I just got done watching SEED Destiny. and to be honest I really enjoyed this.. granted I didn't like Shin's character, but I don't think we werent supposed to.. lol..
granted the sequel isn't as good as seed.. regardless it was a GREAT series!
There were flaw with seed destiny, at the beginning I felt like they were trying mimic the original but once they really got into the story, it really came out of its shell and became its own series! I think the main antagonist played a big role in that.

Did you not hear about Morosawa crapping on Shinn's character because she hated the VA...She also hated Cagali's and look what happened to her...Did you not know GSD was nearly pulled off the air because of script problems from Morosawa? All these things contributed to bad writing and under-development of Shinn...
@Wingslash My thoughts exactly. The complete lack of development for Shinn, Rey or any person from Minerva in the second part of the series resulted in a total and utter crapfest. The studio decided to focus on characters that have no room for improvment, like godly jesus or The Queen of The Universe instead of developing book-set examples of fall before your rise Shinn.

Hi there :) It's been long since I've watched this video but hey. I just don't understand why do people HATE the show. Is it because people misunderstood almost everything about it? If You look at it like on a something to spend those 12 hours and HAVE FUN (And think while watching) while watching it and beeing able to watch Your favourite characters all over again in a new story You CAN'T go wrong with it... Or maybe it is because i got to see Athrun and Kira again...Don't understand me wrong, I've seen all of gundam series and read the crossbone, 00 manga and so on...And got to the UC stuff after wing, 00 and seed and i Admit there are better ones than Destiny, but no one will force me to dislike Destiny because the story works for me just fine-as fan of returning characters.

I feel that GSD made very little effort emphasizing Shinn's character (besides the tragic scene at the beginning.) from the very beginning, as the important scenes were always with Athrun and Cagalli, and at certain points, Neo. So, I really felt Shinn was of little to no importance to the plot from the get-go, which was okay because I loved the characters from SEED. As for Shinn being "emo" during his scenes, I thought that's realistically realized. Likeable? Probably not, but believable.

I've watched this video just now, catching up on the comments and the such, and am surprised how many meaningful comments were flagged as spam. The flagged comments include those that favor the show with valid reasonings, and those which merely had fruitful discussions that don't necessarily favor the show. My opinion of Seed Destiny notwithstanding, flagging said comments such as "I actually like Seed Destiny" is not the way to debate.
"Master"Tomino totally reformed the mecha concerpt.After his reforn,mecha became a reference not just a segment.In MY opinion.the most inportant element that he created,is that,no matter how inportant a certain chacacter is to the show,he is still a person,he can be beatable,and also,the realism in mecha desing,and also deeply worked characters.
And Gundam Seed,trows all that to the garbage,whit its EMO whining,and unbeatable mecha/pilots,and unrealistc mecha specs,
While I do like Gundam Seed, I just really hated Seed Destiny since that show has too much flaws with its story, animation, character writing, etc. I don't mind if people like Destiny but making a video about how people are wrong for hating Destiny is quite redundant if you ask me.

Then you must also know that Newtype is a third party magazine no different from other western anime magazine except its from Japan, and as such their articles can be (and have been) wrong?

My final thought is GSD is the product of incredibly lazy and piss poor writing. I have no problems with fan service, awesome mechs and battles and bad ass characters. This show is a product of too much of everything and not enough of its own material. The first Seed took nods to the first Gundam show with mech designs, story and character nods but Destiny is just the creators taking ANYTHING of the old and slapping it in for NO REASON. A Golden colored gundam, Zakus, and a Kamille clone
The fact is they introduce Shinn in the first episode and not reintroduce Kira until MUCH later tells me that we should pay attention to Shinn. This is HIS show but I feel that it is lazy writing that is why they brought back Arthrun and Kira and gave them super powers. They were powerful aces before but in this show it is stupid powerful. Kira runs through EVERYONE. They made an extended final episode with the OP that is sucking Kira's dick about how awesome he is and how Shinn is this crybaby
I know this has been said before, but I honestly didn't like the character development and the pace of this show. By the middle of this series, I was wondering who is supposed to be the main character here? Is it Kira? Is it Arthrun? Is it Shinn? At first I thought it was Shinn but then Kira shows up mid way into the show and steals his thunder and suddenly Shinn turns from kid with a chip on his shoulder and traumatic past to Anakin Skywalker a la SW EP III. He just got on my nerves
There are bigger issues in life than to continue arguing over an anime series that's already over. What's the point of dragging on these debates? It's not like the outcome of the series is going to suddenly change.
People need to just move on and enjoy what they like. Whether you like the series or not, that's fine; move on, but don't put others down just because they have a different view of it.

@Arcemise - I also agree with you that Shinn in Destiny had what Kira had in Seed but Kira´s character story was much more well written compared to Shinn´s in the first place which made me dislike Shinn after he became a bad guy because he never got to resolve his problems.
I think that Destiny was not that great but if you take it for what it is, its a good Gundam Anime, they definetly could have done better work and just have Shinn as the main with old chars more as the background...
Then Orb chose to go against the Alliance, leading to the battle that killed Shinn's family. While Shinn wasn't completely right with what he sad, its understandable for him to be angry with Orb.

-One side you can understand why he is mad over ORB. Shinn´s family died because ORB was not willing to fight to protect, so he has a lot of built up tension towards the Athha´s
-Other side you could say that Shinn is blaming ORB instead of thinking logically, his family died because of the war, not because of ORB, the way they died was an accident and instead of taking it that way, he blamed ORB.
@SilverWorldEnter That was the point. Shinn was just starting out his role in the story. Why would you expect so much from him so early ? Think logically you say? Shinn's misplaced rage was far more believable and endearing considering what happened to his family. Thinking logically is the last thing you should expect from a young character who witness one of the most gruesome and graphic deaths in Gundam history.
@Suimancer The whole point of the matter is that Shinn never grew throughout the series and even in the end when he shook hands with Kira, we didnt know if he let the things go and could move on. Through Destiny he was full of hatred and nothing ever changes, He has his moments with Stellar,Luna and Rey but besides that is nothing more than a shell of a character.

Its been awhile since I've seen Seed but I've just finished Destiny. You stated that Shinn had an immature reason for lashing out at one of Seed's characters. I'm going to make a guess that it was what he said to Cagalli about Orb and I kinda see his point. Orb broke its neutral stance by taking in the Archangel and lying to Zaft about it. Shinn was angry because Orb went against its ideals and got the citizens involved in the war.

Also, he when you compared Amuro to Kira I kinda laughed that you did: Amuro pushed the Gundam to it's limits, While Kira got complacent with the Freedom. The adaptability he was known for in Strike isn't in play anymore, just look at how he got owned using the Rouge. Had Kira been consistently portrayed with his skill, he wouldn't have this much haters. I'm a Kira fan, but I do see the rapejob that Fukuda did to him
@chloezellianne Agree with the whole argument except the strike rouge point. This point is weak, Kira had to defend the Eternal which was the "only reason" why he took/intercept the beam face on to protect the ship and the Gunner's Zaku's gun overpowered the capacity of the shield and blow the strike away, that is certainly not a point where Kira demonstrates poor skills.
I do hate how Fukuda half-assed at making Kira's piloting the Freedom, especially his fight against Destroy is booring.
@ONVPodcast : The real reason why Kira's character was hated was because: they made him out to be a pretentious hero of Justice. If he was saying consistently that he wouldn't have joined the war if Lacus wasn't dragged back into it, and even portaying him as having that dilemma of having to fight again: Then he'd be less hated. Instead, what we get is someone who is basically a douche, yes he's still that douche who bullied Ssigh into giving up Fllay, but in Destiny, it's multiplied by tens....

Also, you say Kira had the dilemma of whether his power is necessary, when it is clear as day that the only ever reason why he joined the battle in Destiny is because Lacus' life was threatened.As I discussed: Kira was protecting Lacus, and it was alright.
Anakin was the main character for the first half of Star Wars. The second half (released first for some odd reason) does the main character switch to Luke for his journey to free Anakin from the Dark side. Except Athrun plays Luke.
Great well thought out "review" I want to say, As for me Gundam Seed Destiny was enjoyable, but that may have been because i watched Destiny first so I saw things more through Shinn's eyes so his arguements against Kira didnt seem so outrageous because I saw that Shinn really didnt know Kira like someone who watched the first season would, he just saw him as a faceless very powerful soldier.
Also to the poster of the video Amuro in original MSG was not powerful then he could have died easily IF he wasn't piloting the RX-78-2, it was later on Amuro became a much stronger pilot overall, such as CCA.
Your arguement needs to be refined more or researched more, it was the same situation with Kira in SEED Destiny.
We see what happens when he uses the Strike Rouge after almost dying when Freedom gets destroyed, which he survives.
And yet Strike Freedom just takes things to insane levels.
Gundam Seed and Destiny are very character driven Anime Series that talk alot about different characters,their emotions and feelings towards each other. One of the main reasons Kira was able to do ridiculous things with Strike Freedom was because he had yet again a clear mind on what he needed to do, same goes for Athrun in Infinite Justice. It seems to me,reason they were so insane in their Gundams,because then they had a clear thing to fight for.
Seed destiny was stupid. Shinn was always going to be the main, that's why he piloted the Strike+GP01 wannabe that reeks of lead gundam, and the show spent more than half the time on shinn. But the fans demanded that kira spamato became the one in the limelight... brilliant. Not only that, since the freedom was good let's give it some bling and some extra gimmicks and throw it back out there! and give it a different name to make it SEEM like a different MS. Riiiiight.
@7kiku7honda7japan Actually, from a technical aspect, the Strike Freedom IS a different machine compared to the Freedom. But yeah, it was senseless for Kira to get an MS like Freedom for ep 13. I personally would've wanted him to Pilot a Strike Variant in that episode.
The better choice would've been Strike IWSP(or a sleeker form of it) for Kira during the first half, then in the second half, Strike Freedom(instead of the bling'd Freedom, we get a Strike pack that enables HiMAT)

Shinn was always going to have the same path, the only thing that would have changed would have been the ending, where Athrun shot him down, so you should be angry over the writers making Athrun freakishly powerful and Shinn seem like he was nothing during their last battle.
I think that Shinn was an awesome character as well but Kira was gone most of the first 20 episodes, Athrun and Shinn had most screen time by far.

In no way shape or form, did he have to keep being durandal's tool until athrun completely dismembered destiny, considering he was supposed to be the main character. But the shift from shinn to kira not only stopped shinn's character development, but judging by the fight against Justice he apparently downgraded in terms of skill. it doesn't matter how much shinn got, kira still ended up stealing the show.

If we are talking about the looks of a lead gundam, there is no basis on which looks mostly like the main gundam from Justice,Freedom and Destiny. they all are lead gundams.

I am a little confused how you can say that the writers of Gundam SEED Destiny did not cave to special interest groups, when in a previous video you that when they were writing Gundam SEED they let fan input control aspects of the series.
Also the points you bring up are not, in my estimation at least, why this show is bad. The reason the show is bad is because the writers demonstarte a complete lack of understand their own world and the shows central conflict, and
Kamille Bidan was bashed when Z Gundam was broadcasted, people yelled to have Amuro back as the protagonist. Tomino didn't give a damn to it, and Z Gundam became a legend.
Shinn Asuka was bashed when SEED Destiny was broadcasted, people yelled to have Kira back as the protagonist. Fukuda DID change the protagonist, and SEED Destiny became one of the most-bashed show.

However, you said near the beginning of the review that Gundam is a mecha show about growing up. You are correct in that regard.
That is one of the biggest faults in SEED Destiny. If Shinn wasn't the main character as you said well, he should have been.
The pain that he went through was tremendous and if he was able to conquer that pain, then he would have been a great role model because he would have grown up.

Even if the people wanted more of the original cast they would have still had the same story for Shinn but sadly it did not end like that. Shinn never got over it and never conquered it, not even in the end with Kira and Athrun where he shakes Kiras hand.

The whole Main Chara argument is somewhat flawed tho I can somewhat understand it . The issue with SEED Destiny (on my opinion) lies within its poorly developed concepts, GOOD concepts, that never saw the end due to poor direction and even worse writing... if you don't believe me, just... look at the controversy caused by Mitsuo Fukuda (director of the series) regarding SRW rewriting SEED Destiny ... and ending up better according to the very same japanese audience.
Folks, the video's title is HYPERBOLE. It's a joke. If I literally believed everyone else was wrong about Destiny, I would think its fans were wrong, too.

Haters are ruining the series in the US, thats why we dont get most Gundam games...US is just ridiculously critical over some small facts that Seed used several things from previous Gundam Shows.
Fukuda himself even said that the similarities from Seed and previous Gundam shows was because they wanted to give props to old shows, kinda like easter eggs.
@SilverWorldEnter Some of the things that are being "cleared up" aren't exactly being handled well and some of them just don't make sense. And Gundam's reception in the US has more to do than with the response to Seed. Gundam isn't as big in the US because it can't compare to the Japanese market.
But if you have been playing the games Bandai and Tecmo have released onto to the ps3, You know that they do not get good ratings and review sites dont know about Gundam before playing and reviewing, which results in a lower score and less care in general.
@SilverWorldEnter I've actually seen some decent reviews for the third dynasty warriors gundam game, even from one who was unfamiliar with gundam. And good review scores don't guarantee good sales. Ico and Beyond Good and Evil were critically acclaimed but sold poorly. The US gundam community is a niche market and theres no reason for the companies to spend money to localize the games from a business perspective.

Gundam seed destiny followed up on Gundam seed in the best way it could. By involving new characters with different moral stand points. Though the division of scenes feels odd early in the series because of the less prominent role of Kira it uses this time to setup and interesting observation on the civilian casualties of these conflicts.
This is not my favorite Gundam series but it carries enough redeemable qualities and memorable moments to warrant watching.
@lokistur SEED Destiny continued SEED in the worst possible way. There could have been more developement, rather than just "All Hail Hit-- no, Lacus!".
There are many major and small problems here and there. It's just ugly, and destroyed the potential of Cosmic Era.
What?! There were people who were expecting the original cast to not be in 2nd Gig? Wait, and there were peopl who were upset about this? I would be so upset if Major Kusanagi, Batou, Togusa, and Aramaki weren't in it. What were those people thinking? It's a sequel series. I agree with you wholeheartedly, Brent.
Gundam Seed was great. Seed Destiny was just badly written sequel. It felt like they was so taken with the popularity they rushed it. Shin was the thing that really hurt the show. He was just way too annoying. It reminds me of what happen to Batman Forever and Batman and Robin. Batman Forever was a big hit and they rushed for a sequel. Even people who worked on Batman and Robin admitted that the movie they made and the promotion they pushed was too annoying... : )
What I ultimately concluded about the show was that it had great potential and then decided not to follow through. While Shinn put off most people (much like Kamille) his struggle was infinitely more interesting than someone with no character arc (Kira). Shinn's story falls apart after he hooks up with Luna and he takes up the role of a loser villain. I really enjoyed the show up to that point but afterwards Kira self-righteously took out everyone.
@Arcemise Its weird to hear you complaining about that because I never understand the arguement of Shinn being more interesting than Kira or having a better character arc as you put it.
So did not find it interesting to see him in Destiny for the first time? You did not find it interesting to see Kira´s decision and thoughts to try to stop fighting, His thoughts when he talked to Athrun (EVERY TIME), his decision to do it all alone ONCE AGAIN?
@SilverWorldEnter I appreciate your civility. I only argue that Shinn is more interesting because he has different struggles that affect his actions. It's the kind of arc Kira went thru in SEED. Kira's only struggle in Destiny seems to be how long it takes him to shoot down everyone that crosses him.
I agree that Kira and Athrun's involvement provided some interesting conflicts, and I really enjoyed Destiny up till Athrun leaves but we pretty much abandon Shinn at a pivotal moment for his chara.
@Arcemise I agree with that as well, none of the old cast besides some were that well written for Destiny but they still had good moments so the writers definetly gave it thought. I also feel like characters do not need issues nor problems to be interesting.

I can't help but feel that Shinn embodies a lot of the same traits as Kamille (quick to anger, lashes out at old charas, Four/Stella). Your Anakin comparison makes sense, but watching Anakin's fall was the entirety of the Star Wars prequels.
I don't remember Kira ever feeling conflicted. Not even after the mechs he disarmed for taken out cause they're defenseless. He had no chara arc to go through.
By your definition, that makes Athrun the protagonist, but he doesn't do anything except complain.
I don't feel your review was terribly informative this time as much as a personal attack against your audience. You spent a lot of time lashing out at us rather than talking about the show. It really didn't feel a professional as your other reviews.
I've done a review of the Destiny myself with a friend and compiled several hour long videos where we discuss the series with spoilers (you really can't defend/attack this series without them)

The only thing I absolutely hated was the use of stock footage. I can't remember how many times I fast-forwarded through the Impulse's combine scene. Other than that I liked this series, I didn't even know about all the hate for Destiny until after I watched it.
Shinn is the Kamille of CE. He is egotistical, rather troubled and has reasons for it. Had the series, Destiny, in particular focused on Athrun being the Quattro to Shinn's Kamille, with Kira's Amuro, I wouldn't have minded Kira's AimBot McBeamSpam Lazer Discoball.
Destiny was enjoyable as a popcorn show. By that, I mean you don't take it seriously. Just sit back, enjoying the mecha and flashy laser light show. It's flaws, most notably the writing, become more so apparent when you rewatch it.

You just perfectly described Gundam Seed destiny.
I find all this ludicrous considering the VA's have said how bad things were behind the scenes and that because Shinn's VA defended Cagali's VA over the incident (in particular over the planned rewrite of KILLING Cagali off), Shinn was reduced to playing a villain and putting Kira back in the protagonist's seat. Everyone expressed their discontent on that to the point that Shinn's VA even said his SRWZ incarnation is the "True" Shinn Asuka in terms of character and plot.
you cant see it, but i am slowly clapping for you. i don't love this series, but i watched it when it came out and i was consistently entertained, and that's the minimum I ask for when I watch an anime, so i was happy. it wasn't flawless (and I dont think you are saying that), but it wasn't terrible. i liked and disliked some characters, but that's normal. i wouldn7t mind seeing a straight up review of this series sometime... now that we have (maybe) gotten some of the flaming out of the way
In my opinion, Destiny wasn't as good as the original series but I still enjoyed watching it. I think I probably would have changed two things though.
1. I would have focused more on Athrun towards the end of the series. I really like the way the manga, The Edge, focuses more on Athrun's perspective than the other characters'.
2. I wanted to see more Cagalli after she got her act back together. We only got one epic moment, when she pilots the Akatsuki.
kira was WAY to overpowered not once was the SF damaged starting from the time it got deployed i mean WTF is that even possible? maybe this was the show were atleast once in every episode some character would just randomly cry for the same old reasons.... annoying...
I just got done watching SEED Destiny. and to be honest I really enjoyed this.. granted I didn't like Shin's character, but I don't think we werent supposed to.. lol..
granted the sequel isn't as good as seed.. regardless it was a GREAT series!
There were flaw with seed destiny, at the beginning I felt like they were trying mimic the original but once they really got into the story, it really came out of its shell and became its own series! I think the main antagonist played a big role in that.

The studio decided to focus on characters that have no room for improvment, like godly jesus or The Queen of The Universe instead of developing book-set examples of fall before your rise Shinn.

It's about the same people as the first season. Seed Destiny was focusing on a new cast and then tosses them aside because it's convenient. Hi there :) It's been long since I've watched this video but hey. I just don't understand why do people HATE the show. Is it because people misunderstood almost everything about it? If You look at it like on a something to spend those 12 hours and HAVE FUN (And think while watching) while watching it and beeing able to watch Your favourite characters all over again in a new story You CAN'T go wrong with it... Or maybe it is because i got to see Athrun and Kira again...Don't understand me wrong, I've seen all of gundam series and read the crossbone, 00 manga and so on...And got to the UC stuff after wing, 00 and seed and i Admit there are better ones than Destiny, but no one will force me to dislike Destiny because the story works for me just fine-as fan of returning characters.

I feel that GSD made very little effort emphasizing Shinn's character (besides the tragic scene at the beginning.) from the very beginning, as the important scenes were always with Athrun and Cagalli, and at certain points, Neo. So, I really felt Shinn was of little to no importance to the plot from the get-go, which was okay because I loved the characters from SEED. As for Shinn being "emo" during his scenes, I thought that's realistically realized. Likeable? Probably not, but believable.

I've watched this video just now, catching up on the comments and the such, and am surprised how many meaningful comments were flagged as spam. The flagged comments include those that favor the show with valid reasonings, and those which merely had fruitful discussions that don't necessarily favor the show. My opinion of Seed Destiny notwithstanding, flagging said comments such as "I actually like Seed Destiny" is not the way to debate.

Then you must also know that Newtype is a third party magazine no different from other western anime magazine except its from Japan, and as such their articles can be (and have been) wrong?

My final thought is GSD is the product of incredibly lazy and piss poor writing. I have no problems with fan service, awesome mechs and battles and bad ass characters. This show is a product of too much of everything and not enough of its own material. The first Seed took nods to the first Gundam show with mech designs, story and character nods but Destiny is just the creators taking ANYTHING of the old and slapping it in for NO REASON. A Golden colored gundam, Zakus, and a Kamille clone

The fact is they introduce Shinn in the first episode and not reintroduce Kira until MUCH later tells me that we should pay attention to Shinn. This is HIS show but I feel that it is lazy writing that is why they brought back Arthrun and Kira and gave them super powers. They were powerful aces before but in this show it is stupid powerful. Kira runs through EVERYONE. They made an extended final episode with the OP that is sucking Kira's dick about how awesome he is and how Shinn is this crybaby

I know this has been said before, but I honestly didn't like the character development and the pace of this show. By the middle of this series, I was wondering who is supposed to be the main character here? Is it Kira? Is it Arthrun? Is it Shinn? At first I thought it was Shinn but then Kira shows up mid way into the show and steals his thunder and suddenly Shinn turns from kid with a chip on his shoulder and traumatic past to Anakin Skywalker a la SW EP III. There are bigger issues in life than to continue arguing over an anime series that's already over. What's the point of dragging on these debates? It's not like the outcome of the series is going to suddenly change.
People need to just move on and enjoy what they like. Whether you like the series or not, that's fine; move on, but don't put others down just because they have a different view of it.
There's just nothing to gain. In the end, Bandai/Sunrise doesn't care who wins this silly debate.

@Arcemise - I also agree with you that Shinn in Destiny had what Kira had in Seed but Kira´s character story was much more well written compared to Shinn´s in the first place which made me dislike Shinn after he became a bad guy because he never got to resolve his problems.
I think that Destiny was not that great but if you take it for what it is, its a good Gundam Anime, they definetly could have done better work and just have Shinn as the main with old chars more as the background...

-One side you can understand why he is mad over ORB. Shinn´s family died because ORB was not willing to fight to protect, so he has a lot of built up tension towards the Athha´s
-Other side you could say that Shinn is blaming ORB instead of thinking logically, his family died because of the war, not because of ORB, the way they died was an accident and instead of taking it that way, he blamed ORB.

@SilverWorldEnter That was the point. Shinn was just starting out his role in the story. Why would you expect so much from him so early ? Think logically you say? Shinn's misplaced rage was far more believable and endearing considering what happened to his family. Thinking logically is the last thing you should expect from a young character who witness one of the most gruesome and graphic deaths in Gundam history.

@Suimancer The whole point of the matter is that Shinn never grew throughout the series and even in the end when he shook hands with Kira, we didnt know if he let the things go and could move on. Through Destiny he was full of hatred and nothing ever changes, He has his moments with Stellar,Luna and Rey but besides that is nothing more than a shell of a character.
I liked him and I get why he is mad but there was nothing to him.

Its been awhile since I've seen Seed but I've just finished Destiny. You stated that Shinn had an immature reason for lashing out at one of Seed's characters. I'm going to make a guess that it was what he said to Cagalli about Orb and I kinda see his point. Orb broke its neutral stance by taking in the Archangel and lying to Zaft about it. Shinn was angry because Orb went against its ideals and got the citizens involved in the war.

Also, he when you compared Amuro to Kira I kinda laughed that you did: Amuro pushed the Gundam to it's limits, While Kira got complacent with the Freedom. The adaptability he was known for in Strike isn't in play anymore, just look at how he got owned using the Rouge. Had Kira been consistently portrayed with his skill, he wouldn't have this much haters. I'm a Kira fan, but I do see the rapejob that Fukuda did to him

@chloezellianne Agree with the whole argument except the strike rouge point. This point is weak, Kira had to defend the Eternal which was the "only reason" why he took/intercept the beam face on to protect the ship and the Gunner's Zaku's gun overpowered the capacity of the shield and blow the strike away, that is certainly not a point where Kira demonstrates poor skills.
I do hate how Fukuda half-assed at making Kira's piloting the Freedom, especially his fight against Destroy is booring.

@ONVPodcast : The real reason why Kira's character was hated was because: they made him out to be a pretentious hero of Justice. If he was saying consistently that he wouldn't have joined the war if Lacus wasn't dragged back into it, and even portaying him as having that dilemma of having to fight again: Then he'd be less hated. Instead, what we get is someone who is basically a douche, yes he's still that douche who bullied Ssigh into giving up Fllay, but in Destiny, it's multiplied by tens....

Great well thought out "review" I want to say, As for me Gundam Seed Destiny was enjoyable, but that may have been because i watched Destiny first so I saw things more through Shinn's eyes so his arguements against Kira didnt seem so outrageous because I saw that Shinn really didnt know Kira like someone who watched the first season would, he just saw him as a faceless very powerful soldier.

Also to the poster of the video Amuro in original MSG was not powerful then he could have died easily IF he wasn't piloting the RX-78-2, it was later on Amuro became a much stronger pilot overall, such as CCA.
Your arguement needs to be refined more or researched more, it was the same situation with Kira in SEED Destiny.
We see what happens when he uses the Strike Rouge after almost dying when Freedom gets destroyed, which he survives.
And yet Strike Freedom just takes things to insane levels.

Gundam Seed and Destiny are very character driven Anime Series that talk alot about different characters,their emotions and feelings towards each other. One of the main reasons Kira was able to do ridiculous things with Strike Freedom was because he had yet again a clear mind on what he needed to do, same goes for Athrun in Infinite Justice. It seems to me,reason they were so insane in their Gundams,because then they had a clear thing to fight for.

Seed destiny was stupid. Shinn was always going to be the main, that's why he piloted the Strike+GP01 wannabe that reeks of lead gundam, and the show spent more than half the time on shinn. But the fans demanded that kira spamato became the one in the limelight... brilliant. Not only that, since the freedom was good let's give it some bling and some extra gimmicks and throw it back out there! and give it a different name to make it SEEM like a different MS. Riiiiight.

@7kiku7honda7japan Actually, from a technical aspect, the Strike Freedom IS a different machine compared to the Freedom. But yeah, it was senseless for Kira to get an MS like Freedom for ep 13. I personally would've wanted him to Pilot a Strike Variant in that episode.
The better choice would've been Strike IWSP(or a sleeker form of it) for Kira during the first half, then in the second half, Strike Freedom(instead of the bling'd Freedom, we get a Strike pack that enables HiMAT)

Shinn was always going to have the same path, the only thing that would have changed would have been the ending, where Athrun shot him down, so you should be angry over the writers making Athrun freakishly powerful and Shinn seem like he was nothing during their last battle.
I think that Shinn was an awesome character as well but Kira was gone most of the first 20 episodes, Athrun and Shinn had most screen time by far.

In no way shape or form, did he have to keep being durandal's tool until athrun completely dismembered destiny, considering he was supposed to be the main character. But the shift from shinn to kira not only stopped shinn's character development, but judging by the fight against Justice he apparently downgraded in terms of skill. it doesn't matter how much shinn got, kira still ended up stealing the show.

If we are talking about the looks of a lead gundam, there is no basis on which looks mostly like the main gundam from Justice,Freedom and Destiny. they all are lead gundams.
To me it seemed like it had no lead, Athrun,Kira and Shinn all were the main characters.no lead.

The problem is that the blind fanboys/girls at the time likely outnumbered the haters, or voiced their opinion more. The justice is in no way a lead gundam. I am a little confused how you can say that the writers of Gundam SEED Destiny did not cave to special interest groups, when in a previous video you that when they were writing Gundam SEED they let fan input control aspects of the series.
Also the points you bring up are not, in my estimation at least, why this show is bad. The reason the show is bad is because the writers demonstarte a complete lack of understand their own world and the shows central conflict, and

To others, two examples below:
Kamille Bidan was bashed when Z Gundam was broadcasted, people yelled to have Amuro back as the protagonist. Tomino didn't give a damn to it, and Z Gundam became a legend.
Shinn Asuka was bashed when SEED Destiny was broadcasted, people yelled to have Kira back as the protagonist. Fukuda DID change the protagonist, and SEED Destiny became one of the most-bashed show.
It's obvious that who made the wrong choice.

Here we are being told by both series to have an open mind about everything, and we shun those opinions differing from our own.
I'm a SEED fan, and yes, I myself know that Destiny is not a title worthy to be SEED's sequel. In fact, I'd like to say that Destiny made me regret the last half of SEED.
Case in point: look at Kira, you'll find that he's exactly the same person he was

Though I am not personally a fan of cosmic era GUNDAM , i respect that you have delivered your opinion in a calm and reasoned manner and don't have to resort to ranting, swearing and shouting like animeoverviewer. But suffice it to say, I have a LOT of problems with Destiny, and yet, in some ways it's actually one of my favorite Gundam series.

Let me make one thing clear first, I'm not bashing you with this comment. I'm not.
However, you said near the beginning of the review that Gundam is a mecha show about growing up. You are correct in that regard.
That is one of the biggest faults in SEED Destiny. If Shinn wasn't the main character as you said well, he should have been.
The pain that he went through was tremendous and if he was able to conquer that pain, then he would have been a great role model because he would have grown up.

Even if the people wanted more of the original cast they would have still had the same story for Shinn but sadly it did not end like that. Shinn never got over it and never conquered it, not even in the end with Kira and Athrun where he shakes Kiras hand.
Maybe if the writing would have been different....

The whole Main Chara argument is somewhat flawed tho I can somewhat understand it . The issue with SEED Destiny (on my opinion) lies within its poorly developed concepts, GOOD concepts, that never saw the end due to poor direction and even worse writing... if you don't believe me, just... look at the controversy caused by Mitsuo Fukuda (director of the series) regarding SRW rewriting SEED Destiny ... and ending up better according to the very same japanese audience.

@NickIzumi It is not about "winning" an argument, He is clearly trying to clear up things that people might not have seen made clear before. Haters are ruining the series in the US, thats why we dont get most Gundam games...US is just ridiculously critical over some small facts that Seed used several things from previous Gundam Shows.
Fukuda himself even said that the similarities from Seed and previous Gundam shows was because they wanted to give props to old shows, kinda like easter eggs.

@SilverWorldEnter Some of the things that are being "cleared up" aren't exactly being handled well and some of them just don't make sense. And Gundam's reception in the US has more to do than with the response to Seed. Gundam isn't as big in the US because it can't compare to the Japanese market.

But if you have been playing the games Bandai and Tecmo have released onto to the ps3, You know that they do not get good ratings and review sites dont know about Gundam before playing and reviewing, which results in a lower score and less care in general.

@SilverWorldEnter I've actually seen some decent reviews for the third dynasty warriors gundam game, even from one who was unfamiliar with gundam. And good review scores don't guarantee good sales. Ico and Beyond Good and Evil were critically acclaimed but sold poorly. The US gundam community is a niche market and theres no reason for the companies to spend money to localize the games from a business perspective.

Gundam seed destiny followed up on Gundam seed in the best way it could. By involving new characters with different moral stand points. Though the division of scenes feels odd early in the series because of the less prominent role of Kira it uses this time to setup and interesting observation on the civilian casualties of these conflicts.
This is not my favorite Gundam series but it carries enough redeemable qualities and memorable moments to warrant watching.

Gundam Seed was great. Seed Destiny was just badly written sequel. It felt like they was so taken with the popularity they rushed it. Shin was the thing that really hurt the show. He was just way too annoying. It reminds me of what happen to Batman Forever and Batman and Robin. Batman Forever was a big hit and they rushed for a sequel. Even people who worked on Batman and Robin admitted that the movie they made and the promotion they pushed was too annoying... : )

What I ultimately concluded about the show was that it had great potential and then decided not to follow through. While Shinn put off most people (much like Kamille) his struggle was infinitely more interesting than someone with no character arc (Kira). Shinn's story falls apart after he hooks up with Luna and he takes up the role of a loser villain. I really enjoyed the show up to that point but afterwards Kira self-righteously took out everyone.

@SilverWorldEnter I appreciate your civility. I only argue that Shinn is more interesting because he has different struggles that affect his actions. It's the kind of arc Kira went thru in SEED. Kira's only struggle in Destiny seems to be how long it takes him to shoot down everyone that crosses him.
I agree that Kira and Athrun's involvement provided some interesting conflicts, and I really enjoyed Destiny up till Athrun leaves but we pretty much abandon Shinn at a pivotal moment for his chara.

I can't help but feel that Shinn embodies a lot of the same traits as Kamille (quick to anger, lashes out at old charas, Four/Stella). Your Anakin comparison makes sense, but watching Anakin's fall was the entirety of the Star Wars prequels.
I don't remember Kira ever feeling conflicted. Not even after the mechs he disarmed for taken out cause they're defenseless. He had no chara arc to go through.
By your definition, that makes Athrun the protagonist, but he doesn't do anything except complain.

I don't feel your review was terribly informative this time as much as a personal attack against your audience. You spent a lot of time lashing out at us rather than talking about the show. It really didn't feel a professional as your other reviews.
I've done a review of the Destiny myself with a friend and compiled several hour long videos where we discuss the series with spoilers (you really can't defend/attack this series without them)

The only thing I absolutely hated was the use of stock footage. I can't remember how many times I fast-forwarded through the Impulse's combine scene. Other than that I liked this series, I didn't even know about all the hate for Destiny until after I watched it.

Shinn is the Kamille of CE. He is egotistical, rather troubled and has reasons for it. Had the series, Destiny, in particular focused on Athrun being the Quattro to Shinn's Kamille, with Kira's Amuro, I wouldn't have minded Kira's AimBot McBeamSpam Lazer Discoball.
Destiny was enjoyable as a popcorn show. By that, I mean you don't take it seriously. Just sit back, enjoying the mecha and flashy laser light show. It's flaws, most notably the writing, become more so apparent when you rewatch it.

@SilverWorldEnter You know that aside from lead gundams every other mobile suit sold horribly in model sales right? And just because it got high rating it's good? Look at twilight and say that again. Turn A is a hundred times better and did horribly in the ratings.

@narutoman876 What? So your trying to lie to me and say that Duel Gundam did not sell well? Aegis did not sell well? Providence,Legend didnt do well in sales? You know why they stop producing Legend,Providence and Duel right? For awhile they could not keep up with the demand. Everybody knows that after Gundam Wing Gunpla, Gundam Seed and Destiny Gunpla come straight after as 2nd place.
Turn A was said to be the worst of all of Gundam shows, How do you not know that, do some research....

@ReverieExodus Forums, I mean I visit different Anime Forums for Gundam and just have been looking around, it looks like the most popular ones are MSG,Z,ZZ,Wing,Seed,Destiny,OO.
I might be wrong but Im going after what Ive seen and heard, also it did very poorly in ratings.

@SilverWorldEnter If your basing your judgement on forums, then wouldn't that mean you think Destiny an awful show? Popularity does not equate to good quality. Kira is a boring character because there is no character growth and to be honest, I found him to be pretentious. And there were other major faults with destiny. If everyone took a series for what it is, then does that mean there is no such thing as a bad series?

@narutoman876 Sadly Im not, I work as a reviewer and have an open min when it comes to anything and everything and Im not 12.
Whether you like Turn A or not, Gundam Magazine,Forum polls,ratings, merchandise sales say otherwise (FACT).
Go to any gundam shop on the net and see what they have in stock and out of stock, simple as that.
HLJ.COM, I buy from there, check it out, SF and Infinite justice I just ordered and both backordered meaning that they cant keep up with the orders...

@SilverWorldEnter Yeah, so is every other god-damned kit on HLJ, all the way back to the old 1/144 V kits. You clearly have no idea how to substantiate your argument with facts. Forums? Polls? OPINIONS. Turn A is superior to Seed in every way but failed cause it didn't attract the 12 year olds like SEED or Wing, instead it told a great story with a large strong cast of characters with 0% STOCK FOOTAGE

@iCards Yeah, I was even brought in with SEED, But I can tell it's shit, and i don't defend it because I liked it and it was my first. Unlike a lot of people I went and watched every other series.

Bad Animations, Bad Fight scenes and a weak plot with uninteresting characters does not make a good anime, never will and never has.

I find all this ludicrous considering the VA's have said how bad things were behind the scenes and that because Shinn's VA defended Cagali's VA over the incident (in particular over the planned rewrite of KILLING Cagali off), Shinn was reduced to playing a villain and putting Kira back in the protagonist's seat. Everyone expressed their discontent on that to the point that Shinn's VA even said his SRWZ incarnation is the "True" Shinn Asuka in terms of character and plot.

you cant see it, but i am slowly clapping for you. i don't love this series, but i watched it when it came out and i was consistently entertained, and that's the minimum I ask for when I watch an anime, so i was happy. it wasn't flawless (and I dont think you are saying that), but it wasn't terrible. i liked and disliked some characters, but that's normal. i wouldn7t mind seeing a straight up review of this series sometime... now that we have (maybe) gotten some of the flaming out of the way

In my opinion, Destiny wasn't as good as the original series but I still enjoyed watching it. I think I probably would have changed two things though.
1. I would have focused more on Athrun towards the end of the series. I really like the way the manga, The Edge, focuses more on Athrun's perspective than the other characters'.
2. I wanted to see more Cagalli after she got her act back together. We only got one epic moment, when she pilots the Akatsuki.

kira was WAY to overpowered not once was the SF damaged starting from the time it got deployed i mean WTF is that even possible? maybe this was the show were atleast once in every episode some character would just randomly cry for the same old reasons.... annoying...
