I just git back from the track. There were 2 S2000. They both did multiple 1/4 mile passes. Best time was 15.4. I wasn;t impressed. Both got smoked by Neon RT4s and Cobalt SS. Ok both Honda's drivers were probably idiots..... of course. However, I saw what I saw.
As I mentioned before, I was there and the mustang had a better time. However, the S2000 had a better reaction time as "gtdrummerdude" mentioned which is why it crossed the finish line first. But, the next time we go, the S2000 now has new gears. So, I am expecting it to run in the mid 13's.
I will clear all this up right now. My wife was the one actually filming this race while my buddy and I raced. The Mustang did run a 13.7 and the S2000 did run 13.9. HOWEVER, since the RT of the S2000 was better, my buddy actually crossed the line first. You can see that on the time board on the left. There are two straight lines on the sides of the board that show who finished the race first. Even though the mustang had better time, he still lost the race due to a bad reaction time.
It wasn't a bracket race, reaction time doesn't factor in to your ET. The Mustang crossed the line behind the S2000, but the Mustang is the faster car. I've beaten cars through the traps by 2+ car lengths and they still cut a faster time than me. I don't go around saying I beat them tho because when the time slips come out, their time was faster and you look dumb. You finished first, but the Mustang won.

Sure a stock S2000 will beat a stock fox body on a road course. The S2000 is Honda's highest achievement for production sports cars, and the motor in stock form is already so built that your only option for mods is forced induction. Mustang engines come so underbuilt that for a few grand the cars will do incredible things. I'm guessing you beat a '96 - '99 4.6 GT or a newer one that was automatic. My '82 walks those.
Bottom line: I'm glad you like your S2000 and I agree they are cool cars and make very good power for having such a small engine, but they are not that quick for being Honda's fastest production car, and as soon as the big boys come out (LS1, Corvette, '99-'08 Mustang GT, not to mention Cobra, Terminator, GT500, etc) that S2000 doesn't stand a chance. No it can't. Anyone who takes an NSX down the drag strip should be slapped anyway. It's a very expensive luxury touring/sports car. They make hardly any more power than an S2000 and are a little heavier. It might do 13.8 with slicks and a driver, depending on the track.
Hello, you are not smart. The NSX weighs as much as the s2000, maybe less, along with having 30 more horsepower, and a lot more torque. They run mid to low 13's and the newer models have a little more power and can run into the high 12's.
Everything runs 12s on youtube when you're a 15 year-old kid. When you've been building cars and racing at the drag strip every weekend for years, things don't quite work like that. Turbo Hondas BARELY cut 15s sometimes, SRT4s, 350Z etc run 15s, most cars tend to just run 15s, at least in the AZ heat.

One day I had my 200 lb self, another 200 lb passenger, and another 130 lb passenger (530 lbs) in my 1982 5.0 when the S2000 next to me at the stoplight with only one person in it -the driver- who was maybe 150 lbs decided to race and took off. I was caught by surprise, tried to take off, bogged, and then proceeded to stay right behind him. With 530 lbs of dead weight in my car... Not impressive for the S2000.

My mustang would get off the line quicker than my S2k, but in the long run the S2000 would run away from it. I can trap 98mph in the 1/4. The only way I'm buying your story is if you had a set of 4.10 gears or some pretty decent bolt ons. And btw, how is a S197 a slow pig when it would walk all over a 82 5.0?
My car weighs 2900 lbs, I have a mild cam, Edelbrock carb, headers, exhaust and pulleys. 3.27 gears and a srod trans. I trapped 95 mph in 105 degree heat, 5000 ft density altitude with my engine nearly overheating and poor driving. Going back soon now that it's getting into the 60s outside, but a few days ago I hung with a friend's nitrous Civic that did 99 mph in the 1/4 two weeks ago. 98 mph aint a problem and with a little tuning on the carb I could probly do 101.

Sure I can. Ppl do it all the time. Bone stock fox body + 14 psi gets you in the 10s at about 125 mph. The 5.0 motors aren't weak. They came stock with forged crankshafts, rods and pistons. You can spin a stock 5.0 shortblock to 7000 rpm and not even worry about it. I don't think my car is a big boy. It's quick enough but it's not fast. Fast is 10.5 @ 130 mph. And no, your motor wouldn't hold 600 hp in stock form. I wouldn't trust either of our motors with that power.
Regardless, s2000 are overpriced and very unpractical. There's a reason why people buy Mustangs, myself included. I want speed, reliability, affordability, good highwat gas millage and room for suitcases since I travel a lot. Is your top a POF manual top? Mustangs are electric.... way more convenient. I had a Civic.... It wasn't that good on gas considering the low torque. My Mustang GT makes 550km per 45l on the hgy which is close to what my civic did. In town is't a different thing but well worth the extra gas. Circuit racing? So the insurance get cancelled if you crash? And how many such race track exists in the US? We have none in Canada. Even the Terminators don't fair to well with that much power without doing a bunch of cooling upgrades. And it's still not a good idea without upgrading internals. The F20C will hold 600+hp. I believe the Termi 4.6 and the Gt500 5.4 are the only Mustang motors that will do that

You can see down through history over the last 30 yrs, who's got good consumer ratings and who doesn't. Anything from Detroit basically has lousy reliability. Korean cars are basically the same way, even German engineering is going downhill. Only Japan has steadily produced good quality since the 70s...and that's why I choose them; never had issues with their stuff.

I raced an S2000 earlier today in my 1982 (lol) fox body Mustang 5.0. It's carbureted for God's sake and I hade 2 extra passengers in the car for a total of 3 people totaling 530 lbs. The S2000 just had a driver, about 160 lbs. I didn't know we were gonna race so he got the jump and I left from like 1200 rpm and I STILL only fell behind by 1 car from a stop to about 80mph. My car also has a 4 speed trans with a horrible 1:1 THIRD gear, the same as the S2000's FOURTH gear. Kinda sad.

Yeah I call bullshit on that. I had a 91 Fox body before I had my S2000. I had a cold air intake, longtubes, catless X pipe and Flowmasters. My mustang would get off the line quicker than my S2k, but in the long run the S2000 would run away from it. I can trap 98mph in the 1/4. The only way I'm buying your story is if you had a set of 4.10 gears or some pretty decent bolt ons. And btw, how is a S197 a slow pig when it would walk all over a 82 5.0?

My car weighs 2900 lbs, I have a mild cam, Edelbrock carb, headers, exhaust and pulleys. 3.27 gears and a srod trans. I trapped 95 mph in 105 degree heat, 5000 ft density altitude with my engine nearly overheating and poor driving. Going back soon now that it's getting into the 60s outside, but a few days ago I hung with a friend's nitrous Civic that did 99 mph in the 1/4 two weeks ago. 98 mph aint a problem and with a little tuning on the carb I could probly do 101.

I run about the same in the 1/4 as you, probably faster from a roll and your car is a "big boy" and mine isn't? I can throw a turbo on my stock long block and make 600-700hp and run 10's and not have a rod shoot out the side of my block. Can you? Not without spending a shit ton of money on forged internals you can't.

Sure I can. Ppl do it all the time. Bone stock fox body + 14 psi gets you in the 10s at about 125 mph. The 5.0 motors aren't weak. They came stock with forged crankshafts, rods and pistons. You can spin a stock 5.0 shortblock to 7000 rpm and not even worry about it. I don't think my car is a big boy. It's quick enough but it's not fast. Fast is 10.5 @ 130 mph. And no, your motor wouldn't hold 600 hp in stock form. I wouldn't trust either of our motors with that power.

Regardless, s2000 are overpriced and very unpractical. There's a reason why people buy Mustangs, myself included. I want speed, reliability, affordability, good highwat gas millage and room for suitcases since I travel a lot. Is your top a POF manual top? Mustangs are electric.... way more convenient. Do you get it?

I don't know if I would say it's overpriced. It's a Niche car, and your paying for that. It probably is a little more unpracticle than a Mustang since it's a two seater. My top is electric and is by far the easiest and quickest Ive ever had. Convertible Mustangs included. Also.. My S2000 is 10 years old and has 120k hard miles on it. It see's 9000 rpm everytime I drive it. It doesn't use any oil and has perfect compression. My top doesn't leak also, Let's see how your top is doing in 10 years.

I had a Civic.... It wasn't that good on gas considering the low torque. My Mustang GT makes 550km per 45l on the hgy which is close to what my civic did. In town is't a different thing but well worth the extra gas. Circuit racing? So the insurance get cancelled if you crash? And how many such race track exists in the US? We have none in Canada. Those Honda are overhyped by teenagers and way overpriced economy cars.

gtrdrummerdude: Most the modern Mustangs can't even hold that much HP without replacing something. Even the Terminators don't fair to well with that much power without doing a bunch of cooling upgrades. And it's still not a good idea without upgrading internals. I'm not hating on your car btw, I actually really like Mustangs. I'll probably buy another one someday. My point is that if an S2000 is going to be considered a slow car, you better include Mustangs too.

I'm pretty much calling bullshit on this unless you didn't take care of the car at all. And I never said a Stock civic would be reliable with 600hp. A Ford escort isn't comparable to a Mustang. Likewise, most Civics are not comparible with S2000's. The F20C engine was built for performance and reliability. It's made to be driven hard. Not all Honda or Ford engines are made that way. The F20C will hold 600+hp. I believe the Termi 4.6 and the Gt500 5.4 are the only Mustang motors that will do that

And why would you choose a Genesis? IT'S A HYUNDAI! I realize the Genesis' are pretty snappy, but Hyundais are trash. Cheap quality, ugly, high maintenance, low reliability, low resale value...they're nothing worth bragging about, or even admitting.

I do know all about Hyundais. I work in a garage and they come in all the time with issues; even the newest ones. They're also a pain in the rear to work on and fix. Ever tried changing a center brake light on a new Sonata? Should be a simple job, but because of dumb engineering, it takes nearly 40min w/ a pro doing it.

@StevenBTT Even though it may not be all Honda built anymore, the fact is it's a 4cyl hitting 170mph+ in the 1/4. Very impressive.
You can see down through history over the last 30 yrs, who's got good consumer ratings and who doesn't. Anything from Detroit basically has lousy reliability. Korean cars are basically the same way, even German engineering is going downhill. Only Japan has steadily produced good quality since the 70s...and that's why I choose them; never had issues with their stuff.

I raced an S2000 earlier today in my 1982 (lol) fox body Mustang 5.0. It's carbureted for God's sake and I hade 2 extra passengers in the car for a total of 3 people totaling 530 lbs. The S2000 just had a driver, about 160 lbs. I didn't know we were gonna race so he got the jump and I left from like 1200 rpm and I STILL only fell behind by 1 car from a stop to about 80mph. My car also has a 4 speed trans with a horrible 1:1 THIRD gear, the same as the S2000's FOURTH gear. Kinda sad.
