  • This was one of my favorites from the early 50s. My Mom took me and my brother to see him play once. He used to jump up and down while playing his guitar and harmonica. Forty years later I worked with Lisa, one of his daughters, at WPAFB. Some of her brothers worked as agents in Nashville.

This song was written by Bascom Lunsford, who started out as a lawyer in NC. His original version was a bit more cerebral than this more popular one.

  • I've only heard the Grandpa Jones version before. This is cool!

  • He was also on WLW-T in Cincinnati in the middle 1950s - Midwestern Hayride. Cincinnati was a center for a lot of country acts prior to Nashville. Many recorded at Starday and King Records.

  • sing this song a lot when busking or just feeling like playing drinking songs with friends. i always hate singing "mountain dew" though because it feels so commercial. sometimes i just say "mountain brew" and hope the lines about distilling pull it all together.

  • @bikegeek6666 Mountain Dew (the poo) was originally markted at rural merkets in the 60s and 70s. It wasn't until later on that it was marketed at the extreme sports market. It was named after another name for moonshine.

  • I love this song!!

  • It's a 78 rpm record. Those haven't been made for about 50 years, since 33 rpm and 45 rpm records became popular.
