funny thing is, if frank would have hit ole borg with his fist then the knive would not of came out. the chair was used and ole borg knew the knife was fair enough. old school
it is the role they were referring to.But that is a myth.Eli wallach was the original choice for the role but they gave it to sinatra because he had a 28 inch waist and wallach was to muscular.

Curios to know what went on between takes..was Sinatra singing,Lancaster doing hand stands, superman pretending to rip a phone book in half.Monty coming on to 1 of the young stand ins, borg offering to cut everyone's hair...
@deriter64 Absolutely, 100% right ! This,i believe,is the GREATEST movie in Burt Lancaster's career ! Totally Americana, and this scene, i again believe, is the best scene in the entire movie.Patriotism ? You cant beat this classic !
@alzahad Thanks. I don't think I've ever been disapointed with a performance by self-taught Burt Lancaster, from film noir to the Swimmer, which depressed me no end.Even his mostly forgotten portrayal of the dynamiter in The Professionals is breathtaking. And Ulzana's Raid is one of the grittiest westerns ever made. Incidentally, I've never walked along the beach at Waikki or chugged around the Arizona memorial without thinking about that strange, innocent time of From Here To Eternity.
Don't think you can spoil it,the novel came out b4 the movie plus this has been around for ages,as for posting the whole movie ,most public libraries have a copy of this.
This is great, one of my favorite old movies of all time. Just with they had the fight scene between "Pruitt and Galovich''. Mongomery Clift was Pruitt, don't know who played Galovich.

xander7ul, the guy standing in front of, and to the left of the Chinese guy, played Superman in the old T.V. series.

Burt Lancaster was from 106th st, (I believe between 2nd and 3rd Ave) East Harlem NY.

If Sinatra hadn't gone to the Stockade as was foreshadowed here, then he wouldn't have won his oscar! (hope i'm not spoiling anything).

Ernest Borgnine, Frank Sinatra, Montgomery Clift...small potatoes. Nobody fucks with Burt Lancaster!

@cschnei08 Lancaster said his mother, who was 5'10" 200 lbs, was the toughest person in his New York City neighborhood. He was for real tough.
