She truly was gorgeous and a natural beauty. I came to HOllywood many years ago but never saw her in person. I did see Elizabeth Taylor and she was drop dead gorgeous. Her coloring was unbelievable. A natural also. I think Vivien Leigh was beautiful, as well. They all have the perfect features and incredible eyes.  I would add Ava Gardner and Linda Darnell to the list of lovelies. The only resemblance I see between Hedy Lamarr and Vivien Leigh is that they both had dark hair and light eyes (color). Both women were beautiful but in different ways. Of the two I'd say Hedy was more womanly and her features were so much more chiseled than Vivien who was by no means a slouch. However I will have to agree with "stitchgrl777's" observation of Vivien Leigh's hands. They were rather big.

Yes, Hedy was gorgeous. The tragedy I find with too many Hollywood actresses, is either the fame gets to their head, or trying to live up to the expectations of the public crushes them.

Too many of them have had breakdowns, even become suicidal because they couldn't keep what they once had.

Hedy is truly stunning. But, if you wish, take a close look at Kathryn Grayson when she was young. For me, a moment of grace descended upon me, but now when I see this Hedy, I feel she is equal, but as beauty is in the eye of the beholder, I tend to leand towards Kathryn, the youth and innosence in her eyes, gazing curiously. There are lots of american born actresses which I find superior in beauty than Hedy Lamarr, or other european actresses like Marlene Dietrich or Greta Garbo. Just now I'm thinking of the gorgeous Gene Tierney, the perfect Grace Kelly, the exotic Lauren Bacall, or the sultry Ava Gardner. I find their beauty refreshing, upbeat and modern. On the other hand european born actresses sometimes look oppressive, decadent, it's hard to define what differentiates them. It's a matter of personal taste!

To be honest, both opinions are probably right! It's true that Austria was very willing to murder their Jewish citizens.(So was almost every European nation.) But, it's also true that a number of former Austrian Jews missed the Viennese culture that they enjoyed before the rise of the Third Reich. Vienna had been their home for so many years, and it was a city of high culture and education, along with a history of anti-jewish behavior.
