  • pitch. and diction. wah-ter. instead of waw-ter

  • I have to agree with MonkiiGirl. At competition they were much better. I don't know why they're so off in this version.

  • i remember hearing them do this at the district level competition, and i must say it was much better live and unplugged. i was mesmerized through the whole piece when i heard it.

  • this is so impressive for a high school choir. i have heard/seen/directed many different hs choirs, and most of them could never ever pull this song off, especially with such emotion and connection to the music. i LOVE the moving hands, you all are obviously very musical and are able to connect in that way. the notes are so precise, even if the pitch isn't 100% there, but that's not what this piece is about. you all should be proud of yourselves!

  • well at this point it doesn't matter if it was good or not because they still won state

  • am i the only who actually thought this sounded fine?

  • things can happen in a choir usually outside it i know this from experience .this group is generally wonderful .this was just their off day all groups have them

  • That hand thing just bugs the hell out of me...

I just can't get past it. But I'll try...

I'm in Purple-Aires (Ben Davis) and we did this song this year, and I'll admit I love the Counterpoints show choir, but I really think this was bad. Wiehe must've been off her game that day. She's still amazing, though.

  • ....what's going on with their hands?

  • I believe they are conducting themselves to get get the parts better .

  • Well then, that is the weirdest conducting pattern I've ever seen =P

  • i've personally spoken with their director about 'the hand thing' and i plan on using it when im a director.

  • HGGFord, you're an ignorant fool. This is clearly not a great performance of this piece. Watch the BYU singers version and you'll know why. It is far too tough for a high school ensemble to attempt... Counterpoints are one of the best HS concert choirs around, but even they don't have the maturity or sound to make these chords ring... Basically what i said about "O Fortuna"

  • you are a complete moron... Erik Whitacre himself has stated that his works are meant for HIGH SCHOOL aged singers, he thinks that it makes the song sound more pure than with a more "mature" sound.

I myself am a music educator and i saw a choir of FRESHMAN in england perform it better than BYU. (no offense to BYU of course i love them myself)

  • I wont go as far as GosfordAbercrombie and say it was bad, but this really wasnt one of the counterpoints best performances. Everything else I've seen them do has been amazing, but this is just off at parts.

  • soooooooooo bad!!!!!!

  • Yeah I know, its absolutely terrible! I can't stand them! But wait a second, remind me... whats wrong with it? I mean, it sounds good. Oh well, I'll keep listening for the 1-2 seconds that sound bad for whatever reason and then bitch about it.

  • "Oh well, I'll keep listening for the 1-2 seconds that sound bad for whatever reason and then bitch about it."

There's probably only 1-2 seconds that actually sound GOOD!!!!

  • I'm sorry that you do not enjoy music. What a horrid existence that must be.

  • I enjoy good music!!! Thanks for trying!!!!

  • What's terrible, is that from the first entrance, until the out of balance first statement at 1:20, the altos were hovering about 10 cents above or below their pitches.. The basses are completely inaudible during EVERY major moment of the piece. The sopranos Tend to push sharp, which only makes the altos sound MORE off pitch. As was said below the GFlat during the 14 part section was no where to be found. ALL AROUND, the blend was Sop/Ten heavy... Just too difficult for high school

  • @pianoman012688 I've heard a few select high schools perform this piece, it just so happens that this high school performance was off...a lot off.

  • @pianoman012688 FIRST OF ALL THIS PIECE IS NOT TOOOOOO DIFFICULT FOR HIGH SCHOOLERS! IVE HEARD HIGH SCHOOLERS SANG THIS SONG TO PERFECTION AND SOME ARE LIKE..WELL, THIS PERFORMANCE IS DIFINITELY BAD I WOULDNT SAY HORRIBLE FOR OUT RESPECT THAT THEY ATTEMPED IT GOOD JOB LOL BUT I WILL POST SOME VIDEO FOR YOU ABOUT OTHERS THAT WERE SANG PRETTY DECENT! NMMEA All State Mixed choir2004 sang this-it wasnt perfect but it was good..the TMEA sang this pretty well and another choir from TX too ill post

  • I'm glad you've been able to find enjoyment through ignorance. I wouldn't want to ruin that for you.

  • what the heck are they doing with their hands??

  • you can't hear the bass G flat on 14 part eyes. But still beautiful.

  • that's youtube sound quality for you. As soon as the treble levels become loud enough, almost all bass levels are drowned out.

  • The altos went flat

  • Reminds me of Lord of the Rings. No idea why.

  • mmmmmm soo good
