When it comes time for me to get a car, if those electric cars aren't mainstream yet, then I'm getting a Honda Insight. The car is low cost, gets incredibly MPG, and it's Japanese-quality!
I guess that last trait doesn't sound so good with the Toyota recall recently, but my still awesome 2002 Honda CRV tells me that I have nothing to fear.
@8150shaf Are you kidding? The Insight has one of the most attractive rear ends on a car. It also provides more interior room and easier access to stored luggage behind the back passenger seats. To each his/her own but I'll pass on the traditional style with less accessibility.
Forget these vehicles, BUY AMERICAN and support our economy here, instead of some other country's economy over seas. When our corporations do well, our economy does well.
I currently have a Civic, and it still runs great! I'm gonna get a Fit [most likely], an insight, or an Accord, or another Civic!! Honda makes excellent cars, good thing I was aware of Toyota's Recall of the pedals. Honda makes sportier-looking cars too which is what I like about them.
It pisses me off royally that Ford, GM and Chrysler even allowed this to happen. They've been making cars for a CENTURY. They should have building cars down to perfect science. They need to dump old of those old foggie management and get young, hip people who want to build ZERO-DEFECT cars.
Yeah, but this is primarily on the highway; it'll get phenomenal mileage between 40 and 60 mph, then it'll taper off to about 45-50 mpg if the road is fairly flat. Stop-and-go traffic will usually get it at 20 to 30 mpg (15 if your foot is heavy).
the previous toyota prius got over 40mpg in stop and go city traffic. i bet the new insight will get over 40mpg in the city with a light foot. because i always get about 24-26 mpg in the city in my family's 2008 civic. the insight can operate on battery power alone in the city which doesn't use any fuel at all
You only buy a hybrid if you are going to drive alot, hundreds of miles a day a you want to help the enviroment. Other than that its just w waste of money. I'm buying a honda fit fit because it costa around 4 to 6 dlls les which I'll used to buy it some wheels and HID ligths. Plus the insigth will pay the diference in gas cost on the fit by an average of 12 year, its always good to own a cheap gas saving car that most people will keep for no more than 10 years
At D&C Honda of Tenafly, New Jersey, I saw the 2010 Honda Insight EX with Navigation System priced at only $22,000! That's an awesome deal considering it's about the same price as a normal Camry, yet gets twice the MPG!
What are the prices like elsewhere in the country? I think, with Honda making the Insight so affordable, it will definitely be a good competitor with the Prius and other new Hybrids!
i would spend less on a hybrid like this car than a prius...because less face it we change car every 5-10 years unless ur one of those weirdo that keeps cars for 20-30 years and dont except change.
I saw that movie I wasn't convinced by much. How else are you going to create power..don't say wind or solar because they will never produce enough energy Also have you given much thought to the lead in your batteries and the effects on that...but drive what ever you feel like it doesn't bother me..
Newer, high performance batteries that you will find in EV's don't use lead. But they do occasionally use Nickel or LI-ion, which is a separate problem.
Yes. As far as I'm aware, no hybrid car (possibly excluding DIY jobs) uses lead-acid batteries as their hybrid battery. Some still use them as normal batteries for their 12V system, for backup, etc.
their built to have very low drag coefficients so that have the little wheels and sloping roofs with the rear end chopped off. It makes it look like a guppy but it's very efficient and is also spacious.
The original insight was offered as a manual or a cvt, the new insight drives standard like a cvt, and also offers manual shifting capability (you get better gas mileage with manual). I believe the smart Fourtwo also offer the same thing, but they call it "automatic-manual".
You should test drive this car.. i found this particular aspect of the driving experience quite awesome actually.
You'd think the econ mode would get the best gas mileage available on the car, not paddle shifters... unless you're talking about transmissions in general, which I agree. I would love to test drive the car, but I don't feel like hassling with car dealers unless I'm really interested in buying soon
"You'd think the econ mode would get the best gas mileage available on the car"
In many conditions, yes, but econ mode can't see the road and can't make predictions like you can such as upcoming grades, traffic etc. So you might start to understand now how the ability to drive like a cvt in econ OR a manual can offer the driver more control to assist the technology that's already there.
I hear ya about salespeople. I put my foot down and let them know I wasn't ready to buy..
The back looks like a 1st gen honda insight to me. Honda really had beat toyota on this design. Sure they only made 2,000 1st gen insights a year, but that doesn't make the toyota prius an original car.. it wasn't. look at the 1st gen prius!!! Where do you think Toyota got the idea for their current Prius?
Too bad you're passing up such an awesome car (I've test driven it twice) for such superficial reasons. The original insight was the a 10 year bug-test... so what are you waiting for??
I currently drive an 08 Civic EXL and have one more year on the loan, this is my (and I'm proud to say) 5th Civic and I'm in no hurry. I have to admit that I haven't test drove one yet but when I get the chance I'll stop by my local dealer and do so just for the knowledge. When I wrote what I thought about this car I'd only seen the prototype @ the LA Car Show and this video but like I said I wasn't to impressed by the inside plastic.
this car actually looks great compared to the styling of the prius..

Liking these Hybrid cars but both this and the new Prius have ugly pop out backs. For that reason, I'm going for the Lexus CT-200h Hybrid.

Honda did have its moment, with this car for like 2 months.
But since the new Prius has been revealed, it has taken most of the hype out of this car.
And in my opinion, the prius, is a more polished and sensible hybrid.

Tesla is the only company that makes 100% electric cars. GO Tesla!!

You do realize that oil companies sell natural gas to generate the energy for an electric car..
EasyEs 2 years ago
are you trying to say that electricity can only be produced by gas?????
oil based cars wear down quickly compared to electric based cars because there are fewer parts. the large companies make lots of money servicing cars.
Search youtube for who killed the electric car

read the article by tesla. search google. they have stated that the batteries are reusable and can give a full charge within 1 hour.
Mobile phone batteries last for years now because they are based on lithium. Tesla uses the same approach.

The answer is: recycle your batteries.
