  • what else does it do besides reading?

  • so hipster: the kindle with the news paper & coffee

  • Go to my page to earn easy points which can be redemed for anything on amazon. (Link in description - under website) The points you earn can be redemed for cash through paypal, check, etc. There are no viruses on the site and all personal information will be kept safe.

  • Some journalism, After all the specs he still doesn't give the name of the new model !!! Thanks Nick Barber... very helpful.

  • @mehdianim That's because Amazon doesn't give model numbers. This is just the Kindle, like every Kindle before. It's the 3rd gen so reviewers/sellers are calling it the Kindle 3.

  • This kindle ibook has page numers, right??? coz the old one hadn't and it was stressful. how long will we have to wait for it?? i'm from Europe

  • @Carol88SpB if your ebook has page numbers or not depends on the book and if the publishers allowed/added page numbers. the kindle itself has the possibility, yes, but it's not always the case :)

  • @rapesomeface oh danke schön:) i'm gonna buy it!!!!!!!

  • i have built a wishlist on Amazon over time... now that i have some money saved up i will go with the kindle and buy those books after..thank you amazon

  • cool

  • can you buy any book in the world for the kindle? e.g can you buy children's books and also do the books stay on your kindle for ever? like do they go in like a month? can someone please answer my question?

  • @BotzRus the books stay on unless u delete them, u can get childrens books and u can get all the books that are on the amazon store just slightly cheaper they call that 'kindle price' does that answer ur question?

  • Amazon releases cheaper ad-supported Kindle. For details, go to Facebook and search "ereader" to access the ereader community page for the latest news and offers.

  • Hey people good collection of kindle books i found just visit :

    warezsokol ( dot )com /search / label / kindle

  • MOMMABOY on Amazon.com .. This book is sick!!!!!

  • Can u download music and videos

  • @Packapunchme247 No. It's a dedicated e-reader. If you want to download music and videos get an iPad.

  • now all become easier

  • I never liked reading books but when i bought this i love reading now.

  • i wanna buy it i wish it's nice

  • @FlareOfDawn Thanks a lot buddy. I am in for buying it:)

  • Are there free books or articles already in Kindle or one is required to buy from the websites?

  • @extremeboy73 You can get LOTS of free books for Kindle. Many authors promote their work by having it free for a limited time (it helps them rank as top sellers, so it's better than paying for advertising) You can also put PDF books on your Kindle :)

  • @BookLending I found that Amazon free book scheme applies only within the USA region. Else, you have to pay a cost. There are very few choices for kindle users staying outside the USA. However, I have downloaded lots of books for my new Kindle. Thanks to various third party websites. Love them!!

  • I did a lot of research and watched alot of reviews before buying an e-reader. But did you know that you can not use the Kindle to access FREE books from your local library using Overdrive. We all pay taxes that allow us to borrow free books from our local library and that does include new and latest bestsellers. Check out Overdrive website for a list of devices that allow you to borrow e-books from your library. Check with your local library and see if they offer e-books, some might not.

  • is the 3g one free for 3g? or you have to get a sim card? and can you use it to watch videoes on youtube? downlod movies to it? and what is the size of memory? thank you very much :)

  • @LegendaryRespawns yes and u dont need a sims card and yes and yes i have one so fun

  • i get one tomorrow.... woo hooo,

well not me, i bought it for my wife.

    ........

can hope she gets me something nice for my birthday......... please.

  • Do you get to keep the books you buy from Amazon for life for the kindle? or do they get erase like in a year or so?. Like to know before i buy it Ty..

  • I had a Kindle for Xmas ( love to bits). I downloaded loads of free books. I'm a bit of a Churchill nut and a mate of mine recommended a book called What Churchill Would Do, I have avoided buying books so far (no point with so much free stuff) but it was dirt cheap so I thought I would give it a go. It was a really great book, loads of war stuff and some interesting and different business advice. Not the usual drivel you get . Worth checking out when you get a chance.

  • can you upload your own book ? from pc

  • @hakeris4 I saw this on 10 Features in the Kindle 3 You Didn't Know About "Free PDF document delivery – To email a PDF to your Kindle, but avoid any kind of 3G delivery fees, tack @ free.kindle.com onto your email address. The file will only be downloaded over Wi-Fi."

  • So, wildredhorse works for free I suspect...

  • You have to buy books?!?!? After you spend that much for it?!?!?

  • @wildredhorse You don't understand this whole Economy thing do you?

  • @wildredhorse there are alot of good books out there that u can find for free on the kindle store so its not that bad

  • I got one today! Too

  • I got it today!

  • When they zoomed into the women reading it, all I could see were her boobs. It's not my fault

  • i got 1 !!!

  • purchase your own kindle with huge discount!

    /watch?v=0NLzj1nziOw

  • watch?v=Fo70scy41Z8 GET YOURS HERE

  • The Ipad is much better

  • I've heard people say if you get the Wifi and 3G model, the books cost more to download. Is this true?

  • @TehZombieChef Well no. Besides the 3G model being $189 (as appose to the wifi only model being around $130) books are the same cost on both models. It wouldn't make sense if one model's stuff was more expensive, either, since both models use the same kindle store.

  • I already have one of these.

  • I prefer to read a real book. It brings emotions, this thing doesnt

  • @xBchify but books are flammable

  • Comment removed

  • @xBchify to buy books at whatever time. Its worth it if you like reading.

  • @xBchify It's the words and the readers imagination that "brings emotions" not the paper it's printed on. I still have a vinyl record collection ( yes I'm that old), but you can't beat the convienience of an mp3 player.

  • @xBchify How is this any different? They are the same books, so shouldn't they inspire the same emotions?

  • its funny that the highest rated comments is by the same guy

  • @moonshiry its also the same comment!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • My 2 cents: I have the nook and I checkout ebooks for free from the library all the time. I rarely have paid for an ebook and I have read many of the new releases (some usually on a waiting list, but nonetheless free reading). I believe the kindle does not support the library ebook formats. So if you want free reading, get a NOOK. It will save you lots of money in the long run, which makes it more fun.

  • Mine is coming in a few days. 3G, Graphite, brown leather cover with LED light.

I can't wait! So glad I waited for this one. The older versions were obviously not as good.

  • soooooooooooooooooooooooo, is it worth it? should i get one?

  • the future is here

  • perfect

  • not sure i want another elec. device in my purse, cool, and slick and cheap as it might be.

    sorry, amazon.

  • nook is better

  • @MultiOliver5 Sure is......

  • Comment removed

  • i just got one yesterday for my bday . i love my kindle <3

  • Anyone know how to delete a book from the new device. Having problems. When you hit the right button it says " add to home", with the right button, nothing at all. Got mine today and they actually gave me the white when I wanted the graphite. Oh well.

  • The nook is quite nice, better in my opinion

  • @uwmbigb The new nook has a black lit screen just like the ipad right? it's Not good for reading with background light or in the sunlight.

  • @texasinstrument82 Lit screen?

  • @uwmbigb Was trying to say back-lit screen

  • @texasinstrument82 I dont see a backlit screen on my version, perhaps mine is old.

  • @texasinstrument82 Ooo youre right that new one looks sick, Im still quite happy with my first gen one though

  • @uwmbigb Yes, I think you are better off with the first gen nook. The new version is more like an ipad. I just don't know if that would be easy on the eyes.

  • @texasinstrument82 Agreed, if i want web browsing and games distraction ill get an ipad, i use the nook purely for dedicated reading Idk about anyone else but simply that tis in black and white prevents me from using it for other things and I like that I stay focused on reading.

  • Its like a Ipad kinda

  • @JerkTubeTV

Not even close. the iPad is worthless as an e-reader.

  • free 3g?!!? :O

  • Place an order yesterday. While I liked the Kindle 2 I always thought the resolution was lacking and this one is much improved. Like the battery life and faster speed! From what I am reading this is well worth it. I agree, people should not compare to IPad because they are totally different in functions and abilities. With a Macbook (with 3g and Wi-fi) I personally have no need for an IPad even though I think they're cool machines.

  • i love this. cant wait. i love reading n that is my only when it comes to the kindle. i already have an ipod touch so am not compell to buy the ipad. n i heard it only cost 140 bucks. if that doesnt convince people to buy i dont know what will.

  • This is a total pos. Anyone ordering this should just send me their money, cuz you're throwing it away.

  • i really like it and its cheap only 189 for free 3g and wfi amazing deal great job amazon all it needs is a touch screen

  • I ordered my kindle last week and can't wait for it to get here. I have been browsing the free classics that are available and I'm truly glad that I am going to have access to such fine literature for free.

  • @Judimus2 not all books are free

  • @MultiOliver5 No but there are so many that are it will take me more than a lifetime to read them all. I prefer old books anyway.

  • the nook is better

  • @MultiOliver5 Yeah, that unresponsive shitty second screen and RUBBER backing is just to DIE FOR! /sarcasm

  • Woah. Is that a keyboard!!?? Wicked!!

  • I don't understand how can people compare this device to the iPad - personally I can't even imagine reading books on LCD display. Besides, it must be really distracting, knowing that you can do so many things on it, like browsing the internet or using apps and stuff, that all those things are under that book you're reading. When I read, I want to focus on reading and nothing else :).

  • He was just talking about the iPad why do you guys think he is talking about the kindle?

  • It has poor visibility in direct light

The battery life is too short.

  • @shanghaichica UImmm.. it has a 1 month charge life (continues read) and the new kindle works great in direct sunlight.

  • @cdnerds I was talking about the ipad. The new kindle sounds excellent.

  • @shanghaichica 1 month?!

  • It looks very good. The best looking kindle yet. I've ordered one.

The ipad is a nice enough device, even though my iphone does everything the ipad can do and more. I need something which is a good ereading device. Despite the fact that the ipad has many whistles and bells, it is not suitable for me.

It's too big to be portable or even to read comfortable for long stretches at home.

The backlit display does not make it comfortable to read for long periods of time

  • Or buy an ipad and get a million other features

  • @WeEatBrainz And pay at least twice as much, and not be able to read outside as well, and have your arms get tired from the weight, and have to charge more often, and have to pay a monthly bill for 3g access.

  • @andStack And store many many more books, watch movies and listen to music, typically i read on my lap and its still extremely light so u must have weak arms and the wifi version is fine for most. 3g requrires a fee because the amounts of data u can use

    download songs movies apps

endless possibilities vs a reader with a shitty browser

and about battery life... Typically people plug in when they go to sleep

well the ipad lasts 10 hours of video and many more for read all day.

  • @WeEatBrainz I don't have weak arms but if you read for a couple hours you will feel it. If wi-fi is just fine then you can pay $139 for a Kindle. The cheapest iPad is $500. Sure you can pay hundreds more dollars for your "endless possibilities" but I actually can do all of that stuff already without an iPad so I don't see why I'd pay $500 or more for it. However, $139-$189 for a light ereader that has all my books and is super portable and holds tons of books is worth it.

  • @andStack I dont feel it and typically i read laying down.

Holding something as thin as a magazine that can do everything (including magazines) is something i would prefer over a specialized device that only has one use. Especially if it costs over 100 bucks for merely one of the many many many functions of a far better product

  • @WeEatBrainz

Why would I buy iPad? I already have a laptop, a convertible one might I add. What's the point of getting iPad?

Kindle does one thing, but does it far better than iPad does. In the end, reading on Ipad is no different from reading on a laptop or monitor screen. I can live with that, but it fails to recreate the feeling of reading a printed book, while Kindle does recreate it perfectly. This is device for book lovers.

  • @WeEatBrainz Yes, butif you want to read, then the iPad is not the device to get. If you want a million other features, then sure, get an iPad. But as an e-reader, the iPad is worthless.

  • This is such a great thing....My blackberry storm with it's top rate e-reader is still all I need, though. I'm not saying I wouldn't want to have one of these. With the one month battery life and 30,0000 books stored feature along with it being under $200 I may be buying me one of these sometime soon.

  • cool device

  • i really cant understand why people compare an ereader with a slate....arethey brain dead or what???

  • I'm a little pissed at the timing of this release. My family bought me a Kindle 2 back when they were quite expensive, to give to me for my birthday. Then the price of those went down. And then mere weeks after my birthday, the 3 comes out. And you can get it in granite colour!

    /end rant

  • @oneeyedgeek It's not Amazon's job to release according to your birthday.

  • @andStack Really? Because I thought the whole Universe revolved around me. Damn, now I have to rethink everything.

  • I plan on buying one as soon as they are back in stock. This will be great for college textbooks and formula sheets in PDF form. I wish there was a cheap ereader with stylus input as well though.

  • You can on the internet w/the Kindle.

  • Why would any one buy this, the ipad blows this thing out of the water. This is like trying to decide between a telegraph and a telephone.

  • @theylied1776 I will tell you the reason. all around the ipad is a better product for multiple purposes; however, the Kindle or other e-reader has an e-link technology that allow to read book or magazines for a longer period of time without getting the eyes tired. Also try to read outside using your Ipad, difficult right? A heavy reader will pick a Kindle over the Ipad in a heart bit! you are wrong with your simile. It is like comparing notebooks with Ipads. some similar uses but no the same

  • @cesaramoga No, I was correct with my simile. I established generational progression; example ,Walkman to Ipod,Typewriter to Computer,or Newspaper to Radio to TV to Internet. By the way, a heavy reader would pick a real book in a heart beat over any alternative.

  • @theylied1776 A heavy reader will pick the e reader because the books online are cheaper, and very useful to download or get the book anytime, anywhere. Some people would select a physical book due to the smell or nostalgia. Your simile or analogy is still wrong. It would be paper book to e-reader or Ipad. no E-reader to Ipad. Summarizing a heavy reader will pick a REAL book or E-READER over an Ipad so...

  • @cesaramoga My simile is correct, the context is technology displacing technology.

first came the telegraph which was directly displaced or replaced by the telephone, the kindle was released 2 years ago and the Ipad last november.

I'm going by units sold and market share,it's only a mater of time before the kindle will go the way of the telegraph( obsolete )! If you like it,great! their are people that love typewriters but it can't come close to a multipurpose computer.

  • @theylied1776 I understand your opinion better my friend. It makes more sense to me now. I still think the kindle or nook will cohabit with the Ipad for a while. Time will tell the true. have a nice day (actually, I love Apple products)

  • @cesaramoga Thank you, your right, heavy readers will use the kindle because they don't need all the bells and whistles but there is a rumor the next gen might have a droid make over to compete with the Ipad?

  • @theylied1776 oh my........

  • @theylied1776 e-ink my friend e-ink

  • @sohaibmansoor Not that one, the one planned for 2012.

  • I have been a Kindle 1 owner for 3 years. I didn't shell out the money for Kindle 2/DX because of several gripes that I didn't believe were truly fixed. After ages of waiting its finally nice to see Amazon tackling the major ones for real this time (price point, better contrast, less obtrusive/noisy buttons, backed up books, wi-fi access, longer battery life, etc.). I may just take the plunge and get this new Kindle.

  • This is an e-reader. Nothing more. I really wish people would stop comparing it to the iPad. There's really no comparison to be had. They're completely different products for completely different purposes.

  • This is an e-reader. Nothing more. I really wish people would stop comparing it to the iPad. There's no real comparison to be had. They're completely different products for completely different purposes.

  • @jonwatson87 couldnt agree more..

  • @jonwatson87 TRUE!!!!

  • @jonwatson87 The reason they compare them is because they both do ebooks. The Kindle was pretty similarly priced (now waay cheaper). So for an extra $100 or so, why not get everything else the iPad does too? I believe the Kindle DX is still similarly priced to the iPad, and it's similar in size too. That's why they compare them. Kindle does books, and only books. Whereas iPad does books, movies, music, web, games, etc. There is a comparison to be had, they both do books, and were similarly price

  • @jonwatson87 the nook ereader does search online. You can google, hotmail, facebook ect

  • @jonwatson87 Thank you for explaining this.

  • @jonwatson87 So why did amazon compare it to the iPad on a tv ad?

  • Looks cool! I may actually get one this time around.

I have an iPhone already, so I'm used to poor battery life from multi-function devices. The one month battery life of the latest kindle is extremely appealing.

I'm an avid reader and always like a wide selection of reading material to choose from, depending on mood or interest etc.

Instead of taking two or three paperbacks with me everywhere (more if I'm on holiday) I can take an entire library!

This is an e-reader. Nothing more. I re

  • @salame462 :)

  • well I have an original sony ereader- I do quite like it becaue i use trains etc and i don't want to weigh by bag down with books. (plus im a student so would carry alot of books) however I think the prices of ebooks compared to paper books is rediculous which i think is a massive downside to ad ereader.

  • @salame462 you, sir, made my day.

  • Wow. I'm someone who is attuned to hearing electronics lasting only a couple hours; for example, laptops and cell phones. But hearing that this thing can last one month with wifi off was epic for me, haha. I would totally consider purchasing this, especially because of the low price tag and how useful it could prove to me as a college student.

  • @average220 You're right. If I was a geek like you I could have actually wasted my time looking up how many pages of paper a pine tree makes in order to make some stupid point against someone who was simply guessing. Too bad nobody gives a shit. Me:1 You: 0. Blow me. ;)

  • @salame462 lol if you go on vacation and only bring one book to read you're stuck with that book instead of having the freedom to change your mind. Not to mention e-books are cheaper than paper books. And you show your immatureness with your name calling.

  • funny that a year and a half ago the kindle 2 came out for 350usd and now you can get a K3 with wifi, 3g, better battery life, more storage for almost half the price. Early adopters got screwed.

  • @BishopDON ....as always, that's why I'm a late adopter.

  • @BishopDON Early adopters always get screwed with technology.

  • order now and get kamasutra ebooks for free

  • @salame462 good luck carrying 3500 books

  • That is so much better than the i pad. the I pad makes you have sleep apnea

  • @Annalizer77 it makes you stop breathing in your sleep?

  • amazon logo is kinda ugly...

  • Apple copied the Kindle.....

  • If the iPad had free 3G data plan (even capped at 20 Gb) it would probably kill the Kindle's market.

That said I pre-ordered the new graphite. It's light enough to read in bed one handed (something the iPad can not do) and will be a step up from my Kobo.

  • You have to be kidding me. For the price of the iPad I could build myself a nice computer!

The kindle costs a fraction of the iPad not to mention its more portable (as e-readers should be) the battery life is like 4 days and it amazon have a much bigger library than apple.

  • @darkstar3x16

Battery life is 1 month with 3g off and 10 days with 3g on. I want one.

  • @darkstar3x16 But you can get all of Amazons library on the iPad anyway with the Kindle app plus the iPad offers benefits that laptops/desktops cant always fulfil Oh and by the way its the Kindle DX that should be compared to the iPad not the standard one..

  • its just for reading so its just like tech book not ipad...

  • wait what would you use the 3g or wifi on? Just downloading books? Can it do anything else??

  • @omfgjohnstube

sure it has an experimental webkit browser now. It had a browser even before. You can use it to read some blogs and news sites, check wikipedia, and even your mail (it's a bit slow but gets the job done).

  • Looks like crap + iPad has much better display.
