im going to b a pilot for the uscg after highschool and a degree from ks salina. but imagine the adrenaline rush the rescue swimmers get!!! Semper Paratus!!!!!!!
God that must be the most amazing feeling in the world. Just to be able to say I saved someone's life today at work would be amazing. I tried joining the Coast Guard but I can't due to medical issues.
I am so proud of my son who was accepted into the US Coast Guard Academy, class of 2015. He turns 18 on the day before he is due to report for Swab Summer.
He has expressed a deep desire to fly helicopters.
He has always demonstrated a character that would portend he was/is going to do something special in this world.

I just researched ft lauderdale one 7:00 and there were 3 kids and 8 adults on the boat. 2 adults drowned but all 3 kids lived. 11 people on a bayliner of that size was a recipe for disaster. Without the guard probably 6 to 8 would have died. Heroes
Look closely at about 7:02. The Dad bravely throws his little girl out and pushes/swims her to safety. Great job Dad. May have saved her life. Hope they all lived.
When someone asks, "Do you know where I can find 30,000 people willing to risk their lives to save strangers from death ?" Anytime ! Day or night ! Foul weather ! High Seas ! Ice flows or hurricane winds or ALL OF THE ABOVE. Look no farther than the United States Coast Guard. I am proud to say I was one of those few.

i just made a meeting with a coast guard recruiting in chicago, i was just wondering is it true that when i graduate most likely ill be sent to the bahamas or europe around there? do i get to choose were to be stationed?
Brighteye 15, the US Coast Guard is only stationed in the United States and Puerto Rico. We go where we are needed, but there are no stations in Europe or the Bahamas.
The United States Coast Guard it the most Under Appreciated branch in the United States Armed Forces, but they don't need someone patting their back telling them they are doing a great job cause they already know.
This is true to a point. The United States Coast Guard is the department of Homeland security which was introduced after 9/11 before that is was the department of transportation. a little fun fact
in 1911 the Coast Guard offically became a branch of the U.S. Military and in 2003 the Coast Guard offically became a branch in the Department of Homeland Security
Pretty much every country in the world has a coast guard of sorts. Some better than others, but no matter what, if you're in danger at sea, the guys who come to your rescue in all weather are the coast guard. Great job guys.
@michael13374 I am too. I hear that its nearly impossible to become a member of search and rescue. but that's my goal, and i'm going to fight for it no matter what, saving lives here in America.
USCG retired 22 yrs & I must say these are NOT the top 10 rescues of all time. Flew HH3Fs & HH65A. The conditions are usually so severe in the more serious rescues that no one is thinking about filming. You're extremely focused on the task & doing it without trashing you and your crew. Not poopooing these. They are what those of us in the CG do & a fine job they do. I have quite a few pieces of video worth seeing. Anyone interested in converting them, let me know.
Thank you for posting this reminder of the bravery being shown and sacrifices being made while we are usually going about our normal daily routine. I am thanking God for these men and women, and asking him to continue to bless and protect them!
my dad has been in the coast guard for 23 years. He is currently the CO of the USCG Steadfast. He showed me a video the the EO took during a rescue mission. This video is nothing compared to the video he showed me.
in the worst conditions and situations with greatest risk to life there isn't usually someone on standby with a video camera. plus they are something like 300years old
Wow... its amazing that a rescue was even attempted on a few of these, but even more amazing is that they were successful! The US Coast Guards' are true heros!
I got disqualified from the Coast Guard for no reason, the way I see it the Coast Guard Lost its chance to get a one in a million guy, and for them, I feel sorry.
i have never needed the coast guard during our pleasure boating, but it is nice to know these young men and women are there when needed. god bless you all
My Life Guard Instructure has been in the Coast Guard for 7 years now. His name is Chris. He's a very nice guy and I respect people who put their lives on the line to rescue other people in need. STAY SAFE COAST GUARD RESCUERS!
Great footage and some truly awesome work on the rescue swimmers part. So Others May Live is the slogan of the US Navy SAR program. Semper Paratus (Always Prepared) is The Coast Guard Slogan. Bravo Zulu to all the Coasties from a former navy helo crew chief who wasn't a sar swimmer but has been out on a couple of sar calls.
Awesome video. Anyone know the story of the boat that hit the concrete dock? It seemed like there were a lot of old people on board, perhaps a tour boat. Hope they got out okay.
I was stationed in Kodiak, Alaska when the 378 foot High Endurance Cutter WHEC-719 "Boutwell" docked for a brief period just prior to responding to the "Prinsendam" emergency in this video. Boutwell conducted the largest at-sea rescue ever attempted when she took on over 500 people from the burning cruise ship. Made me proud to be in the Coast Guard.
its not all fun and games its saving lives and hard work u have to lay ur life down so save other people most ppl dnt make it in so u have 2 work hard and maybe u could be like those heros they are dead brave
To the Coxswain during the rescue of the gambler, outstanding control. To Dowling1981, the USCG fights for your freedom right next to the US Navy. We have to have a CG member on out vessel boarding teams, so before you run your mouth, learn the facts.
CG is awesome! All those haters need to take a step back and see what the CG really does, contrary to all the shit they get. They obviously guards coasts, as well as borders, rescue people, law enforcement, and in war time they do port security in foreign lands. They aren't under the DOD, but rather DHS which is a better fit.

I want to be the best I can at saving all the people in those type of situations, just like those great men you saw in this video.
Great video! It would have been great if you were able to include the rescue of the 36' MLB saving the crew of that ship in 60' waves back in the 50's!
@1decimal8tango you're right about the coast guard motto being "Semper Paratus" (always prepared) but the rescue swimmer motto actually is "So others may live"
@CrashAndBurn35 I was addressing the folks saying the CG motto was "so others may live". Also Semper Paratus means "Always Ready", not always prepared.
The #7 "Oregon Beach Inlet" was actually just off the north jetty of Newport, Oregon. Two men in an aluminum skiff capsized in the surf, and weren't wearing lifejackets. A tourist just happened to be out on the jetty with his video camera, and took that amazing footage of the two men being rescued. I was there on the jetty, as part of the CG crew...the helicopter dropped the man that they picked up off with us, and we delivered him to an ambulance. Everyone in the crew did a great job!
You get paid 200 bucks a month more for hazardous duty pay... I think it's BS the rest of the crew doesn't get it. We had 4 shipmates lose their lives in Hawaii 2 weeks ago, we all risk it. I realize swimmers put a bit more out there, but the rest of the crew put our lives on the line also.
Pretty good, but for real action these videos can't compare with Farley Mowat's book "Gray Seas Under," about the Canadian sea-going salvage tug "Franklin" operating out of Nova Scotia during World War Two. Radios were only used in the most dire emergencies, because radioed locations attracted U-boats. And that was before helicopters. They even had a close encounter with a U-boat.
im going to b a pilot for the uscg after highschool and a degree from ks salina. but imagine the adrenaline rush the rescue swimmers get!!! Semper Paratus!!!!!!!
