any time you make a story about immortals the music is important; Rockstar was smart, with their GTA games? They SATURATED the games with music from the era, both Vice City games had 80's tracks, San Andreas had craploads of early 90's music. Visually, stylistically, the series actually surpasses the first movie, however it comes out awful because of the mistake of not using period music enough.

I didn't quite get what it was, which made subsequent Highlander's so awful while the first movie was tolerable, then, I figured it out; its the music. Queen did a good job; again they seem to combine classical conventions using modern instruments, creating (more or less) a sense of timelessness. I'm not saying they were using electric guitars in Renaissance era Scotland, I'm just saying, the music conveys that.

I think the first highlander movie was a wee bit more than just tolerable. Cinematography was great, the acting was ok and the story was not hair brained. The other movies were just cheap attempts to ride the original's coat tails.

@williamskidfears don't know man, some of the dudes Duncan dropped in the series were pretty evil, and better actors than Adrian Paul himself. The first Highlander is a good movie only because it does everything right regarding how to portray an immortal, namely all the sad loneliness. Can you imagine never aging? Watching everyone around grow old but you remaining the same?

@williamskidfears regarding the Kurgan, to me he was the most realistic character. Who says he started out evil? The Kurgan of Highlander belonged to a Russian people known as the Scythians, savage cousins of the Slavs, the word "Kurgan" was a word for their graves. The Kurgan is in fact an ancient Russian, no doubt said nationality was deliberately chosen given the political climate of the 80's.

@williamskidfears I more or less agree; the villain makes the story, and subsequent actors did not capture what's his faces contempt for normal people. The Kurgan can not be killed unless you behead him, and he knows it, its why he's such an asshole to mortal humans.

@williamskidfears what makes immortals dangerous in the highlander universe, is the fact that as swords fell by the wayside in warfare, normal people who could fight immortals died along the way. Meanwhile immortals only sharpen their skills across centuries, and retain the iron willpower of whatever era they were born into. Think man; everything boils down to will, and people have gotten weak. Think of how tough your own grandpa is.

its all about the music; the reason subsequent Highlander's fail, is because they lack proper music. Queen's form of rock was pretty unique, you can't really classify it, its not grunge, its not metal, its not 80's hair even its almost like they are trying to play classical music using modern instruments, it sounds really weird.

you don´t know that when Freddie saw the movie to make the sound track, he already knew he has AIDS, and he got not so much time to live.

Thats why this is one of a kind album. You can see his eyes, they are not like in the past videos. Must be incredible painfull to have to write songs about being inmortal when you know certainly you re about to death pretty soon... How ironic is the live.

NO, in 1985/86 he didn't know about his HIV-infection, that was just the time he caught the virus.

In 85/86 QUEEN was absolutely on top but they were tired and wanted to take a break, with solo-projects (think about Barcelona!) and just hanging around and watch their children growing up.

Remember Freddie's change of focus from Munich back to London/GardenLodge and to Jim - no thought of dying.
