This movie fucking sucks. Portrayed Jim and The Doors in the worst way possible. And what the fuck was that thing with the kid jumping off the balcony? Just because its a Doors concert doesnt mean kids are jumping off 20 foot balconies unnoticed.
another part of this movie that bothered me was the one line in the bar "A Couple Of Irish Guys like us" ... Jim Morrison was of mainly SCOTTISH herritage! Oliver Stone needed to study some more...
@3azabb ray manzarek didnt approve of oliver stone's movie he said it was all fake in the movie pam n jim didnt really meet like that they meet in a bar i have it and i watch it like about 2 times a week just to make fun of olivers stoopid directing (:
@aldogarcia2011 you have to read between the lines of Oliver's movie. First and foremost its a MOVIE, second, Ray hated the movie cuz Oli portrayed him as a boring fart.
@aldogarcia2011 Ray is a strange character...all of a sudden he's giving interviews and the funny thing its all about JIm. Yet Ray didnt know about the footage aired on "When You're Strange" where Jim is flying off in his Mustang. So I dont consider Ray to be a trustworthy source as far as the Doors are concerend.
@Haku92292 maybe, but I tell you something, the music played in the Doors Movie and Control movie sounds much much better than the original...you have the right to disagree, or maybe you need to change the speakers or the acoustics in your house.
Kilmer got the lead role by having the producer listen to original recordings of Morrison. The producer listened, said "so what." Then Kilmer sprang his trap.... those recordings of Morrison were not of Morrison.... but of Kilmer covering Morrison! Kilmer got the job on the spot. Incidentally, Kilmer's been a Doors/Morrison fan all his life.
Guy that threw himself off balcony (Hey, Jim, AAAHHHHH!!!). What an idiot!! I believe he's paralysis now. He had a "Million Dollar Baby" moment. Snapped his fucken neck on a seat.
Val Kilmer did an awesome job playing the role he was given. I don't think that Jim was written accurately, but that's not Kilmer's fault, he was just playing the part they gave him, and he was good at it. His voice was awesome, he looked and sounded like Jim.
Dead cats, dead rats Cant see what they were at, all right Dead cat in a top hat, wow Sucking on the young mans blood Wishing he could come, yeah Sucking on the soldiers brain Wishing it would be the same Dead cat, dead rat Cant you see what they were at? Fat cat in a top hat Thinks hes an aristocrat
i think its hard to tell where the drugs end and the real jim begins, only because he had that way of being fucked up out of his mind on booze, drugs etc, but at the same time extremely aware of the world around him and what was going on in it, plus being charming (probably the irish in him). but i think, unlike many people at that time, that excess of booze and drugs were just part of his way of saying that he just didnt recognize the laws of society, or even realize they existed at all
@noneyageorge85 True...but one thing. The movie made a mistake. Jim was actually of Scottish decent. His fater was Scottish, his mother English...the movive depicted him as Irish in that bar scene prob because most assume the Name Morrison is Irish. The name is actually Scottish but hey, close enough right? lol
@xsupermodel87 oh yeah that's right. i notice that the movie made a lot of mistakes, but still a great movie, and val kilmer does a great job of playing Jim (or at least I think so lol)
@fukhouson Oh I know that, I like this movie a lot. It got me more into the Doors and into Jim. I'm just merely pointing out that it isnt' 100%. Then again, what movie can be 100%? It was Jim!
@HufflepuffTheGreat actually he sang it and in a break in the song he said it, i have herd the actual live version a couple times....but isnt this fuckn song awesome lol
@SmellsLikeReason Hey he did sing when Jim was alive, listen to "You Need Meat, Don't Go No Further" its him singing, and on Close To You, and he sung alot live, to give Jim a break, or if Jim was too drunk to sing.
@RayManzarekGod Also Manzarek did some vocals when the Doors did a few demo recordings in 1965. Listen to "Essential rarities" and you can hear Ray's voice clearly with Jim's.
@beatlesfan831 If it wasnt for Ray, Jim wouldnt be big, if it wasnt for Jim, Ray wouldnt big be, there is kind of a relationship like Lennon/Mccartney, Jim would sing the songs, and Ray would figure out the notes to it, and write in the chords.
Val did a good job on the live singings to sounding like Morrison but as far a s Jim in general not so much. Jim was very smart and they made him look like he was in a 24/7 trip. No question he was a druggie but not like this...
@xsupermodel87 i think its hard to tell where the drugs end and the real jim begins, only because he had that way of being fucked up out of his mind on booze, drugs etc, but at the same time extremely aware of the world around him and what was going on in it, plus being cahrming (probably the irish in him). but i think, unlike many people at that time, that excess of booze and drugs were just part of his way of saying that he just didnt recognize the laws of society, or even realize they existed

And i do believe he was more often than not tripping balls or fucked up beyond all recognition on other triptemines or alcohol.
For those people talking about how this movie sucks and how Stone did a bad job, this scene is extremely accurate. For one, the guy puts the hat on Morrison. There are pics of Morrison from this concert wearing a hat very similar to it. Then there's the sheep. There is a picture of Jim holding one (look in the Break On Through biography). And finally, when he starts talking to the crowd what he says when they TRY to play Touch Me is on an actual recording, which you can find if you look enough.
amazing how someone could make a movie about a jim, and leave out the important stuff, like how smart he was, the fact he was always telling a joke, or reading someting. Somethings wrong here
he said actually after the first part of the song that everyone there was a bunch of fucking idiots.. not in the end...i have the recordings of that show
