It warms my heart to see the top comment speaking of tolerance and scrolling down to see idiots completely ignore the sage advice. Keep it up internet!
Also fuck most of you, just buy the damn bag if you want it. And if you don't then good on you mate, you saved yourself 500 bucks, don't attach your own bullshit to it, we don't want to hear it.
You people whining about a little pamphlet with an awesome product really do make me ashamed to be Atheist. Atheism isn't an organised body, it's simply a lack of belief, a studied indifference. You people are the sort of iconoclasts who would burn books and bulldoze churches because they "offended" you. If you had enough money - which I think is the real issue here - and you were remotely enlightened - which I'm sure you would say that you are - you'd buy the bag. Grow up. We don't need you.
I just received one of the Saddleback Leather bags today and it's pretty awesome. It didn't come with any religious pamphlet or anything like that.
I'm an atheist, and it would have bothered me to get propaganda with my bag, so I'm glad to see they've chilled out on that. I think it would be hypocritically prejudicial to not purchase a great product because you don't like the CEO's religion. As long as the business and religion aspects are separate, I don't see a problem.
I wasinterested in your products and then I saw this and other videos. What are you trying to demonstrate to the consumer here? That you are an Imperialist going out to use "interesting", "ethnic" Masai people to make your product more marketable?I grew up in Africa and I find this kind of crass marketing stupid, inane and offensive. Let the product sell itself. You dont need to have Rastas, Massai and your "Hot Wife" ( If my husband DARE call me that!!) do it for you
Why are we talking about religion here? If someone makes awesome leather products with an awesome warranty, do I care if they're muslim or christian or an atheist? No, I just care about the sweet backpack.
As a nonbeliever, I viewed the booklet with suspicion. So I called saddleback and asked them about the messaging. They gave me a list of the charities they donate to. I checked them out. Each one is doing great things for poor people. Some Christians actually try follow Christ's example; buy from saddleback with a clean conscience my atheist friends. These are good people. And anti-christian bigotry is still bigotry. Grow up and recognize. Sincerely, your friendly neighborhood agnostic.
@321554221 well, you say you are a nonbeliever, yet you refer to the example set by christ. What example? there is no direct evidence that the christ of the bible even existed. so the "goodness" may as well be compared to batman,s philanthropy, since we all know he does not exist either. and where do you think the money for the charity comes from? does saddleback print those booklets for free? of course the cost of the booklet is passed on to the customer. so the charity is at your expense.
@zamriash First, I checked out the charities and they're great. I don't care if I'm paying for them when I buy the product. Better that putting it in the hands of some CEO.
Second, I don't care if Christ is real or not. The morality he espouses in the big book is pretty much spot on. If you want to try to confuse that with the choices of SOME of the people who follow in his name, feel free. But you're still a bigot. Sincerely, your friendly neighborhood agnostic.
@321554221 "Now kill all the boys. And kill every woman who has slept with a man, but save for yourself every girl who has never slept with a man." (Numbers 31:17-18)
"The Lord commands: "... slay old men outright, young men and maidens, little children and women" (Ezechial 9:4-6)
"put to the sword all the males .... As for the women, the children, the livestock and everything else in the city, you may take these as plunder for yourselves." (Deuteronomy 20:13-14)
@321554221 I can go on with the verses, but im sure u # with the bible under your pillow every night, you can read it for yourself. Then again, ur choice of words is quite peculiar; a true agnostic will never refer to the bible as the "big book", or even refer 2 the "morality" of christ; there is no such thing. so, it's really easy for any sane person reading this page 2 decide which one of us is the bigot here. Agnostics will typically not refer 2 a "conscience" either. there is no such thing
@zamriash You could go on with the verses. You could also quote Old Testament sources as a reference for Christ's New Testament morality. That should demonstrate your ignorance of the subjects you purport to understand, but the irony of it won't be lost on anyone but you.
As a true agnostic, I will, in good conscience, call the big book any fucking thing I damn well please, and you'll have to sit there and deal with it, you cheap little sophist you.
@321554221 Well, I dont have to deal with it, it does not affect me, it just displays your stupidity to refer to the bible as the big book, even though you claim to be an agnostic. Also, you dont seem to understand the meaning of certain english words very well. You use the word "irony" wrongly here. Do you mean to suggest that the old testament is somehow not applicable when it comes to your gods morality? So is it that more than 50% of the book written by your lord god is obsolete
@321554221 In addition, are you suggesting that only the half of the book that you, a non believer, suggest is appropriate, should be considered while determining the morality of the god you yourself dont believe in? Well, if english is not your first language, you should be careful using terms you aren't sure about.
@zamriash ...You need to get a life...you came on here six months ago and are still banging your drum about this. We get it you don't want to buy the bag because you don't like religion.
You come off pretty hypocritical arguing with others and asserting your view as the only correct one while trying to convert others. Is there not better causes you could be dedicating your time towards?
Great looking bags, just found out about them...hard part is deciding which one to buy first.
@G50Mrvl Is there any rule on youtube that you cant come back to a comment you posted 6 months ago? And I am not asserting anything to anyone. I am just pointing out the facts. I also cannot want to "convert" someone, as i dont belong to any religion. As for my getting a life, I assure you, I am not here on this page at all times. Whenever I get an email indicating a reply to my comment, i check it. And it really does not matter if you get it or not, I will reply whenever I feel like it.
Why is there a fuss about the booklet? People wouldn't have this righteous indignation if they knew In 'N Out, one of the best burger chains in America, had prayers on the bottom of their wrapping paper. The smell of a rose does not contribute to its overall beauty, but no one cannot really appreciate a rose without putting your face against it and taking a whiff.
It's funny how christians never see how offensive proselytizing is to some people. It's an implicit disparagement of a persons faith and that's a good way to ruffle feathers.
However, that's not going to stop me from ordering. Assuming I ever come up with the money, can I special order without additional documents? :-)
I bought a package of beef jerky yesterday and there was a little silicon packet in there. But just because it was in there, I didn't eat it. I threw it out. When I eat fish, I don't feel compelled to eat the bones too. Imagine if I only partook of things that had nothing in them that offended me. I wouldn't read any books because I would disagree with something. A life of intolerance is a sad life of deprivation. You'll miss out on a lot of things in life. Eat the fish and spit out the bones.
@saddlebackLeather I believe a distinction is necessary. The silicon packet was in the beef jerky to keep out the moisture and therefore increase its shelf life. bones occur naturally in fish. however, ur christian booklet has nothing to do with the quality, purpose, construction, care or use of your bag. it is utterly useless and purposeless when sent with the bag. it is this choice of urs that i find repulsive. thats why you get no business from me. i love the fish, i hate the sides.
nice backpack. I really loved the design when i first looked it up. also love the briefcase backpack. i was about to purchase one of each when i read a review about you sending some christian booklet with your bags. now thats a strict no no. its one thing to make a great product, quite another to slyly push your religion with it. i ended up buying none of your products, in fact, i decided i wanted to make my own leather backpack, customized to my needs. it took me 6 months.
@zamriash Thanks for the heads up. I was considering purchasing one of these backpacks, but I'm not going to encourage someone to push some agenda, especially a religion.
@nhcrank your most welcome. may i suggest you making your own leather backpack customized to your needs? i made one that took me 6 months to build, costs a little less than $200. if you want, i could give you some tips.
Nice! Hopefully you did a bunch of commercials around the globe with your goods. Good advertising! Just one question...why didn't we see you with an apple on your head with your back to the tree so they could peg that sucker with you sitting there smiling? Now that would have been good!
