  • While I'm German by birth I have always felt a strong affinity for the Scottish and love the heritage, pride and fierceness which makes me love my Saxon brothers! Scotland forever in my heart, if I weren't German I'd be Scottish!

  • @19631963fv, The Scots arent Saxon!, the Scots were called 'Picts' by the Romans (Pict was used to refer to the Scots by the Romans as it means 'the Painted people' in Latin in reference to how the Scots wore blue woad tattoo's in battle)

    The 'Saxons' were the Engilish

  • saludos a todos desde mexico

  • @MANUELTELLE Greetings to you in Mexico from Scotland :-)

  • this should have been the anthem for scotland, makes me feel proud even though i have i have lived in england since 1959 and served in H.M. forces this song just does it for me

  • 1706

  • Is there a difference between the Saltire and the yellow flag with with the rampant lion and what is it ?

  • Saltire

The national flag of Scotland, known as the Saltire or St. Andrew's Cross, dates (at least in legend) from the 9th century, and is thus the oldest national flag still in use. Since 1606 the Saltire has also formed part of the design of the Union Flag.

  • Lion Rampant

The Royal Standard of Scotland, also known as the Banner of the King of Scots, is the Scottish Royal Banner of Arms. Used historically by the King of Scots, the Royal Standard of Scotland differs from Scotland's national flag, the Saltire, in that its correct use is restricted by Parliament of Scotland to only a few Great Officers of State who officially represent the Sovereign in Scotland.

  • @glasgowbard Thanks for that. I'm a little less ignorant now !

  • No probs

  • @glasgowbard In addition to what you rightly stated, there is one Scottish regiment allowed to fly the Crown flag and that is The Royal Scots Dragoon Guards.

  • Flag info courtesy of wikipedia

  • @EnglishWulf One is the Saltire, which is the St. Andrews cross, he was crucified on such a cross in the middle east, Achaea if memory serves, apparently, which is the flag of the people of Scotland, The lion rampant, is the coat of arms of the Scottish Royal house, to the best of my knowledge at least.

  • it should be the anthem

  • This should be our national anthem, not as a dirge, but someone should do this, Sidney and pipes would do me, no-one knows it though, hampden would rock to this anthem!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I made a mistake yesterday. Sydney is appearing at The Pavilion, Glasgow from 12 November, NOT 12 October as I stated. Sorry fellow fans.

  • I first saw Sydney sing this last year at The Pavilion in Glasgow. He is appearing there this year starting from 12 October. I will be there again & I hope he ends the show with this wonderful, patriotic & very emotional song.
