Sure, I didn't mean to say "everything is dandy and fun in the army". It's a stressful job, even for those who are strong enough both mentally and physically. You can get killed in the army, but you can also get killed in a car crash, or by eating too much. You get to shoot people in the face once in a while, but most of the time it's necessary to guarantee both the safety and the perseverance of your country.

@OMNIenforcer15 No, but it isn't "common sense" as SergioBizzle stated. Several armed forces around the world don't require citizenship for enlistment (the United States being one of them). As mentioned by topmarkms the UK military will take you if you are a member of the commonwealth (I know an Australian who is in the process of becoming a Lord Advocate).

Seems to me almost every comment on here is people who don't know anything about the UK Army, We don't start wars for oil, we are there to protect and help improve those in need. We went to Afghanistan etc to get rid of Al q because they banned almost everything and punished with death. We get those summer looking bits for risking our lives on tour. We never fire first, we trusted so much we were killed by afghan police we thought were nice people. We don't murder so stop slandering foreigners!

Sure, I didn't mean to say "everything is dandy and fun in the army". It's a stressful job, even for those who are strong enough both mentally and physically. You can get killed in the army, but you can also get killed in a car crash, or by eating too much. You get to shoot people in the face once in a while, but most of the time it's necessary to guarantee both the safety and the perseverance of your country.

I am a serving soldier. And I would tell any one to go to collage, get a education, become a fire-fighter, and police man anything but the armed forces. It´s unpredicted long hours lots of bad times few good times crappy accommodation and paid LESS than part of the public sector like the fire bridged.

My grand grand mother was in Auswitz German Concentration camp. And during the war there wasn't any British , American or French Soldier on our territory. What kind of help you gave us ? I don't know how I would do it. I would be proud to serve Britain, to protect my family, I would die for them. But every time I see on the news another dead soldier with mourning families, my heart grows cold. I know I'll die someday, but there isn't going to be anything after, just silence. If I was going to go out there, serve my country, what would I gain? Honour? Respect? Experience? A warrior's death? Christ, I don't know.

@urbangekko what would you gain? In the eyes of many, me included, the army is an honourable profession, and pretty much commands respect from everyone that is qualified to give it. Think about it, the death rate isn't actually high at all, relative to the number of soldiers deployed. And even if you do die, it's a bit better than dying of cancer or old age or something.

Yeah dude. We're off fighting years before the US even shows up. Then they glorify that day by naming it D-Day and somehow it becomes the most famous battle of all and they walk off with the credit. Even though the Canadians and British were fighting Italy off AND France at the same time from the west and the Russians were fighting from the east. Honestly all the US did in Europe was come by to clean a few things up.
