predicament. This manager did nothing but look the other way & has continued to let these monsters victimize me. I even gave this manager articles written by Dr Namie regarding exactly what was happening to me, yet still I am the bad, incorrigible employee giving everyone a hard time. I am out on leave d/t my miscarriage & don't know how I can make myself go back.

  • I am a victim of workplace bullying. I am only months away from retirement so I can't just leave. I recently went all the way to the top for help only to be thrown right back into the snakepit. Because I went for help, I was retaliated against. I was reassigned from a job I liked into a less-desirable position in which I have no control or say in. The work is done the bully's way or no way. I recently miscarried & can't help but think that the extreme stress & anxiety were direct contributors.

  • Wow! this is what happened to me all 4 types rolled into two people. The serial bully and his hench-man. 2 years later I still am only getting to grips what exactly happened. Advice document everything. The only thing that stopped completely going insane was I found hard evidence of the actual sabotaging of my work.

  • Drs. Namie have done so much to help and I appreciate them so, so very much! There's one thing I think may be holding us back - the word "bullying", I think it should be called terrorism.

Please sign the Anti-bullying Healthy Workplace Bill petition. I can't put a URL on here so please go to MySpace and search for mary_kirk (don't forget the underscore). You can follow the link from there. My thoughts and experiences are on my blog.

    Thank you!

  • Bullies are PSYCHOPATHS.

HR don't want to get involved, they always support what management want, which unfortunately is 'warp it up asap' by getting rid of weakest link. So they end up sabotaging the greivance process to make it worse. The bullies always win, as they know how to play the game, backstabing & spread slander about the victim to the point where people start to believe the bully, resulting in the victim leaving. It's about time Pyschologists are bought into the workplace to help.

  • I do confront them and that works, but the women I'm dealing with are stupid--any chance they get they start the same dumb stuff all over again. Over and over and over. It has become so boring to me I just ignore it and I feel nothing but pity them.

  • I hear ya! Keep a journal and if they try to accuse you of anything, you have backup--what they did and what they said.

  • Wow! He nailed you guys. Ha! HB 2142 2008!

  • My boss keeps lying to me all the time. She changes procedures right on the spot without conferring with me, and yells at me if I'm not up to date with what she has made up in her head. She tells me that I have not made any improvement since I started 5 months ago (she calls it 7 months) even though I have fixed many of her own mistakes. Tomorrow I go back to work, and I feel sick.

  • This described what happened to me to a tee, I unfortunately couldn't take it anymore and watching it be done to other people for five years made me ashamed I hadn't said something sooner. I'm hoping my actions now help, but reporting it did nothing and the people there are so fearful of this person they just take it. I have never seen amything like it but if my awareness can help even one person I will have felt my leaving was not in vain.

  • bullying is a huge problem that will never go away. quitting a job is a short term solution because their will be another bully awaiting you at your next job. the problem is you. learning ways to deal with bullying is the best course of action. hr and eeoc will actually recommend that you sit down with the bully to iron things out. that's counterproductive because the bully will never admit to bullying and will later continue it on more subtle ways.

  • stewarts said: "the problem is you." what kind of BULLSHIT is that?? The problem is the bully, and management's greed and lack of proper action, moron. And it's much, much more that 37% or 49%. I hope in the end God puts these bullying LOSERS in their place.

  • Your words are my thoughts exactly!

  • I feel so bad for everyone who is dealing with this. Because I know the feeling oh so well. Too well. It's not your/our fault. Try your best to hang in there. I believe in the end it will all get worked out. Peace all.

  • "the problem is you" is really unhelpful here! Haven't you ever heard the expression "there is always a bigger bully"? I have been able to stand up to everyone my whole life, but now I seem to have a bit of a predicament with my boss and I'm left in a weak position because of the threat of redundancies. I know for a fact that I do a good and fair job. The problem is nothing to do with me!

  • The only SOLUTION is sticking up for yourself, as I am doing now at my job. You can't let their titles scare you. You deserve to be treated with respect just like they demand it. Sticking up for your self (in a professional manner) is key here. Especially with someone who tries to micromanage you. Don't be scared to speak your mind.

  • Boy can I relate to this. I have experienced severe bullying with 4 former employers. All of those bullies were new young female supervisors. I now know why they target me. I am very quiet and non confrontational. I fear standing up to them. I have also found out that reporting them does no good and will cause you your job.I am depressed and have lost all confidence in myself due to these people!

  • It's more than 37% my friends. Much more.

  • noobs!

  • This is such a problem because lawmakers don't want to ruffle the feathers of corporate america. Big business has way too much power over the citizen's rights. I'm not a huge fan of unions, they too are just a bureaucracy but the workers have to suffer the abuse and retaliation to earn a living. All of my coworkers, except for one is a bully. In lieu of NAFTA, offshoring, hiring foreign labor, illegal immigration, contractors and temp workers - employment laws need to be updated very badly.

  • This is a huge probelm at work place of today. Please share some ways to tackle the problem . I am facing a very difficult situation at work.

  • I have been a victim of mobbing and "freezing out". At the time I thought it was only me but this video has really put my past situations into perspective. Thank you.

  • Thank you for going public with this problem.
