Really .. these artificial higher-degrees, bestowed upon media personalities like our darling Kylie, make a mockery of serious academia (I'm a retired academic, so I can speak with some authority). It makes for an insult to those aspirants, who possess considerably more intellect than our darling KM, & who work away very hard for years on end to attain these types of higher-degree, FOR REAL. Much more appropriate non-academic awards are far-better for cases like Pop Star Kylie.
@colindominy thesepeople with intellelect aren't able to tell one inteligible sentence , academia in england are the most antisemitic racist people and possess high degree and they don't work very hard , they aren't capable of basic relation ...
I hate to be blunt, but the whole notion of an "honorary" degree is just that... honorary. It's not real, and it's certainly not insulting unless you're remarkably thin skinned.
It's great that academics work hard. I know I am. And I know that Kylie has in the fight against breast cancer. She's done great things, so why shouldn't an organisation that thinks she's done well express that? She hasn't jumped the queue or something ridiculous.
@colindominy So an honorary certificate that does not stand for license to practice and does not represent a level of education makes an academic feel uncomfortable? An academic who also just happens to stereotype someone as intellectually inferior because they have not gone through the same course of education in their lives. Sure that those two are not two things to feel bad about, much more than Kylie's degree is? What does that say about academics? Narrow-minded much? To say the least.
@Chrisjcxa I'm unsure about Britain, but an honorary degree in the states does not grant one the ability to be considered a doctor in that field. The idea of a PhD is that you are a doctor of philosophy in said field, & will advance knowledge farther than it has gone before. The idea behind an honorary degree is A) that her work promoting awareness has advanced that cause farther than it could have been without her and B) that she'll give a fun graduation speech. Keep that last bit in mind.

@Tucboi22 Yes, thank you, obviously that's what it is, which is why there's no point in complaining about it to any extent imo.
