  • ok, so how many times will i try to hover over things in your video before i realize it won't work!

  • there is now a private server called Project 1999, if you look it up on google you will find it easily. it takes everquest BACK before the planes. its free as long as you own the game.

  • Wow, in the first screenshot of the interface fighting Naggy, I recognized the name Blackgallon, so I looked more. My character is Elari and is in the group there too. What a coincidence.

  • eq was my first game too, it's why i got a computer lol.

  • Dude, check out EQ 1999, its free and its EQ classic if you people really want to play it.

  • @Drbolla345

    Aye, Project1999 ftw!

  • @Drbolla345 its so good! I stopped like 4months ago thom but always log in to talk to people and plan on playing again soon. They added epics =D.

  • Macros in EQ;

Still like the macroing better in EQ than in WoW, it was more useful/powerful.

    Meditating with open book;

You had to do it up to level 35, after that when you hit "meditate" you just sat down.

    Memorizing spell;

Took about 20 ish seconds per new spell, but i agree it felt like minutes ...

Nice vid, brings back alot of memories .. keep em coming, looking forward to some ST raids? =)

  • I played eq for 7 years, and eq2 for 6. :) cool vid!

  • I think they fixed that early on, where you just had to be sitting to meditate. It makes sense though! That's one thing I miss in eq2 there is no meditating. It made it more realistic to me. I always played Gems while I meditated LOL!

  • That was very good! Very informative, just what I was looking for. I never played EverQuest, but for a long time I've wanted to know what it was like.

  • A STRING OF SERIES! HOW META!!!

  • Sony didnt make EQ did tthey?? I always thought Verant Interactive did if i remember right

  • @2014hooah Verant was a sub-company of sony and created everquest controlling the servers and support for the first couple of years until sony wanted to take over control of everything online and created SOE.

  • @damjjgjgjg ahhh i see,excuse my confusion xD

  • @2014hooah No big deal, just answering your question. I remember when i first started playing EQ wyen i was 9 everyone HATED verant, servers were down, lag lag lag, broken quests and mobs. Then SOE took over, and it just got worse, and worse... It seemed that everyone who had wished verant dead, now wished they were back.

  • @damjjgjgjg hehe, yeah i was really young when i started playing EQ,im playing on this one emu server close enough to classic its alright there arent a whole lot of people though.

  • @2014hooah Yeah, verant was SoE if I remember right.

  • Great great Video mate! Started to play in 2002, and still going strong :)

  • I miss that feeling that Everquest gave me. It was like waking up to a new world. Just seeing that screenshot of the oldschool UI brings back so much nostalgia.

  • Hey, cool video. I started playing EQ in the spring of 2001. I love seeing old EQ screen shots (I saved many myself) and was addicted to EQ for a few years until finally quitting in early 2004. I recall that "medding" without the open spellbook in our face happened between summer-fall of 2001 before Luclin came out, I can't remember the exact month.

  • great vid, i started when the UI was able to be re-sized and moved and started to become transparent, honestly i would have enjoyed this more as i grew up if i started at 6 and played til now when i'm 17, i love EQ i played from 10-13 and now from 17 on because i cant get enough to make it loose intrest to me

  • Corpse Walking, or losing all your items w/o a way to get them back...

  • EQ Classic had an awful UI and lots of problems that are unacceptable by today's standards. But, just like with UO, a lot of the good memories come from battling with a game's quirks and laughing with friends.

  • @Shodex4 to me you cant Compared UO anywhere to EQ hands down imo Everquest Started what mmos want to be today .

  • @vycon88 Oh without a doubt. But UO still had a very strong influence on the genre. And they're both excellent MMORPGs, much better then the trash we get today.

  • such good times growing up back then

  • Project 1999, Google it, love it, enjoy it.

  • wow everquest(a.k.a. evercrack) was the best mmo ever back in the day before god when sony ruined it.

  • good times =)

  • My first fantasy game-Warlords!

  • man I miss high keep ... oh man I still remember the old mage pets

the new ones look cool but I miss my blobs lol

  • lol, as a Magician back when the game launched, I remember that spell book. You just got used to it over time, I don't have any negative feelings toward it today. The downtime in EQ, which is so dreaded these days, did a lot to force people to hang back and socialize for a bit, building a community. With instant teleports and regeneration these days, you don't get that.

"train train, woo woo, move it or RIDE IT!" - I still remember that warning word for word all these years later.

  • @Daemonocracy WARNING?? The only train warning I gave was "LOL" as I feigned in front of you.

  • @Dakarn Damn Rangers!

  • @Daemonocracy Rangers? Monk! (Or Shadowknight... had both)

Besides. . . Rangers didn't feign. They tripped over their feet and died.

  • @Daemonocracy Rangers didn't feign. They tripped and died. I was a Monk. lol

  • not looking at the spellbook while you meditated was a skill you learned at a certain level - 40 maybe?

  • never learned transparent UI?

  • Hell yeah!Falling off the boat when it would zone.Going to that tunnle in the commons to trade. You had to type out the all the stats of items and weapons.Ports from druids and wizzys.Oh! Hearing train to zone! in Crushbone.

  • You said you didn't remember how often you had to learn spells. It was every 4 levels.

  • I started EQ right after Luclin came out. There was no Plane of Knowledge. You either had to run where you wanted to go or find a druid to port you.. nothing like it is now. I've been playing for 9 years.. still going strong.

  • Amazing video man it's nice to see that others feel the same way about original eq.. That spellbook used to get me raging haha good times per say :P

  • damn thats old school

  • Wow, played EQ when it was first released in Australia. Played it to Velious. Memories, memories... !!

  • My God this brings back memories

  • Man this brings back a lot lol

  • I've gone back to Playing EQ Classic, as it was, via Everquest Project 1999. Well awesome!

  • you all cant forget Linage.. 1 and 2..

  • Classic EQ interface is still better then wows default UI

  • shit what's this song called

i know it's 50 cent but i forget... it used to be on my ipod

  • i think all the simplicity of the game in its original form, including the huge buff icons which i still recognize to this day, is rather endearing. i'll never get the feeling back i got from a game when i started eq in sept of 99

  • @phoenixfire8226 Oh yes, I had some very fond memories. I was very successful and even stole some accounts and stripped their gear. Back then, you couldn't do anything about it to get it back. Hopefully some suicides were the result.

  • I miss playing my lvl 47 Enchanter >.< I was KOS in Freeport, but had fun beguiling every guard and having them fight each other XD

The one thing that I miss doing, more than ANYTHING, was the fact that you could actually KILL the guards and merchants ^^ You cant do that today with all the other MMOs

  • I must admit although I've never played Eq and only WoW, it is blatantly obvious WoW and every other MMorpg just ripped it off, but although they stole the design they did add their own flare and improvements. But I would've loved to have played this.

  • @Gouled96 You still can. The servers are not closed down.

  • I miss my Troll ShadowKnight with Fungi Tunic and SSB. And doing repeat Stein of Moggok quests, and ripping people off selling Fungi Tunic for like 50K, but putting in a Large Cloth Tunic, since the icon looked exactly the same, I would put the Fungi in trade first...let them see the stats and then cancel it and say "ahh shit sorry" then put in the Large Cloth Tunic and I'd say 4/10 would work. So many good times. Hell, even selling Clarity buffs for gold/platinum.

  • @Bokuza yea stealing from people is cool ya fuckin sociopath. i bet you ruined some of their good memories of the game that you're so fond of reminiscing about yourself. scumbag.

  • If you look up Insomnia in the dictionary, you will see that it originated from playing Everquest 10 years ago.

  • im 14 started EQ at 3 lol best game ever

  • EQ1 was good. But UO prior to the Renaissance expansion was the best MMO ever.

  • i started playing this right b4 everquest 2 came out

  • i liked this video :) i actually remember all that stuff too haha. but i didnt play a caster way back then so i didn't have any spell book taking up my whole screen. imma keep watchin this series

  • About 8:30, you talk about when you learned new spells it took a while and said " memorizing "

I only played EQ for a little but, i swore the "Memorizing...." was when you wen't to put the spell on your Spell Bar, not when you learned it.

Might be wrong, but it has been a while.

  • @Blizzard56k you know, i'm pretty sure that doesn't matter one bit.

  • @Rubberee Sure it does..Why would anyone watch the video if none of it was true?

  • Miss old Everquest ? Type project1999 in google if you want to play classic Everquest again! Classic, Kunark and Velious! No Luclin or further...its AWESOME! :)

  • @Nedala88 playing on P99 myself and having the time of my life.

  • Man I played the when the Iksar came out, the bad ass Iksar Monk! I got him to level 60! That was awesome for me. I was hated by every guard as I killed everything and everyone, and even in duels I was invdestructable hehe. I remember killing the Silver Griphon by myself for the first time ever and it was an accomplishment. I miss my monk....I haven't played since WoW, so account is probably deleted now, and to many expansion to try playing...=(

  • SOE made GM`s if it wasnt for Everquest 1 World of Warcraft wouldnt be made thats what i think.

  • The spell system still killed me. You forgot the major pain. Buy the spell, scribe the spell to the book, then mem it. took forever

  • I love your vid never played EQ but I always wanted to plus I do play WOW a lot and they seem a lot alike. Keep up the good work man.

  • @SuperNeo1989 EQ is the harder and better one of course though WoW is EQ major easy mode

  • The spellbook was not needed after lvl 40 something i think it was :) but they removed it completly later on. But that was a reward to get past it :)

  • Play "Project 1999", its classic EQ all the WAY! EC tunnel auctions ftw, give it a google search

  • EQ is merging servers again in a couple of weeks. I'll be reactivating my account in about a week to get it ready for the merge.

    Ursala - Stromm

  • Me too. I love EQ! <3 <3 <3

I wish I had had the foresight to save all my special screen shots of game play, my toons, my friends.. but I didn't. Now I only have memories. It makes me cry.

I started on Kane Bayle Server. My main was Liddy (first toon to 65) a human monk. Then a Gnome Rogue named Teakie. after that servers were merged .. went to Stromm. Now my main is Ursala Ogre Beastlord. Haven't played in months.. haven't regularly played in years. I miss the community. Great people.

  • @lykopis If anyone recognizes these toons .. say hello =)

  • If you were a die-hard Everquest old-school fan, there are still private classic servers out there. I advise you to look into Protect 1999 which is run through EQEmu. It has 500+ players online at a time during peak hours.

  • EQ was amazing, except for the assholes that used EQ as a fucking single's chat and did nothing but sit in the fucking PoK and flirt and use stupid hug emotes. I remember some of the players on Tunare did nothing but that. I wanted to fucking slap them. I remember one chick in particular spammed the hug emote constantly to this dude she never met IRL, fucking idiot slut.

  • @Rushthatspeaks Oh yeah her name was Lethy. Lethy if you're out there go fuck yourself, you vapid whore.

  • @Rushthatspeaks EQ had a lot of RPers.. even on regular servers. A lot of older players and a lot of female players.

    Why So Serious?

  • @lykopis I gotta clarify a few things. Flirting shamelessly in a chat is NOT roleplaying. RP is fine I like it, that means you're getting into the game. Hugging and using the kissy huggy emotes and abusing them is NOT roleplaying, its acting like a shameless whore and it ruins my gameplay when Im raiding and I have to have my chat spammed with that shit.

Remember EQ all we had was the chat text...so when I had to endure that shit, yeah it pissed me off.

  • @Rushthatspeaks I understand.

  • int caster got new spells every 4 levels wis casters every 5 lol

  • I remember camping my monks epic piece in Lguk for a week.

  • Most MMOs followed EQ's example. There was a one main difference between EQ and UO though that I haven't really seen duplicated, the only mainstream game that came close was Star Wars Galaxies, and maybe Eve and Darkfall Online but I havent played either of those, and that was that UO was more of an MMO sand box than a role playing game. By this I mean, EQ was linear, you had a lot of options but you had to do one thing before another. UO you started off more or less with access to everything.

  • /gems

    Old school spellcasters know this.

  • @Ticriss87 /gems.... oh my god you just gave me a flashback/mindfuck

  • not enough diversity on everquest, wow ftw

  • Original EQ was so masochistic. I love it. Kids these days don't know about death loops that take you from max to 6 overnight, corpse runs that cost you all your time, hours upon hours spent regenning, the length of a true "run", oh, and lest we forget, losing all your gear because you couldn't find your corpse in time and having to start over from scratch. WOW is so easymode by comparison it's ridiculous, and it's only getting easier

  • still the best mmo ever

  • EQ really was crack.... people lost jobs, family, friends and even lives lol....

  • project1999 (dot) org

classic eq 500+ (unboxed) players and growing since oct 2009, kunark release oct 2010

  • well if u guys are like me feel their heart bleed for old days of eq i have a good new for ya you need to try this free server of everquest in on Eqemu do a serch on google about eq project1999 and come play in this server its just like they old days and there will be 2 expantion released kunark and velious and then no more its the classic Goodies of eq my nam is eldormanix in game let me know if you join so then i know that my message worked :) thx

  • You received new spells every 4 levels if I recall.

  • Great job! I still think about my /train to zone macro and spamming my /corpse macro to recover a corpse for a friend while hiding and sneaking as quietly as a cat stalking it's prey... hehe =)

  • In kunark you could just sit down to meditate.

  • so can any computer play everquest?

  • Nice, I played from Kunark - Velious and those were some great times. EQ was the best back then.

  • this is a great game people that are starting on wow are failing now u needed to start from EQ or UO

  • i feel sorry for all the youngsters today who only started playing MMOs on WOW.

Classic EQ is the most truly MMO experience.

  • @xdyjetx thank u for knowing that makes me feel good that some people know this

  • Well said.

  • @xdyjetx from MMO aspect-maybe,yes.From RPG aspect-UO beats everything,even WoW

  • @xdyjetx Man i play WoW currently and some other mmo's but i would have LOVED to get a chance to play the old Everquest,Ultima online and some others. To bad i missed it :(

  • @xdyjetx

yep I agree, I miss the old everquest, it was a great game

  • @xdyjetx check project1999 (dot) org, welcome back to 1999 my friend

  • @xdyjetx No shit eh.. WoW sucks.

I started in MUD's, but the first graphic MMO I played was Ultima Online (the first real popular MMO). After that, EQ1, and I still play EQ1 even today!

  • @xdyjetx dude right there with ya... eq1 pre luclin was easily the best mmo ever made.

  • @xdyjetx man I completely agree. I will never forget that "feeling" everquest gave me when I first stepped into innuthule swamp and hearing the frogloks. Or the fear of going deep into guk, or when leveling in the oasis with Sand Giants and Spectres everywhere. So much nostalgia!

  • @xdyjetx I know right its friggin sad i found EQ while loking for an mmo and i was blown away on how fun it was usually i dont have the time to devote to mmos but i made time for EQ

  • @xdyjetx EQ2 Failed miserably though so let's just say WoW is EQ 2. Lol

  • @xdyjetx The very first MMO I ever played was a game called Knights Online before I made the move to WoW shortly afterwards. Now I'm trying to find a game to replace WoW since WoW treated me so badly.

  • @xdyjetx i wish i played Ultima online....

  • @xdyjetx Too true.

  • @xdyjetx Absolutly

  • @xdyjetx Everquest made me the man I am today.

  • @xdyjetx I'm 15 years old, and I only play old school RPGs. They're the best. :P Ultima Online, Everquest, Neverwinter, Morrowind. Hell, Daggerfall, Ultima: Underworld, Ultima 7&8.

  • @xdyjetx Yea all the kids got it easy today

  • yea bro keep going with eq...brings back good memories. never raided...i only got to level 39. i sucked now that i think about it...

  • damn...blast from the past. my dad n i started this game back when i was 7 or 8 so yea bout 1999 or 2000. barely remember anything besides my dad struggling with it at first. eventually we fell in love with it tho.

  • Man that video really brings back memories... God damn... That was some good shit!! I soaked up every second!!

  • damn, I remember having to stare into your spellbook while medding. lol

Then being mad when noobs didn't need to do it anymore.

  • i have to correct him on this one though. it was released by Verant in 1999 SoE didnt come along till like 2001

  • Verant was always a subsidary of Sony

  • *tears* NOTHING beats old EQ NOTHING...not WoW..not EQ2, not even clsoe.

  • god this brings back memories, I started playing right before scars of velious came out and played for about 5 years, i remember leveling in butcherblock mountains then heading to the estate of unrest also HHK (high hold keep) all those places where cool

  • @oonemesisoo1337 good times .. spent so much time in HHK lol

  • My hubby and I started playing right around LDoN came out, so I stuck with that UI, and have to keep redoing my custom UI every expansion. Now we have like 7 accounts between us. LOL. Don't get to play much anymore though.

    Nice tubes!!

  • its awsome!!!

  • I want to see a tribute to all the hated KillStealers doing their best to keep up!

We had it very hard, ignored by half the server, very few friends, booted from every guild... no phat l3wts /emote cry

  • While the UI defaulted to what is seen in the video, you could always change the view to full screen, which solved many of the viewing problems.

  • you must have been around 13 years old when it cam out? anyways nice vids keep it up : )-

  • OMFG iam so pissed i just learn about ever-quest and hearing how it was awesome and now there just so much crap to play or whatever

  • this video brings back days of raiding on the tunare server.. Yes first UI of EverQuest was crazy but you had to learn you class due to the spell limits etc..

  • @mevfd17 Sweet! I was on Tunare as well Level 56 dwarf pally Binadur Split

  • omg i still play EQ on quellious names Dendelof dedemancer denger if ya know me reply to this comment

  • What Server?

  • @MistressCheii quillious rodekt knife

  • Dude, keep the EQ videos coming! I love this shit. I played in the 2001-2002 timeframe (I was level 30 when Luclin came out) and got all the way up to a level 60 enchanter with my epic. I'm so happy to see there're other people online who love those EQ Classic days!

  • good job bro, I played this game right when it came out and im 16 now LOL i was a gamer since day one. Continue the good work! i enjoy the videos!

  • Re:Spell book - I used to have my volume all the way up so I'd know if any mobs are coming after me while I med, lol. Good times...good times!

  • So I played EQ for about 8 years... I miss the old game so much... oh and the spells were every four levels for int casters so lvl 1, lvl 4, lvl 8, and for wisdom casters it was lvl 1, lvl 5, lvl, 9 etc... btw great vid

  • You can play classic EQ now. Go to Project 1999.

  • Nice vid, hope to catch more of your stuff. Started playing July 99. I played about 5 years but it just got too time consuming. Too many expansions and destruction of the old world graphics and revamps peeved me. Had 2 70 th level toons Wizzie and Necro. Both epic with solid gear which now would probably be junk heh. My first toon was a wiz, boy was that a mistake. I wanted the DSP king LOL! Yeah... Tough to get groups.

  • wow it must've been crazy playing this game in the old days.i like how you talked about the spell book to haha that was funny as shit.good episode review 10 out of 10 keep it up bro

  • The Old Spell Book was also amusing in the way that there were intricate designs taking up half the book's interface. And you had less spots for spells, which is fine because there were less spells.

Anyway, thanks for this look back at the old GUI. I think most of it changed when Luclin came out. I think Brad McQuade stopped exec. producing this game and they had a change of direction with the game. They've changed producers just about every other expansion ever since.

  • I feel so nostalgic looking at this, and I never even played eq! There's just something about those chunky 90's graphics that I love.

  • if you hit F10 you could change the interface. it was alot better :)

  • Back when it first came out, F10 didnt do anything. That was a patch they put in.

  • Project1999 . org

Classic EQ is not dead!! Come relive some greatness.

  • you look like this guy i know who sells weed for a living

  • Guildwars is 8 spells only lol ... no shitting around :P

  • You stopped looking at the spellbook for meditate at level 20 or 30 in original EQ.

  • Comment removed

  • someone smokes weed..

  • EQ was an amazing game for it's time and is still alot of fun to go back to. I played for about 6 years as an Iskar monk.

  • hey me too! iskar monks 4 life :)

  • I don't remembe the spellbook, but that's just because it has b een so long. I played between march 99 and june about. I just don't remember the spellbook. I did come back in late 99 or early 2000 and I remember at some point using fullscreen. I liked it a lot. It was nice and simple. The thing I don't like very much is that over the years the interface has become heavily cluttered and hard to manage. I wish it was simpler so I could play my char rather than play the interface.

  • I don't see how you can not remember the spellbook way back when, unless you were playing a melee class...It was mainly a caster thing, cause of spells and mana, etc...

I remember being at crossroads in Butcher Block where i was only like lvl 11 with my cloth covered wizzy hoping to hell a big bad beetle or that orc runner wouldn't see me while I had my nose in the spell book...There was no way around it..

  • WOW ! forgetten what it looked liked :)

  • LOL yes

the interface is super basic YET very very classic =)

  • You look totally baked haha.

    Cute cat btw.

  • ahem you forgot diablo II which i played... i remeber a lot of my friends played that on the west coast from 1999 to 2004 i never got into EQ but i know a lot of my WOW friends from the midwest who loved it.

  • Ah the good ole days!

  • I was addicted to a MMRPG call EverQuest, for over ten years. but quit over a year ago.

Just the damage it caused in those ten years I will never be able to get back.

over 20 hrs everyday starting from 7 years old to just over 17 years old. I warn all just reformat your Hard Drive and put the disc in the microwave before setting it on fire. After that seek a consular and slowly start removing yourself from all connections of the game.

I will tell you it is not easy, and very hard to quit it.

  • wtf were you doing playing eq at 7? are your parents that retarded? i watched my parents play eq since i was 11, im 21 now, i just started playing it 3 years ago and i play for 2-4 hours a week, its only addictive to someone who is to weak minded to control themselves. dumb ass.

  • Comment removed

  • I'm having a nostalgia overload watching this video. I played EverQuest starting opening day, and remember this super-classic interface all too well.

The guild chat thing made me laugh. Yeah, it was like 255 green... Eye-bleedingly bright. But THEN I remembered when they finally released the transparent, customizable interface (sometime in Kunark?). Now THAT was awesome.

Such amazing memories with this game. Nothing else will ever come close.

  • Why did you use the windowed mode? You could hit F10 for full screen, YES even in classic. You still had to stare at the book/windowed interface when medding.

I don't understand why anyone used the windowed interface.

  • How is WoW's interface more "classic"?

  • faggot
